@queen-lance made a post that reminded me of the thoughts I've long had about these panels.
This is Ollie, explaining to Mia why he's not going to train her to become Speedy, no matter how much she pouts about it. And he's right to be concerned about enabling kids to jump into this crazy life that he leads. This is an Ollie who saw this life lead his son down a dark path that could have killed him. Who saw his best friend go out of his mind and murder people, who had to kill said best friend, and who then died, himself. He's grown, he's changed, and he's seen first-hand what this life can do to a person -- and he doesn't want that for Mia. From the first moment he met her, he saw her as a child who wasn't being treated like a child -- and when she eventually came under his care, by God, he was going to make sure that she had the childhood she always deserved. To Ollie, getting involved in this superhero game is the opposite of that. It's taking that childhood away again, inflicting new scars atop the old ones that still haven't healed. To Ollie, sending Mia out there into harm's way is barely any different than sending her back to the life she came from. But the reason that it falls flat in Mia's eyes is because... well... look what he's saying, and who he's saying it to. This is a rich boy who grew up privileged, who didn't realize how spoiled and selfish he was until reality slapped him in the face, telling a girl who grew up abused by someone who should have loved and protected her, who hasn't known anything except the worst, dirtiest things that people can do to a child, that "it's a nastier world out there now". Can you imagine how absolutely, frustratingly laughable that must sound to her? "Local dweeb finds out world is actually pretty shitty, film at 11." This "nastier world" isn't new to her. It's the way the world has always been. It's not going to stop being nasty just because she lives with Ollie now. Her childhood isn't actually something she can ever get back -- and she tells him so at least once when she talks about her dad, that she stopped being a child a long time ago. He's telling her that keeping her at home is keeping her safe from the bad guys... but the bad guys in her life were at home the whole time. She doesn't want to become a superhero because she's a thrill-seeker, or because she's naïve about the true nature of the world. In her eyes, the world is going to be cruel either way -- the difference is whether she's being empowered to fight back, or whether she's going to keep struggling to fight back. She's going to fight either way -- because that's what she is, a fighter -- but there's a difference between surviving and thriving. Superheroing, to Mia, is fighting the fight against this dirty world with better tools. Ollie has the ability to train her into someone with the skills to protect herself more effectively, and -- even more importantly -- to protect other people. Because that's something that's important to her, which she'll express to him later on: the ability to be, for someone else, the person who should have been there for her and never was... until the day Ollie handed her a little business card that gave her the little bit of hope that she needed in order to save herself. The very first person, in her entire life, to reach a hand out to her in kindness was a stranger in bright tights, toting around a bow. Is it really any wonder that she wanted so badly to be that tight-wearing stranger for someone else?
To Ollie, superheroing was stepping out of his relatively safe world and choosing one that's full of fighting and pain in order to sacrifice for others. To Mia, it's acquiring a new and improved arsenal to meet a world that was never safe in the first place, that was already full of fighting and pain -- an arsenal that allows her the choice of how she's going to experience that pain, and what she's going to do with it, instead of being a slave to it.

Good points tbh, and yeah, i hope so too, or at least that we get his backstory and explanation for all those inconsistencies like the injections and non-organic webbing.
I believe comics Miguel would stand againts ATSV Miguel, like Miguel saying what is and isn't canon and what events HAVE to happen without 100% understanding it all makes me feel like comics Miguel would not stand by it because that's the type of rushful behavior that made him quit Alchemax in the first place.
"Cameras everywhere, even where people wouldn't want them, your own elite foot soldiers and rule books...you really are like our dad." I can lowkey hear him say about it all to ATSV Miguel (maybe as casually tears a camera off it's stand to look into it's lense with a frown).
I love people putting Miguel against Hobie's beliefs, as if entirety of Miguel O'Hara's story wasn't about fighting capitalism and evil corporations

