Having synesthesia + being an avid music listener is extraordinary as much as it is isolating.

A song isn’t exclusively an audio experience, it’s an absolute feast for the senses (for better or worse)

But when I go to share it with a friend, all they’re going to get is just another song. Like no bestie, you don’t understand, I sent it to you so you too can feel like you’re witnessing the awe of magic for the first time in a grand display of wonder— just for it to boil down to a violin and piano done up for the millionth time. goddamnit

Listening to music + having synesthesia is so surreal.

One song feels like a warm, pure, gentle love from another time in which I haven’t lived, a soft hug wraps my soul, a home beyond this plane of existence. It’s safe, it’s kind, yet somehow bittersweet, like something wicked thinly lines the brick road we walk upon. But right now, that doesn’t matter.

Another feels like I’m trapped within a void-like reality, the air trickles with the static not unlike CRT TV, smells like childhood, in a generic yet gruesome manner. There’s kinetic sand made from an anthill and other unfavorable things perpetually filling my mouth, each grit grinds at my teeth with sticky nasty nonsense, the ants mixed in never dying despite their crunch, the more I spit out the more it magically replaces, I am choking, drifting aimlessly deeper into the darkened pixel snow abyss that pricks my skin, my nerves—

Anyway TL;DR: it’s pretty crazy out here

Idk why I thought it’d be such a good idea but well now I’m stuck with doing so (webcomic creator here so that shit’s public chapter by chapter)

Sometimes titles are self-explanatory/easy, other times it’s so difficult I question my legitimacy of being a writer. Like cmon this cannot be that difficult ;-;

If there’s one thing I despise about the human form, it’s that when I have a severe itch so intense, I cannot simply unravel my flesh and take a cheesegrater the exact bundle of nerves that ails me.

Kill Your Darlings. If you have done anything within a creative field, you've heard that saying in one form or another. You have plenty of ideas, but most of them cannot fit in your current work. That is why it is important to just write instead of trying to plan ahead. As you write, you will see characters or plots that don't work.

Using valuable time to try and weave a character and plot into your story while it fights everything else will never help. But if you begin writing to write, you will begin to see the natural trail to follow. And most of the time, that involves the death of some darlings.

If you love a character or plot too much, just Kidnap Your Darlings instead. To use them for a different project.
