Minor Yellowjackets spoilers for S03E07
I was just thinking about how, way back in s01e02 when Van was stuck in that plane seat. It was getting precarious so Jackie chose to save Shauna by letting Van die, but then Van didn't and she never forgave Jackie for it not even when Jackie did almost risk her life with the smaller plane.
And now Van is dying with cancer, and (Other) Tai wants to kill people to save Van. Tai is (kind of) doing what Jackie had done all those years ago that Van never forgave her for.

my random yellowjackets fancasts
Adult Laura Lee - Sarah Chalke (I saw fancasts of Dianna Agron...they do have a resemblance. I just dont agree)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adult Mari Ibarra - Jessica Matten
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adult Gen - Liza Lapira (based on Mya Lowe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adult Javi Martinez - Oscar Isaac (I genuinely think they have some resemblance, specifically with Steven Grant from Moon Knight)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teen & Adult Rachel Goldman - Sarah Pidgeon & Kim Rhodes (died in the initial crash, for shits and giggles and just an excuse to add Sarah Pidgeon)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Baby Shipman - Milo Manheim (rn anyway, it changes. presuming he lived to 2021, he'd be around 24)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deleted characters Yumi Heineken - Keiani Mabe (from the original 70s pitch) and Molly Shipman/Sadecki - Emily Rudd (originally Callie's older sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(some are saying that molly might've been the original wilderness baby but idk/also this pic of emily rudd reminds me of when they were coming back from the lake and shauna's hair was all wet)
The only ones I don't have so far are Akilah, Crystal, Britt and Robin. I'm pretty sure that Hilary Swank is playing Adult Melissa, though as of posting this right now that hasn't been confirmed yet.
HONORABLE MENTION
Adult Jackie Taylor - Robin Tunney (I didn't originate this one but I wholeheartedly agree. There's an entire twitter thread just proving that.)

One of my least favourite things about the Yellowjackets fandom is how the fans seperate between the ‘fucked up acts’ that they find palatable and the ‘fucked up acts’ they think is ‘too far’. It’s alright for the Yellowjackets to murder and eat each other but bringing up the fact they sexually assaulted Travis is too far.
And when a character goes ‘too far’ in a way fans can no longer brush off (like some fans about Lottie with Callie), they instead do a 180 and completely condemn the character as a ‘special evil’, as if Yellowjackets hasn’t always been a show where the characters have done terrible things that can’t be sugarcoat no matter how much fans try.
Fans also like to brush off or simplify the characters’ actions, like Lottie being a cult leader or Shauna as an abusive parent, when just like the murder and cannibalism, these are things that make these characters more interesting and real, challenging the audience and cause them to critically think. It’s possible to engage with these themes and criticise the characters whilst also loving and sympathising with them and is how fans should engage with the show.

Spoilers from S03E05 of Yellowjackets and onwards
You know how the creators mentioned that whoever drew the cards it was going to come back to them. Like Nat drew the Queen of Hearts in the teen timeline, but she didn't die but she does die later in the adult timeline.
So, look at the teen timeline again. Tai gets the King of Hearts. It's nicknames the suicide card, but it serves as executioner. Only she never got to kill Ben. What if Tai ends up killing someone in the adult timeline as part of the unfulfilled card draw? I just have this gut feeling that Tai (or rather Other Tai) had something to do with Lottie's death.
I thought about it since Episode 4 when (Other) Tai was fucking around with the playing cards but I don't necessarily think this is what happened. Someone picked up the card of their own free will, but they eventually stopped tailing him. They're all in New York, right? I just felt like, at some point, Lottie accidentally got the card, and that's related to her death.

Spoilers for S03E06 of Yellowjackets
Whatever you do, don't think about how Ben's death is the first death directly in the hands of someone.
Laura Lee died in the plane explosion.
Jackie died of hypothermia.
Misty was involved with Crystal's death, but it wasn't intentional. She fell off the cliff.
Same with Javi, he fell in the water and drowned. No one directly killed him. He just wasn't saved.
It was always an indirect death UNTIL Ben.
And THEN they ate him. Because they wanted to.