I have started reading the original run on Spider-Man 2099 by Peter David (on issue 12 rn, great shit) and it actually kinda made me dislike ATSV as an adaptation of these characters?
Especialy Miguel, because i am supposed to believe this guy who's fighting cops and corporations and aids protesters and protects people who do anti-alchemax grafiti from cops hurting them, the guy who was intentionaly built to be the opposite of Peter Parker and Spider-Man in every possible way...is the guy who tells us what Spider-Man is supposed to be and is policing what's supposed to happen?!
Miguels first intentional act of rebelion was beating up cops about to attack Thorites protesting Alchemax and then destroying HIS DADS piece of surveillance tech, a piece of a surveillance system his dad designed, installed and repaired. And then first moment we meet Miguel with Miles is when he's SURVEILLING the other universe?!
Not to mention Miguel believing that Spider-Man has a specific set of events that has to happen to each universe is so dumb considering he breaks basicly every. Single. One.
He doesn't have an uncle that dies and motivates him, isn't bitten, doesn't have a police captain he's close to, doesn't have a spidey sense or most of Peters powers, has a different home life, isn't really quippy in the costume and instead is very dry and sarcastic out of it. He doesn't follow the typical rules of what Spider-Man is and yet HE enforces them? That's just hypocritical to a stupid degree.
I completely believe it should've been Superior Spider-Man instead of Miguel in ATSV, he fits the role perfectly, don't even reveal he's Otto 'till Beyond.
Ehm ...well that devolved into a pretty hefty rant...meh, i had to get it out somewhere.
I love people putting Miguel against Hobie's beliefs, as if entirety of Miguel O'Hara's story wasn't about fighting capitalism and evil corporations
#miguel o'hara#spider-man 2099#spider-man#superior spider-man#across the spiderverse#atsv#it just bothers me so much tbh#also i hate how the movie ignored ALL of his supporting cast

So during the Slott era, May Parker married J Jonah Jameson...Senior, JJs dad, making Jonah and Peter technicaly related for a few years. From like... Marvel Now era till about end of ANAD because then Senior died if i remember right. We also know that May and Senior slept together because they got caught naked in bed. (Pretty sure May once slept with Jarvis, Tonys butler, whi might've been a skrull at that point because it happened during Secret Invasion era when Peter, MJ and May lived with the Avengers, but i only know of that through Comic Drake and am not sure if i remember the details right)
J.J.Jameson at any inconvenience on his life: I will... *remembering that suicide jokes are bad to his mental health* ... find a way to responsabilize Spider-Man for this.

Save Abdulsalam's Father!
Abdulsalam Al-Anqur (found at @aboodanqar20 and @imanfamily2024) and his family have been trapped in Gaza, enduring a genocide for almost a year. Abdulsalam is a husband, and a father to a one year old daughter, Iman. He hopes to evacuate his family to safety in Egypt.
Abdulsalam's goal is even more urgent, as his elderly father, Ahmed Al-Anqur, has been diagnosed with cancer, and requires surgery every 3 months. However, due to the war, being able to get the necessary surgery is extremely unlikely, and far too expensive to afford on their own. Ahmed also needs access to medications which are very hard to obtain in Gaza.
Here are some of the medications Ahmed requires, as well as medical documents Abdulsalam asked me to share.
Right now, Abdulsalam needs funds to care for his family. He needs to purchase food, a good tent to protect against the coming winter cold, and medicine for his father. He also needs to save money so that when the border opens, he and his family can evacuate to Egypt.
The costs for traveling to Egypt are extremely high, and the prices for housing, hospitalization, and housing are massive as well. Abdulsalam needs more money to pay for his father's treatment, but he has only raised a small amount of what he needs.
€2,745 / 50,000
Right now, Abdulsalam has only raised a fraction of his goal. He needs your help get the food, medicine, and safety his family desperately needs. Don't ignore him. Donate, share his campaign, send it to your friends.
Don't be complacent, you can make a difference in this family's lives.

