I seriously love All Might from Boku no Hero Academia precisely because he's based on the Superman archetype, but whenever I read someone saying "All Might is Superman done right", I cringe.
For all his iconic status, Superman is one of the most misunderstood characters in all of comic books because he's so famous that people feel entitled to talk about him without even reading his comics.
Superman done right is Superman done right.

I admit I'm a bit dissapointed because from whatever interview Kohei Horikoshi gives and by the looks of his room, it seems he only likes Marvel. The only DC stuff he has is from the Dark Knight trilogy. I understand Marvel became way more popular with this generation thanks to the movies while DC has fallen way behind, but as a DC fan that stills breaks my heart a bit.

@sosei I’m not the one who is saying that, but pretty much all women I’ve encountered don’t like him. Most people who like him are men. So naturally I started to really wonder if it has something to do with him not having appeal to women for some reason or if there really are female fans of him.

Do women like Shirou at all or do all of them dislike him?
Just wanted to know.

You guys know that in the original Japanese dub Goku fights mainly because he wants to be stronger, right? The “Superman-like” Goku was created in the American dub. Granted, DBS took this to a ridiculous extreme and made Goku basically stupid.

DBZ Goku vs. DBS Goku In short, DBS Goku is nothing but a greedy, selfish, dumbed down shell of the awesome hero that I revered, during my childhood.

I’m not really sure about the Kenshin sequel
I feel conflicted, Rurouni Kenshin is one of my favorite manga of all time, and I’d be lying if I said I’m not excited to see the characters once more, but RK’s story ended perfectly and beautifully with Kenshin riding into the sunset with a family and passing down the baton to a new generation and I’m not sure a sequel could add something that is worth telling. If Watsuki wanted to do the Hokkaido arc he should have done it after Jinchuu like originally planned, when Kenshin could still use the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu. I find quite hard to believe in a manga called Rurouni Kenshin we aren’t going to get at least one fight with the title character. And he’s already pushing inconsistencies in Ashitaro Zenka Ari when Kenshin used the Ryushousen. Granted, it’s just a basic Hiten move, but they made it very clear in the last chapter of the manga that the Hiten was completely unusable already.

Long ago, we looked upon a foreboding sky. The memory of the star that threatened all burns eternal in our hearts. In its wake came an age of silence. Yet with each fond remembrance, we knew those encountered were not forgotten, that some day we would see them again. Perhaps it was no more than wishful thinking. But after the long calm, there are the beginnings of a stir. The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings. For they are coming back. At last the promise has been made.

I was just checking out my tumblr archive and in march of 2014 I saw that I reblogged a post from you and it was about you wanting a romantic relationship in your youth, so it made me curious... did it happen? Have you had what you wanted?
Sadly no, it didn’t.

I don’t agree with the execution being awful, it seems that the VN gets a lot of undeserved flack lately, but this is a great post.

Remember this? I think this line also brings it up fairly well. Bringing salvation to someone (as the one Shirou received from Kiritsugu) isn’t the same as save everyone/become ally of justice, the ideals he pursues. In Unlimited Blade Works, Shirou isn’t pursuing happiness or salvation, but the satisfaction to see this ideal fulfilled as part of his childhood dream (Heaven’s Feel, will be the opposite choice). Now with that aside, let’s take a look to what the heroines think of those ideals and how they impact in general of the role.
Sakura and Rin, as their routes, play as contrast. Rin is critical of the ideal and the path Shirou leads there; she knows how it ends and she knows it sucks and actually thinks Archer’s right in complaining and regret. Her route is, ironically, the one Shirou embraces ideals over salvation, it’s someone like her who doesn’t buy on his ideal, even if she sometimes acts to humor and support it, what may keep him from getting a complete bad end. We don’t know what kind of end that’ll be. The ending is ambiguous in everything but the certainty Shirou will follow his path.
On the other hand, we have Sakura, a girl who adores and admires his ideals, who would have played his eager sidekick if she had a chance. She considers that lifestyle Shirou leads, unlike Rin, admirable and beautiful and would never want to change it (now Rin sees Shirou as admirable too but she doesn’t want him to end up that way and she wishes he would think on himself in UBW). Rin cries because he confirms his resolve to her after Illya’s death, Sakura cries because Shirou tosses his ideals of being an ally of justice to choose to bring salvation to someone: Sakura herself. She has a conflict of interest, overjoyed as she is, she mourns and even tries suicidal actions over grieving this sacrifice Shirou makes for her. Shirou who has chosen not this “justice” of saving everyone but the happiness of protecting the smile of his loved ones will need someone like Sakura who, because he probably lost the memories of Saber and Kiritsugu (we do see the moonlight memory shatter, didn’t we?) will remind him of that inspiring ideal in the bliss of mundane and domestic happiness they achieved. Because Sakura admired that ideal and loved it.
Rin and Sakura didn’t get exactly what they wanted in the beginning, but they were what Shirou would need in the way the route played (Note this isn’t white/black, there are times Rin encourages Shirou’s heroism while Sakura prefers he stayed safe, but in general, I am analysing the big picture. Rin had a desperate breakdown because Shirou would cling to that path vs Sakura who had a breakdown for the opposite reason). I think they were happy in those endings, regardless.
What about Saber? Saber is the heroine who shares those ideals and lived them. If Sakura admires his path and Rin criticizes it, Saber understands the pains and the fruits of that path (she could have been easily a mentor figure, but not in this format). She wanted to protect everyone and preserve the smiling faces but it never happened and, like Archer, she regretted the bleak hill that awaited for her. If Sakura and Rin are to provide a support with their presence, Saber is there to set an example, like Kiritsugu, in this aspect. She cannot stay because, like he has his path, hers is just as important, their fates intercepted briefly and then they separated again. Shirou in Fate doesn’t need to choose salvation for one or save everyone, he accomplishes both by bonding with Saber, the “king of ideals” and the girl who was drowning in regrets. He gave her salvation, and thus gave himself salvation, and he went on the path she also proudly marched on, looking at the stars. Their reunion happens once they finish their duties. Because that’s what Shirou needed there. He didn’t need Saber to stay (he wanted to, tho). He needed her example and the hope one day he would reach that shining star. Saber had her own ideals too, she gave her Master what he needed and obtained peace of mind to finish what she started, harboring the hope of meeting again after a long wait.
Each heroine plays a role that befit the storytelling of the route, the execution could downright awful sometimes, but it works with each of their peculiarities and it’s up to us to decide what we prefer as outcome. But I wanted to address something that is almost always overlooked: the heroine relationship not with Shirou as person but with his ideals and the way they can perceive the path he will lead; and what this could mean in the outcome of their routes.

As a massive DC fan, it saddens me to admit that DC will always be number 2 to Marvel, for a variety of reasons.
