I’m imagining the Silmarillion being told entirely in epistolary format. Letters. Diary entries. Reports from scouting parties. Supply lists from Doriath. Copies of Caranthir’s tax records. Research papers. Poetry. Songs. Field guide pages with drawings of creatures and plants. Recipes. Drawings of fashion designs, or sketches of jewelry, armor. Blueprints of Gondolin. Maps. Star charts.
And it’s all been compiled by Elrond.

I have a question ...who were Maeglins friends ? Lord wise , cause in some fics all the other lords are friendly to him but none would consider him a close friend nor would he consider any of them close . So who do you think are edgelords friends?
I turned this into a history lesson, sorry >.<
Canonically speaking, his only friend was Lord Salgant who became fond of the young Lord and Prince upon his entry to court. When Turgon introduced Maeglin as his successor and a member of the twelve Lords of Gondolin, Salgant proposed himself as a close friend to Maeglin. Furthermore, it was also stated that he was loved by the people of his house and they were loyal to him. There was no hatred or disdain between him and others (aside from Idril).
Apart from Salgant, I cannot say if the others Lords were extremely close with him. They were all Lords which meant cooperation was necessary, so Maeglin was surely able to interact on friendly terms with them. Perhaps not as friendly as his friendship with Salgant or the friendship between Glorfindel and Ecthelion.
Non-canonically speaking, the fandom has perpetuated a narrative which projects a more realistic and psychological approach to Maeglin's life in Gondolin, using his past as the foundation. Starting from his isolation from the Noldrin society and a heavy Avarin upbringing which his father installed, to witnessing the death of his mother and persecution of him by the hands of his father, these were all situations used to create the Maeglin that many have come to know. It was also once stated that he had orish blood in his veins, another reason for why people assumed he was disliked.
This can supposedly be a reason for him not wishing to be friendly with the others; a lack of trust, refusing to believe the Lords truly welcomed and accepted someone of Avarin descent after hearing how different his people were from the Noldor and would be treated, and with the whole welcoming Tuor situation. Lots of Lords were fond of Tuor while Maeglin disliked him.
Overall, reading fics where the friendship between him and other Lords are different, depends on the narrative the writer decides to follow. Most of us use fanon since it allows for a wider range of scenarios, hence why you'll see Maeglin mostly depicted introverted and an outcast.

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.
My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813
*electric guitar riff*
And then rocked up to Imladris a hundred ten days later like
#lotr#lord of the rings#boromir#aragorn#legolas#gimli#merry#pippin#this post was a rollercoast#amazing from beginning to end