Save Dr. Farhat's family from genocide in Gaza
👇 "Unveil the truth – Dive into the full story."
✅ This GoFundMe Verified (248) on this list 🔍 by @el-shab-hussein @nabulsi @90-ghost
In the heart of war-torn Gaza, where destruction and loss are a daily reality, lies the deeply moving tale of Dr. Husam Farhat and his family. Amidst the relentless bombardment, Dr. Farhat faced an unthinkable tragedy: the martyrdom of his beloved sisters, Inas and Amal, along with their husbands and children, and his brother Mustafa. This devastating loss shattered not only their dreams but also their hopes for a peaceful future.
Life Before the War: Memories of a Beautiful Home
Before the war, my life revolved around a beautiful home where I lived with my wife, our daughter Sham, and our sons Muhannad and Muhammad. This home was more than just a place to live; it was a sanctuary filled with love, warmth, and the joy of watching my children grow. Every corner of our home echoed with their laughter, turning it into a place where dreams for the future felt not only possible but inevitable, but then the war came, and in an instant, everything changed. The place where we once felt safe and secure was reduced to rubble. The life we had carefully built, the dreams we had nurtured, and the bright future we had planned were all torn apart. The war didn’t just destroy our home; it uprooted our entire existence, leaving us with nothing but the painful memories of what once was, Now, standing in the ruins of our former life, I'm left with fragments of a distant dream. The joy and security we once knew have been replaced by loss and uncertainty as we face a future overshadowed by harsh realities.
The Loss of My Professional Dream and Life After the War
And it wasn’t just my home that was destroyed. My accounting office, one of the most renowned in Palestine, was also reduced to rubble. I had worked tirelessly to build this office, which wasn't just a place of business but a reflection of my passion and dedication to the field of accounting. It was our primary source of income, providing financial stability and security for my family, My office was well-known for its exceptional services and strong reputation among clients. Over the years, it had become a symbol of success and hard work in the accounting world. But the war took it all away in an instant. Everything I had worked so hard to achieve was destroyed, and years of effort and dedication were wiped out in moments, Now, I stand on the ruins of my office, just as I stand on the ruins of my life, trying to piece together the remnants of my dreams and memories. This office was a source of pride for me and my family, but the war has left us with nothing, facing an uncertain and difficult future.
War's Toll on My Dreams and Future
The war didn’t just destroy my home and office; it shattered my dreams and future. As a PhD candidate in Accounting Information Systems at Universiti Utara Malaysia, I was in my final year, pursuing research that is a significant contribution to my field and valuable to entrepreneurs. With a master’s degree with distinction and a bachelor's degree, I also taught at several universities, sharing my knowledge and passion, But the war disrupted everything. Years of hard work, academic progress, and my contributions to the field have been torn apart, leaving me with an uncertain future. Now, I am faced with the daunting task of not only rebuilding my life but also reviving the dreams and ambitions that once drove me. The journey ahead is filled with challenges, but my resolve to continue remains strong.
Displacement and Uncertainty After the War
Now, after all this devastation, my family and I are living as displaced people, homeless and jobless, with no clear future for ourselves or our children. Every day is a struggle to find food for my children, who have been robbed of every chance at a normal life by this war. Once, we lived in Shuja'iyya, in North Gaza, where we had a home, a life, and dreams. But now, after being displaced over nine times, we find ourselves in the refugee camps of Nuseirat, the war has stripped us of everything—our home, our security, and our future. Our daily life has become a constant search for basic necessities, a far cry from the life we once knew. The dreams I had for my children and myself now feel like distant memories, overshadowed by the relentless challenges of survival. Each day brings new uncertainties, as we navigate this harsh new reality, clinging to the hope that one day we might rebuild what was lost.
Rebuild Hope: A Call to Stand with Us
We urgently call on all those who stand in solidarity with us, and every supporter, to help save what remains of our lives. Your assistance, even in small ways, can make a significant difference in helping us rebuild and restore our shattered world, rebuilding feels like an insurmountable task, but with your help, we can begin to piece together what was lost. Your contributions, no matter how small, can provide the foundation we need to start anew, offering hope and a chance at a better future for our family. Your solidarity means the world to us as we navigate these challenging times.

