I gotta say it’s a hilarious reach when people cope by saying Padmé choosing Anakin was her just being mindlessly horny as if Anakin wasn’t the first and only guy to actually make her behave horny and desire someone that much. Fam, she didn’t just want dick, she wanted HIS dick.

Today on 1am Star Wars thoughts, I have a gripe about the fandom’s gripes about Padme’s blue nightgowns.
Every time I see someone talking about them it feels like it’s always based on the assumption that we’re meant to believe that this is her normal sleepwear. That we’re meant to accept the premise of a woman sleeping with styled hair and a full face of makeup and a dress with strands of pearls on it as normal, everyday behavior.
But the thing is, I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. (I mean, maybe George thinks like that but there’s a whole team of people behind every costume you see on screen and the director is not the only one with input)
Because the thing is we’ve seen other instances of Padme’s sleepwear.
Twice in Attack of the Clones we get glimpses of her sleepwear but the scene where we get the best look is at the lake house where she is wearing a pretty but fairly normal looking nightgown with a dark blue robe over it. By the time the blue nightgowns come in we’ve already seen her in normal sleepwear. So… what changes between then and when the blue nightgowns appear?
She gets married and her husband goes to war.
I don’t think we’re meant to assume that she’s just suddenly in the last couple years developed a taste for extremely uncomfortable sleepwear. I don’t think those nightgowns are really sleepwear. Padme may fall asleep in them but she’s not putting them on to sleep, she’s putting them on to spend a rare night with her husband who is back from deployment.
It’s “welcome home” lingerie.
It’s quite conservative, this is technically meant to be a family friendly movie and besides they’re dealing with the logistics of Padme’s pregnancy so baring her midriff or back probably weren’t really options and they’d pretty solidly established a language for Padme’s costuming that doesn’t involve cleavage. But I think from an adult perspective we’re supposed to recognize that the married couple who have conceived a child are having sex. And are meant to be able to add up the facts provided and recognize that a young couple spending long stretches of time apart are may be spending the time they have together engaging in activities that sometimes result in Padme falling asleep in sexy, uncomfortable nightwear rather than changing into something more comfortable.
Anyway, that’s my personal opinion/headcanon. Padme does have comfortable nightgowns, we’ve seen them, she’s breaking out the space lingerie because her husband has been away and she’s missed him and she wants to enjoy their alone time before they have kids and that time gets even more limited.

there was a quote somewhere about how padmé was drawn very innocently for tpm, and more alluring for aotc so I like to think she is aware of how beautiful she is, but she doesn't use it as a weapon(except it comes to anakin)
I saw a post about how Iain Mccaig’s AOTC concept art Padmé had the seduction and elegance of a falcon while canon (GL’s) Padmé had the elegance of a dove. And honestly, yeah I agree. Padmé’s AOTC concept art isn’t the true reflection of whom Padmé’s character is, and it’s not a bad thing! Concept art Padmé is gorgeous (I’m obsessed) but the danger, power, seduction, sharper eyes instead of doe ones, and this sith like presence in her aura, eyes, and style just isn’t Padmé. Canonically, Padmé is all sweetness wrapped up in seductive and alluring beauty, she’s not someone who knows she’s capable of making 10 men drop dead at her feet with just a wink, she’s always sincere and passionate and ready to give her whole heart to the chase no matter what it is. She’s selfless and bubbly, vibrant and colourful, while also being a courageous leader and maintaining a serious reputation for herself.
And honestly, I’m not even saying this more seductive-sneaky and dangerous Padmé whom we see in the concepts aren’t anything like Padmé either, I’m just saying that’s not whom she is at nature, and essentially the way she was crafted in the final version of the story is what makes sense and aligns with her character. In my opinion, I think behind closed doors (with Anakin specifically lol.) this more dangerous side to Padmé comes out, and she goes from being elegant like a dove to elegant like a falcon 🔥 and we see proof of that in the scene with Anakin by the fireplace in AOTC, with her seductive style and sharp bedroom eyes. This side of Padmé is the one that knows she can absolutely own her man, and make him do whatever she wants, and I expect that works out well for her a lot, lmao.

concept art for Padmé's corset gown by Iain McCaig
As much as I love Natalie Portman as Padme... I want the woman Ian McCaig offered us in his concept art.
Ian's Padme and Natalie's Padme are not the same woman.
But I also know, in my heart, that Ian's Padme is not what the Prequels required. She was too powerful. She could have crooked a finger and Anakin would have left the Jedi and his destiny to sit at her right hand; adoring guard dog and only slightly grudging trophy husband. He'd have toppled regimes at her command. And Ian's Padme might have actually asked.
There is just more power to her than Natalie. Something more calculating and predatory. She is not a sweet girl in sexy outfits. She knows exactly what effect she has on people, and wields her feminine wiles like a razor sharp blade hidden up a delicate lace sleeve. She's not graceful like dove, she's graceful like a falcon.
....... sorry, Ian McCaig art crossed my dash again and my brain side-tracked HARD on it. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk or whatever.

People: Anakin manipulated Padme into marriage, it was Stockholm syndrome, she didn't really love him, she was blinded by showy athletics, she- Padme the very first time she got Anakin alone:

Thinking about the two times in canon SW novels how Anakin and Padmé picked out flowers for each other.
Once in EKJ’s Padmé trilogy (Queen’s Hope) where Anakin picks up a petal and adorns it on Padmé’s hair, then asks her if her dad would be able to teach him how to plant so he can make Padmé a beautiful garden full of colorful flowers one day. And once again in Mike Chen’s Brotherhood novel where Anidala sneak out for a date on the lower levels of Coruscant and they’re strolling through a market then Padmé picks up two purple flowers from a flower stall and puts one in her hair, then the other peaking out from Anakin’s breast pocket.
Flower picking, gardening, and picnics are 100% an Anidala thing. Need I say more?

headcanon that padmé likes wearing backless dresses bc they're so much less restrictive than her usual formal attire and make her feel relaxed
