Why?

Because apparently, it had been Barty's idea to pierce Regulus Black's lip a week ago while they were slightly-drunk in their dorm room.

And now?

James was having problems.

Sitting in a circle with twenty of his closest friends, he absolutely, positively, could not control his eyes. They kept slowly moving to stare longingly at the beautiful curve of Regulus's mouth as he laughed or smiled, now accentuated by the black hoop he occasionally poked at with his tongue.

And yes. James was respectful. But seeing the way Regulus's tongue laved over the cool metal while his teeth bit lightly, the tiniest clicking sounds reverberating around the room? It made him think of what other things Regulus's lips and tongue could do. How that metal hoop might feel slipping against James's own mouth. How Regulus might react if James bit at the piercing and pulled just a little.

He got completely lost in the fantasy of it.

So lost, in fact, that he didn't pay attention to the conversation going on around him until Peter, who was sitting next to him, nudged him harshly.

"Er...what?" he asked, jumping and blinking, blushing profusely when Regulus's eyes locked with his and the younger boy raised one perfect eyebrow.

"We were saying that the most attractive thing about a person is their eyes," Lily Evans said from somewhere to James's right. Though he couldn't be sure, as he didn't dare break eye contact. "What do you think?"

Regulus, eyes glittering with amusement, slowly gave a little smirk and sucked his piercing into his mouth, tilting his head to the side.

"Lips," James choked out, breath stolen from his lungs. "Definitely lips."

That was a very difficult one to explain to Sirius later.
