Hey. If you feel stressed or overwhelmed, try knitting. It's gonna help your body feel like it's doing something, and that's going to relieve tension so you can think straight.
Don't know how to knit? Get yourself a knitting loom and watch a couple of tutorials. The learning curb for these is super low and you can knit a scarf in the span of a week.
The looms look like this.
Round ones are for making tubular stuff (hats, sleeves, socks, infinity scarves) while the long ones are for flat stuff (traditional scarves, blankets).
The part of our brain that handles survival is not the part that understands global affairs or politics. But what it does understand is that "making a sock = calm, safe." Giving yourself those moments will help you keep your head on your shoulders, AND you'll get nice knitted things out of it.

this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now 👐
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!

Surviving, community, and you!
Ok folks....it's going to be a rough time for everyone for the next while.
Stuff is going to seem really insane, people may get tired, angry, or afraid.
We will all hear crazy stuff on the news. The current administration in the USA will make everyone exhausted (for both Americans, and everyone else, especially countries the orange guy wants to annex...but we won't let him)
So we all need to take care of our communities as best we can.
Check in on your friends
Try to reach out to LGBTQIA friends, and especially trans folk to see how you can best help them
Reach out to your BIPOC people Encourage creativity and art
Showcase Make do and Mend tactics to help save money in the longer term
Share recipes and skills
Teach and learn skills to repair our stuff
Learn how to knit, crochet, embroider, paint or sculpt
Live! Even if just out of spite.
On the skills front, if anyone has sewing questions, reach out to me here, on Bluesky, or YouTube and I will try to help you, or even make little videos to showcase and help you with a specific question or repair, as best I can. I try to make all my sewing resources as free and as open source as I possibly can. I also have some free wartime knitting books, and other patterns and resources on my Linktree which goes to a google drive, as well as free on my Ko-Fi

As someone who learned how to draft patterns in college using the good ol' pencil and paper method, there are now a lot of programs out there that are coming out of the woodworks that just produce patterns for you.
Some are helpful, not AI and free, like Freesewing.org (it uses a plotting method based on your measurements using basic scripts as far as I understand it Some are AI powered or 3d graphic powered to form into a flat pattern (like Clo3D, StyleCAD, Lectra Moderis)
There's also a lot of Etsy pattern sellers that make their own that are NOT beginner or user friendly, and some that are a little confusing. If you know people who sew, I suggest talking to your longtime sewists, to find out if a company is reputable to use for beginners or intermediate sewists.
There's also decent online references and Youtube videos if you ever want to get into drafting your own. To start, I strongly and highly recommend The Closet Historian https://www.youtube.com/@TheClosetHistorian
@theclosethistorian
Hey, if you do crafts (especially things like crochet, knitting, embroidery, etc), make sure to look up how to identify when a listing is AI generated. You do NOT want to waste money on an incredible looking kit or pattern that is physically impossible to make, especially if you're on sites like etsy hoping to support an actual artist.

David Lynch's Weather Report 3/6/21, 4/10/21, 2/20/22... among others! It was a very recurring sentiment. He wanted everyone to have good luck and fun with our projects.

to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube
they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!
i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies

I got permission to post these online so here was our guild's Distaff Day!
We got little bags with a Southern Wool blend and there was a competition to see who could get the most length on the drop spindle provided or they had a seperate catergory for wheel spinners.
I won in the drop spindle category with 63.7yds! Mind you, I had only one other competitor and they aren't normally a spinner, they spin once a year for Distaff Day XD
My prize was wood soap which I got a kick out of getting right after talking about cleaning up my old wheel.
We had a 'pin the horns on the sheep' that no one was brave enough to attempt but I thought was a clever idea
And then there was a board for people to put sticky notes of their favorite fibre to spin
Finally, here we are just spinning away!
Truly a lovely day filled with lovely people ♡

Jeny’s interlock bind off
I was asked which cast off best matches the German twisted cast on.
The answer is: Jeny’s interlock bind off. It’s stretchy and looks really neat!