Shauna Shipman as a character just wants to be loved but can't love anyone in return (her husband, her daughter, her love interests) because the two people she loved the most (Jackie and her son) died. Love now is absence. It is pain. It is grief.
She resorts to anger and violence because anger is an easier emotion to deal with than sadness and grief. She acts like a psychopath (someone manipulative, remorseless and unsympathetic) because she feels everything. It's easier to shut those down than confront them.
Grief, that I have lately seen expressed by other people, comes from loving someone who can no longer feel that love. You can grieve someone alive when you realize you can't love them the way you want to and in a lot of ways Shauna had been grieving for a while. Grieving then buries you under what-ifs and could-have-beens. A friendship that ended prematurely in death and a baby that never got to live are the biggest what-ifs.

This is the root of Shauna's anger toward Ben. In her eyes, he is yet another reason why she had to hold her dead baby in her arms. I know it may feel easy to vilify Shauna this season but underneath everything she does is so much pain. She blames herself for the death of her baby (even though, of course, it was not at all her fault). That guilt is too heavy to bear alone. She has to push it outward, to find someone else to blame, to redirect that grief into rage, because the alternative is drowning in it.

God, they were always meant to fall apart. It just so happened to have ended in death.
Though, and this is a side note, I'd like to think that a small change like the compliment thing would have had a ripple effect that at least stopped Shauna from fucking Jeff that night. Why? Idk. It's just complete wishful thinking and copium on my part.
Sometimes, I wonder. If Jackie had given Shauna a genuine comment back in Episode 1, what would she have said?
And would it have changed anything? (Validating Shauna as her own person, not as an entity that exists with Jackie)

Yeah, so sorry. The genuine part was poor wording here, I meant heartfelt, not that Jackie was lying. And I absolutely agree that to Jackie that would have been the biggest compliment because all she wanted was to be important to Shauna and the compliment was so telling of how much she saw Shauna and herself as an inseparable friendship duo. Meanwhile Shauna was practically begging for something to change whether it was where she was going to school or the status of her friendship with Jackie.
Sometimes, I wonder. If Jackie had given Shauna a genuine comment back in Episode 1, what would she have said?
And would it have changed anything? (Validating Shauna as her own person, not as an entity that exists with Jackie)

*Edit: I meant genuine as in like heartfelt, not that she was lying...I didn't think she was

i want to gush about a fandom that i was in, still love to bits because i just thought about it today.
the one fandom that was super small, kind of niche fandom i was in that had the most diverse AU fanfictions I've ever seen was The Prom. The fandom is kind of dead now which makes me sad but oh my god for such a small fandom there were fics such as Space AU, A League of Our Own AU before the Netflix series was a thing, WWII Fighter Pilots AU, Hogwarts AU (Standard for any fandom at this point), Dancing with the Stars AU, Home Renovation AU, when they were Chefs ones. there was even a soccer AU (unfinished) that kinda fascinates me more now that I watch Yellowjackets (even though that show is like 1% soccer really). Like oh my god, they were all so well written too. Genuinely if you like wlw, feel good stories, read those. Like, why the fuck not?
Like I get it, those AUs aren't new, they've existed in fandom spaces sure but like The Prom is so niche and the fandom either died with the movie release or when The Prom was gone from Broadway. But while it was still very active i had so much fun eating those stories up.

can we actually stop saying that shauna left jackie to freeze? like when jackie got out of the cabin it wasn't even snowing, they didn't have a clue that it would snow. that's what makes it tragic, shauna could've saved her but she didn't think that it would SNOW??? like stop blaming shauna for it😭
yes, it could've gone differently if she went out to apologize but they couldn't have known that it would snow that day
