da kitchen express; its usually the hole-in-the-wall spots that serve up the most authentic, local food. i just had to try traditional hawaiian food while in maui & was not disappointed; teriyaki beef sandwich, kaluha pork, chicken katsu wrapped in a banana leaf topped off with all the best local brews.

cambodian staple;  ginger chicken with roasted red and green peppers and onions. the setting of a butterfly sanctuary, the sound of waterfalls and the quality, fresh ingredients made this one of the most relaxing and refreshing lunches i've ever experienced in 45+ humidity.

local catch;  ahi tuna burger with wasabi mayo and creamy coleslaw. i think i can fairly say that everyone on the island of Maui is catching on to this little dive's fresh fish and innovative menu items.

the breakfast of sins;  when we decided to go for sunday brunch at Recette, the most innocent, quaint little brunch spot in Greenwich Village, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. to be fair, most of their offerings were light, but i guess this indulgent french toast was their way of balancing out the menu. 

inside these two crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside pieces of french toast hid thick layers of peanut butter and jam with sliced bananas. topped with a delicious earl grey maple syrup sauce and sprinkled with icing sugar.

cinnabon calls; i don't know what addictive drug they've added to their cinnamon bun air freshener that they spray outside every Cinnabon location in North America, but it works every time. Surrounded by turkey legs and other gluttonous temptations at Orlando's Universal Studios, we settled for a massive, oozing cinnamon bun, and of course regretted getting one for the two of us.  ... so we went back and bought 12 mini-cinnamon buns. but we were too embarrassed to document it.

kalguksu krazed;  myeong-dong gyoja apparently offers the best kalguksu in Seoul, as a tourist I wouldn't know the difference but the dish sure was delicious, worth the hectic atmosphere and the long wait. this was that defining moment in every person's life when i realized i could dig dumplings. the side of kimchi offered the perfect spicy balance to the mild broth, waiters wandered around with infinite refills of kimchi if you wanted more.

mahi mahi mayhem;  so its been a while since i've posted, but i realized that it's not fair for me to keep all these beautiful food photos to myself when i could be sharing them with the world! from my recent trip to maui, mahi mahi tacos with a cilantro, cheddar, tomato, mango, bean salsa and a fresh side salad with papaya dressing. don't forget the guac! the perfect light meal for a hot day.

sweet indulgences;  the best part about vacations? eating and drinking whatever you want whenever you feel like it. delicious pastries from the nearest bakery (my favourite was the dulce de leche) sided with a refreshing homemade pina colada. consumed at noon whilst lounging poolside in the sun. why not!

succulent steak;  i couldn't not indulge in quality alberta beef while in Calgary, and I knew The Keg Steakhouse is one of the best places to get a good steak. i started with a delicious strawberry spinach salad with goat cheese and candied pecans. followed by this perfect medium top sirloin steak topped with goat cheese and pecans, sided with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini, mushrooms and peppers.

lunch leftovers; the best part about christmas? eating the leftovers at every meal for a week afterwards. on top; turkey, melted brie, grilled apples, spinach, mustard and cranberry sauce sandwiched between slightly over-grilled whole wheat. perfect breakfast idea seen on bottom; an egg white frittata made of leftover turkey and stuffing, onions, spinach, mushrooms and broccoli sided with cranberry sauce.

saving on sushi;  there's no happier customer than the one who discovers the exact rolls they were craving are featured for $6.95 on the menu. not only that, but the bargain sushi was actually delicious! california and spicy salmon rolls on brown rice.

sweet sandwich;  i'm all about trying new grilled cheese combinations and this simple sandwich definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. grilled apples, blackberries and old white cheddar cheese on my favourite hazelnut, cranberry and raisin bread.

incredible indian;  i've tried quite a few indian restaurants in Toronto but few compare to The Host in Yorkville, which i'd have to say comes in a close second to my favourite all you can eat lunch buffet at Little India Restaurant on Queen West. Although this place can get a bit pricey (and subsequently attracts an uptight business crowd), the quality of their dishes is impeccable. what keeps me coming back is their succulent, spicy tandoori chicken (seen on the right). baigan patiala on the left; eggplant seasoned with onion seeds and fresh herbs. on the right, your classic butter chicken. dishes were served with  basmati rice, soft naan and complimentary papadum.

glorious gnocchi; its now become tradition every christmas season to hit up one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, the cozy Queen Mother Cafe. every year we get their fantastic pad thai, but this year the special was too good to resist. pumpkin gnocchi (yes you heard right) in a pesto cream sauce with grilled asparagus, zucchini, red peppers and loaded with parmesan. the ultimate winter comfort dish.

eggs nova; vivetha does no wrong. smoked salmon, poached eggs and the perfect hollandaise sauce over toasted english muffins. sided with home fries, fresh fruit and salad with a light citrus dressing.

super sandwich; i guess you could now call me a regular at Vivetha Bistro, but i always try something new, and this sandwich did not disappoint! their grilled vegetable sandwich; roasted peppers, portobello mushrooms, zucchini, asparagus, eggplant, spinach and goat cheese. sided with perfectly crispy fries and mixed greens. can you believe all this was only $9.00!
