Silmarillion Fandom Terminology Quiz
So, I'm doing a project for linguistics class and I'm studying fandom terminology in the Silmarillion fandom and whether or not demographics make a difference. The only demographics are age category, gender, continent, language background, and fandom background, after which you get into more fun questions, including but not limited to...
What is a Blorbo?
The Thorn Debate
What is "Accidental Baby Acquisition"?
Who is Crablor
What is a "PWP"
The quiz has three sections: Demographics, General Fandom Terms, and Silmarillion Specific Terms. Have fun with it, share it with your Silm friends!

Finarfin: Your polls are slipping, boyo. I’d suggest you better get with it.
Manwë: Being King of Arda isn't an elected position. I don't have to respond to polls.
Fingolfin: Not elected? You mean you can govern with dictatorial impunity?
Manwë: Exactly.
Fëanor: In short, open revolt and exile is the only hope for change.
Manwë: I don't like the direction this conversation is going.

My Headcanon Crafts for Finwe and his Children
Finwe: a woodcarver, he likes really intricate geometric patterns. Carved most of the furniture in his house. Occasionally experiments with larger statue work. One of his favorites is a large bear; which he made for Orome's halls. He also carved cribs for each of his kids.
Feanor: a smith. One of the things that makes him special is that he's one of a few elvish smiths who can actually make gemstones. For all that later generations will remember him for his swords and Silmarils, most of his work was in fine jewelry and more modest Feanorian gemstone lamps.
Findis: a writer, and a very good one, but most of her work remains unpublished. She can be just as possessive of her secrets as Feanor, and for elves, words absolutely have power. There's a mountain of paper in her home, and she doesn't really know what to do with it.
Fingolfin: a glass worker, who specializes in stained-glass windows. The things he creates are beautiful, especially with the light filtering through them, but they're also fragile. Some of his favorite works are Feanorian lamp gemstones he surrounded with a mosaic of colored glass. (They're some of Feanor's favorites too, but both of them would rather die than admit it)
Lalwen: a cartographer. She traveled almost every inch of Beleriand, and her maps are still some of the best remnants of the sunken continent in the Third Age. Always drew sea monsters on her maps as a matter of principle.
Finarfin: a baker. It's very nontraditional for a Noldor craft– it's more typical of the Vanyar, but he insists that food can be art as much as anything else. He measures everything out by feel, and it tastes great every time. His kids all have fond memories of baking crepes with him.

My Headcanon Crafts for the House of Feanor:
Nerdanel: a sculptor; about the best in all of Valinor. Many of her early sculptures were praised, but also seen as a bit strange because they looked so real, but no one could identify any model they'd been based off of. Later, it would be recognized that she'd sculpted several of her own children, long before they were born.
Maedhros: an actor. Back in Valinor, he often played romantic leads in comedies and tragedies alike. He was very dramatic back in the years of trees, but got more subdued in Middle-Earth for... obvious reasons. A few of the posters for plays he was in made their way to Middle-Earth and got passed around Himring like contraband.
Maglor: a bard. While he often composed his own songs, he was also one of those charged with memorizing the old oral history of the Quendi– the elven equivalent of like, being able to memorize and recite the Iliad. Much of this early Elvish history was almost lost by the end of the First Age, and Maglor attempted to preserve it by writing it down. Eventually, those books ended up saved in Rivendell's library.
Celegorm: a hunter in Orome's train. Was famous for his ability to hit quickly moving targets through the thick forests of Valinor, even when mounted. He also enjoyed making various things out of the pelts, teeth, claws, and antlers of his kills. He's made very nice fur coats for several of his siblings and cousins.
Caranthir: a fiber artist; mostly focusing on weaving and embroidery. He's not sure whether to feel flattered or vaguely worried by all the Miriel comparisons. He insisted on making most of his family's formal clothing because all of Feanor's kids can get at least a little craft-related hubris. As a treat.
Curufin: a smith. His father was most famous for his jewelry, but Curufin would come to be known mostly for his weapons. They were so reliable that many of them lasted until the Third Age. There are rumors he poured some of his soul into the weapons he made for his brothers. But those are only rumors.
Amras & Amrod: painters. They specialized in incredibly detailed landscape paintings. I say "they" because all their works were done together; Amrod would make the sketch and darker linework and Amras would add the colors and shading. Their work was often very nostalgic and peaceful, with bright watercolors and gentle shadows.
Bonus! Feanor saved a lot of his kids' work from when they were really young and just starting their crafts. It's all what you'd expect from a small child's art, but Feanor still acts like they're masterpieces. His kids all think it's super embarrassing but he's really proud of them.
Headcanons for Finwe and his Children, the House of Fingolfin, the House of Finarfin, and the rest of the House of Finwe. Thanks for asking about Finwe's grandkids @hyperlexia-1 :)

Celegorm, detail
После смерти Магнуса я совершенно опустошена. Хочу спать круглые сутки и ни на чем не могу сосредоточиться. Попытки отвлечься рисованием в основном бесплодны, да и новых идей нет, только раскрашивать уже нарисованное и остается...

