Your Bones
They died a Billion years ago Fossilised in flesh Your breath She is already Death Our Earth Of water and World Seventy Percent So are you Act like you do And show me a truth I just need one thing To hold on to Tell me why I’m wrong about you And one day you might learn my true name A Rose blooms in me Because only one person has Weeds grow on your skin Do you pick and peel Burn away? Dissesntience is but a tool Once a gift From Ancestor moths And ghosts on the seas A mist so fine A pale world of Green And blue rivers Aras turned red By Dawn and new light Reveal all lies

What if I’m wrong What if I don’t know It’s just another lie? What if I don’t care anymore Whether Science casts light or hides? What if I just wanna have A lil bit of faith Every now and again? What if we all used different words for that? Wouldn’t that be cool and chill? Isn’t that exactly what our Mothers need right now? Arda Erde Erd Ent Tree Earth These are all just Tolkinieian words

okay. regarding the ASL interpreter on the news about hurricane Milton.
im going to need everyone who doesn't know anything about ASL and interpretation to STOP trying to "catch" this lady faking ASL. honestly just shut up. I have seen so many "is this real? this looks so fake" posts over the past 2 days and its genuinely so irritating and disheartening. yall don't know anything about ASL as a language, Deaf culture, HoH culture, interpretation, NOTHING. and honestly, as a deaf person, its makes me frustrated seeing people blindly insult not only this specific interpreter but ASL as a whole.
ASL is not just English with your hands. it is a whole separate language with its own culture, grammar, and needs. the interpreters expressions were not eccentric or over the top. facial expressions are NECESSARY for D/deaf and HoH people. so many of us rely on them for tone and meaning.
"why can't they just use captions". number 1, ASL is not English. they're two different languages. number 2, live captioning can often be inaccurate. number 3, English might not be the first language of someone who uses an ASL interpreter.
if you're hearing about a deadly, horrific natural disaster on the news and your first instinct is to try and catch a "fake interpreter" without any knowledge of the language and culture, i need you to take a step back and stop speaking over the D/deaf/HoH community.
ASL and the D/deaf/HoH community have been consistently shunned and outcast from the rest of society, and people continuing to perpetuate harmful and frankly gross stereotypes and rumors about ASL and the D/deaf/HoH is disgusting. stop.

When i was like 13 was allowed to use the internet unrestricted for the first time and i spent a lot of time on Runescape. One of the people i talked to on there was this person who had much higher levels than me in every skill and had, to my perception, a seemingly overflowing amount of game resources. One day i was taking about wishing i could get gold ore to level my smithing and not having access to any and they like “here, you can have this gold that i have” and just gave me this big stack and i was like “i don’t even have anything to offer back”. They told me they didn’t need anything and just wanted to be nice. I said that they didn’t have to and what they told me honestly has stuck with me since, they said “life’s too short to spend it being mean to people” and like it’s such a simple thing to say but combined with their actions and the weight they bore to me at the time was hugely influential on my outlook on life and the way i treat others. I don’t know who that person is but they changed my life that day and I’m so thankful to them.

I was just outside a theatre, listening to my favourite music. I love all music, but I have been very brave this week, so I put in one of my first. Toxicity, by SoaD
I can’t remember which songs, I’ve been listening to the album since eating lunch with my colleagues. I went for some fresh air, to dance, so I could learn about myself for a little while, in peace
I was behind a theatre, a great flat cylinder, a giant glass window on the 2nd level
There were children inside
I noticed one was looking at me
I ignored them and danced better
I noticed another
Close eyes, dance harder
By the end I was spinning at about 50 revolutions per second, never once hit anything
None of the kids from a distance, saw me picking up carefully, the things that flew out of my pocket
They just saw a human, spinning faster than they thought a human could safely spin
I ended on the floor, to reset the swirling of my inner ear
They didn’t know I was born without a right cochlear
I didn’t until 30 years later
Once my vision cleared
And I stood back up
I watched them applaud in awe
Each one waved at me 👋
I waved back at each one 👋
At the end I took my bows and signed my thanks
I don’t know who they thought I was
I kept my eyes closed to not make myself lose my balance and fall into the canal behind me
Or smack into the art exhibit of poles I was dancing between
I don’t care
If you wanted to know who I am
Hi 👋 my name is Samantha Lórien Shepherd
I’m a cyber security operations specialist for my country’s top broadcaster
I’m a Lesbian, so is my Fiancée
I’m a Buddhist
I’m a Musician
I’m a Dancer
I’m D/deaf

Thanks for your response, it’s really cool that you learned our finger spelling!
I was probably born deaf but didn’t realise until way too late in life, I’ve been embracing Sign for about a year and it’s completely unlocked my self ^_^
I’d picked up a few things, you surprise yourself with how much you absorb naturally, but my fiancée learned it while working in a care home for Autistic adults. She also got some speech therapy when she was a teen which helped with hearing difficulties. She tried that on me at first but it just made me realise I’ve always struggled with it. Then she taught me some signs and I just spiralled out from there!
Tumblr media
For an example of a “prop”, here’s my Battle Jacket
[description: Denim Jacket with many Metal, Rock, Accessibility and Queer Pride patches sewn on. Some highlights are: System of a Down, Black Sabbath, Large Iron Maiden one one the back, a Targaryen Dragon. Also there’s a woman inside it but that’s boring. She has brown wavy hair past her shoulder on the right side and large circular glasses. She’s smiling with her tongue slightly out, kinda goofy like]
It’s a tradition in Metal music communities, which originated from the deafness of factory workers here during the Industrial Revolution.
It has all kinds of symbols that represent me and the things I care about! Plus it’s super practical. I have a bunch of pens in my top pocket ^_^
Are there accents in sign language? Like, within ASL or BSL, can you spot which deaf community an individual is from based on how far they tilt their hands in a movement, or some other seemingly subtle (or maybe big?) differences? Do families sign exactly the same way, in the same way hearing families often have extremely similar voices?
I imagine there's lots of ways to convey certain tones? I'm picturing maybe positioning your hands a certain way to convey that something you're signing is sarcastic, the same way hearing people change tone.
Do different generations have different slang? Like, do millennials and gen z have totally different ways of saying the same thing? Do deaf millennials have some equivalent of "doggo" which deaf gen z's roll their eyes at?
Do people create new signs all the time the same way slang in the hearing world is constantly evolving?
I'm really sorry if these questions are ignorant as hell.
I'm so intrigued and excited to learn more about a world I know very little about. I feel like there will be so many layers and intricacies I'm totally unaware of.
Please forgive any ignorance I'm showing 🌻

Why did English keep the German ‘stark’ as an intensifier but only for ‘naked’ and ‘raving mad’

Yes! In fact, there's a whole Sign Language continuum just like there is with spoken language. I think an easier way to think of it is as "Body Language" rather than sign language, I think that gets the idea of an individual's "voice" across at least ^_^ Also clothing, accessories and props make up a big part of this too! I have my notebook of nonsense half-Elivsh-half-Shorthand to leave messages for myself for example! And I wear my battle jacket. My Fiancée and I basically have our own signs that only we use with each other. Think of them as our little in-jokes, nick-names etc. She can't fingerSpell for toffee though! Sign language tends to be focused much more around 3D space, circles and repetitions, but each person has their own Sing Language just as speakers all have their own unique voices (which make them very confusing for me 😅)
