It's been a little over a year since my friend & poetry teacher died. Mr. Amil David Quayle. I was fortunate to be able to visit his favorite spot to take me, Upper Mesa Falls. I was lucky to have a local, Betty VanNewkirk, to take me. Amil would always whisk me & whatever companion was with me, off to local areas in Eastern Idaho. Kilgore, the Sand Dunes, Cave Falls, Upper & Lower Mesa Falls, the mouth of the Salmon River. We also visited Yellowstone and Red Lodge, Montana over 20 years ago, just us. It was just before the Sturgis biker rally & we had a wild time. It deserves a short story, that trip. The pics are from his house in St. Anthony, he grew up with his brothers & sisters in that house & transformed it into a beautiful Amil jewel. You are encrusted in the memory of many, Amil! May we remember you with joy & perseverance for truth and justice. What am I grateful for? I'm grateful for THE FEET ARE UP. I spent all day doing stuff for the fundraiser and cleaning out my bathroom after moving our rescue litter to a bigger, more cat proof room downstairs. Rosie & I say hi. She came to us with eyes sealed shut by infection. She still has the sniffles, but she is doing so much better due to antibiotics, humidifiers, and some good food and care. This is malcolm. He is teeny. His mom abandoned him after a dog upset his nest. He is about five days old, and today, began suckling like a champ. We are trying to help cut down the stray cat population in our little town. Our local shelter closed after 18 years of serving our area. We do not have a shelter or a group serving in our town right now. Many in our town, St. Anthony Idaho, which has a population of teachers, farmers, small local business owners, people who provide service at the three detentional facilities and migrant workers. In the last three days people have brought us two litters of kittens. There will be soooo many more kittens that will come to us, and even more that are born & will not come to us, and suffer death from exposure, or hunger, or accident, or euthanization at the hands of those who have animals swarming their properties that they do not own and cannot afford to care for. We have started a GoFundMe. We need financial help so that we can fix and release the strays. We need financial help so that we can fix, vaccinate and adopt out these kittens that are coming in.