🚨 !! DONT SKIP !! donations urgently needed 🚨
✅ Verified campaign – please check the end of the story 🔍📌
I'm Anas Basil, a recent high school graduate with dreams of pursuing a degree in e-business management and building a career. However, due to my family's financial hardships, I enrolled at Khan Younis Training College (KYTC), affiliated with UNRWA. Sadly, the war has turned the college, once a beacon of hope and education, into a shelter for displaced families, stripping it of its educational purpose.
I completed high school with a 93% average, filled with excitement about continuing my education and securing a job to support my family. But like so many others, the war has shattered those dreams.
My younger brother, Ahmad, is 14 years old and currently in the third grade of preparatory school. We’ve always called him "Doctor of the Future" because of his intelligence and natural talent in mathematics. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing war, he has been deprived of schooling for the second consecutive year. In addition to his academic abilities, Ahmad has a passion for football and used to win tournaments.
Our Life in Displacement: The war forced our family to flee to Rafah, where we lived in a tent for several months. Each day, my brother and I would wake up to fetch water, gather wood, and light a fire to prepare food. Survival became our daily task, but we never gave up hope. The conflict affected us deeply, but it did not extinguish our dreams of education and a better future.
🚀 How Your Donation will Help us:
We are seeking €29,000 to help Ahmed and me leave Gaza, continue our education. More importantly, it will allow us to support our family, who have been deeply affected by the harsh conditions and skyrocketing costs of living due to the ongoing war in Gaza.
We've outlined how your donations will make this possible. You can find all the details in the campaign link below.
👉 Donation link: 🔗https://gofund.me/32e5e95e
Your contribution will not only help us escape the war-torn reality we live in but also give us the opportunity to rebuild our futures.
Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us one step closer to our goal.
With deepest gratitude, Anas & Ahmed

OH OH we were actually talking about this with a friend, considering that Peter SHOULD be like that because firstly, he canonicaly considered using his powers for a life of crime to get by, but didn't because the thought of being caught and having to face May was too much for him, whitch means he nearly went down the same path alot of criminals (like the ones he usualy faces) goes through.
I think it also helps that originaly, he kinda kept being Spider-Man because it was the only for him to make money thanks to superhero and supervillian photos being in high demand.
And like...logicaly he SHOULD steal shit, and even in the MCU he fucking DOES, he steals school supplies for web-fluid and dumpster dives for stuff whitch i am pretty sure is illegal! Because it's basicly impossible (logicaly) for him to take care of bills, rent, food, web-fluid, new costumes (that include fabric, lenses materials, maybe whatever he uses for web-wings and possibly soles for his boots), web-shooter parts, bus/train/subway fare (he should, and does, just travel ILLEGALY by sitting on the front or side of them, for free), and whatever pocket money while usualy having one job and, depending on the universe, be the only "breadwinner", he should get to steal to get by.
Peter should see a guy running from a store with food and be like "i get it" but for the peace of mind follow him and make sure he won't hurt someone like Uncle Bens killer did. Even Insomniac had him steal data/info from Fisk in the Heist comics.
Peter is a street vigilante and a hero of the people, making him have strict "good and bad" morality is not only reducing his character but also boring. It also makes many of his relationships and dynamics way more interesting and layered.
Anyways, LOVEEE the pitch. Sounds great.
Yk, I hate that adaptations keep making Peter a high schooler, and not just because it means he never evolves, but because the adaptations now also include wider Marvel, whitch usually (thanks to the MCU) is at the modern day stage with legacy characters and new age teen heroes, meaning that Peter is taking up Miles' spot and you can really tell when they put him next to someone like Kamala Khan or Sam Alexander who are Miles' pals. Tho Peter taking Miles' stuff is just a modern issue overall, just look at MCU whitch just stole and re-skinned Miles' personality, characters, story-beats, even the costume to an extent and then made it worse.
agree 👏

Andrew's Spider-Man is really accurate in ways that are really overlooked and not many point out these aspects
Spider-Man's quips in the comic are not just for laughs but can be used to mock/annoy his foes and/or distract them
Which is exhibited in these two scenes:
Something that maybe a lot of people don't know, but Spider-Man in the comic likes to show off his abilities in many instances when he has the opportunity to and seems to talk about how he can do certain things that his opponents can't
and this can be exemplified in the movie where he talks about him creating his own web shooter to the car thief
Another aspect which I think many people noticed is how in the movie he seemingly enjoys being Spider-Man which is actually faithful to the beginning of Peter's career as Spider-Man
