A group of people once voted on my most obvious personal tendency. They said nothing except that I will never settle down. Ever since that day, I have been resolute in my desire to prove them wrong. 

Today I failed. 

On July 9th 2010, I asked out the most beautiful woman in all the world. It's not an exaggeration- I asked everyone. On December 14 2011, I broke up with her simply because I love her immensely but the problems of the last year have made the relationship impossible. I am determined not to forget the good times and to forget the bad. What disturbs me, though, is how fate denied me the perfect opportunity for happiness. It gave me earthquakes, a mental illness and tough times to put the icing on this metaphorical shit-cake of a year. I love her, I miss her and I want to live in a beautiful part of Paris with her forever. 

Sadly, it isn't to be at the moment. I am doomed to a painfully nostalgic recollection of the past, a dim view of the present and a crippled hope for the future. I only hope somehow that my unending love for this girl can protect her from all the bad things in the world that ended us. She deserves that and, you, as the wider world need to pay attention because Ngahere is the type of girl the world should foster.

So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips' touch, she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete.

A few thoughts on Libya

Hey everyone,

I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you all a little bit about what I think about what is currently going on in Libya. This rather violent revolution has finally come to a slightly gruesome head and our TV sets have been filled with images from Ghaddafi's swift departure. These very nasty images have shocked a lot of people (myself included) and have left a lot of people wondering whether this was really necessary. On the one hand you have those who believe that Ghaddafi's opponents should have taken the moral high ground and left him alone. While on the other, people see this as a form of justified punishment. 

In my somewhat uneducated opinion on this, I think that this is the type of fate that greets people who have oppressed populations for years. It's very easy for us, in Western liberal democracies, to see a brutal act like this and wonder what could possess people to do something like that, but we are very removed from the actual setting. If we, in Western countries, possessed a little more empathy and weren't so jaded by the constant negativity on the news I'm sure we could fully understand what made these people act this way. Dictators are bad enough, but a dictator who is willing to render an entire country scared of what his army will do is on a whole new level. Really, we have to think what it would be like to live there because, if you can do that even for a second, you start to understand why this natural justice had to occur.