Tags to treasure
I always see these posts about Maedhros and Elwing, like yes both leap to their deaths clutching a Silmaril and I adore the foil allegories, but what of Maglor??
My tiktok feed has been playing that one fan Odysseus song, the "get in the water, or ill raise the tides so high all of Ithaca will die" song, and I cant help but just picture Maglor, at the ends of his rope, covered in Ambarussa's blood, the youngest son of Feanor again after spending an untold amount of time being the second oldest, just going still and deadly at Elwing
Hes no Luthien, no half Maia that can pluck at the threads of reality like one can a harp, but he is the best Singer of the Noldor, and depending on who you ask, of all of the First Born. One of the only Sons of Feanor with an affinity for water while the rest burn, but that doesn't mean he can't become a rolling boil.
Once the final breath of Ambarussa escapes their lungs, oh the Scream Maglor will have let go. Just as a drowning person will grasp at anything to keep them afloat, even to the point where they may drown their rescuer just to keep their head above the waves, Maglor’s scream PULLS
All the water surrounding this costal city would Lurch, would rush and flood and crash upon the city walls. The streets, already run red with blood, would become knee deep blood pools. These red rivers would part before him and his echoing dirge, his siren wailing, the bloody waves would lap at his feet with every step he would take up Elwing's tower.
He would corner her, eyes blazing with the same light that she clutches desperately to her chest, to her heart, and Maglor wouldn't care about the Jewel, he's already lost so much to it that if he held it himself he would just toss it into the waves anyways, let it sink to the black depths where it belongs.
No, Maglor would pin her on the balcony, block her exits so all she can see is the blood stained water seeping around his feet, inching towards her, and the furious roar and crash of the raging ocean behind. He would hum, a disarming little song, and the waves seem to surge upwards, reaching towards the tower balcony on beat. The spray of the waves would splatter across her back, would mist Maglor’s face, the salt of the ocean mixing with the salt of his tear stained face. He would look at her, dripping in water and blood, both of his brothers and his enemies, and he would sing one little line, a command more like.
"Get in the water"

📓!
Maedhros dies (kinda suspiciously) in Valinor, and heart broken, his parents design and create an automaton in his likeness. Hoping to give it life back, fenaor makes the Silmarils (this time the special ingredient isn't feanor's fea, its the little bits of Maedhros' fea that was worked into some of the tapestries he made)
The automaton looks like Maedhros, acts like him, and is so life like thanks to Nerdanel's prowess that many forget that it isn't him, but for all that light of the trees seems to shine out of him, he's still cold and hard to touch.
When the lights go out, and the Silmarils are demanded, all the Noldor revolt. Not only is their king dead, but now they ask for their prince too?? But when they look for Mae, he's gone, taken by Morgoth
Mae still gets rescued by Fingon, but only has one Silmaril in his chest instead of three, and because of that he's slowly degrading, dying until he can have all three again. Cold doesn't impact his body, but heat does, so he stays in Himring
The Sindar have no idea why the Noldor, especially the Feanorians want the Silmarils so badly, so they piece together what they know and come up with a different answer, which isn't correct. But by the time the Kinslayings happen again, the Sindar only see Mae as a monster, some type of creature made and tainted by Morgoth because he is in such disarray. The one Silmarils cant keep back the rust and the tarnishing and joints and gears have to be replaced so often now, and with Curufin’s death, Mae is a horror.
He wants to die by the end, he curses his father and mother for ever bringing him back, for trapping him in this metal tin that he can't escape from no matter how badly he's damaged. All his loved ones died, will be reborn in Valinor and live new lives without him and he'll be rusting, forgotten in a crevice. So he goes a little crazy, goes a little monstrous at Elwing, tries to distance himself from the Twins even though they are so curious about their metal kidnapper. Goes a little crazy again and finally FINALLY has the Silmarils back in his grasp.
But its just the one, the third is out of reach, twinkling in the sky and Maedhros GRIEVES, knowing his doomed to this immortal half life. He gives the one they stole to Maglor, and as his brother burns and tosses the damned thing in thr ocean in a fit of blinding pain and instincts, then he realizes what he's done, he's doomed his brother forever.
Maglor WEEPS and throws himself into the waves trying to reach the damned rock, but the waves spit him back out. Making a noise that is not so much a scream, but an animalistic sound of fury and grief, he turns around to beg forgiveness but his eldest brother is gone. Maglor continues to make rhat horrible noise as he hunts down his decrepit brother, once he finds him, he almost follows him down into the lava something fey snd wild in his eyes as he watches Maedhros melt into nothingness
