Bite-Size Review: 12 Angry Men (1957)
What a wonderful film! Certainly the best black and white I've ever seen. Excellent use of space considering how intriguing it was for being filmed in essentially all one room! The range of emotion and character provided each individual enough distinction without adhering to overly simplistic clichés. I most enjoyed the quasi mystery theme coupled with significant character development throughout the course of the film. Rather than presenting 12 men with each somewhat different mindsets at the outset of the movie, each individual’s true personality was both gradually expressed and altered throughout the feature.

"I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you're not around, and the fact that you didn't call. But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all. " - Kat Stratford

Random Observation:
Tumblr media
You're sitting at a four way stop with another car that got to the stop sign at the same time you did. Obviously, right of way rules would come in handy here, but for some reason no one cares to use them much anymore. Instead we're left with the go ahead wave or the rapid high beam flash. Both are naturally to be considered kind gestures as it's a form of someone merely saying, "No you go ahead of me". This would all be fine if the moment we received the go ahead signal, we decided to actually move our cars, however, this rarely happens. Instead, other drivers like to start a game of "signal" tennis in which they volley their "you go" signal back and forth until someone gets angry or frustrated enough to actually make the first move. It's really quite ridiculous because we both not only wasted each other's time and potentially created a log jam at the intersection with other cars, but we likely got angry in the process of trying to do something nice. Seriously how many things in life actually make people frustrated when you try doing something kind. Why is this a thing, I don't know, but maybe the next time this happens, just go when the other driver tells you to, because we all can likely accept the fact that this dynamic just isn't working

My current ranking of all full feature Wes Anderson films so far. I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for Fantastic Mr. Fox, but that one is just weird. Do you agree with the rest? How would you rank them?

Just imagine this for a second...Welsh Corgis of all sizes, colors, types, and temperaments running free on a plot of land with acres of open space and interesting features. Like the majestic buffalo on the old American plains roaming free as they travel in astonishing herds. Now just substitute the buffalo for Corgis, trade the entire western plains for about a dozen acres, build observation decks and a tour for paying customers and I think we have a pretty solid business idea. Plus all these Corgis could be rescued or adopted from all over the country to give less fortunate Corgis a new home. Shout it from the roof tops...the Great Corgi Migration has begun!
