The Anthropology Graduate Student Society (AGSS) at Colorado State University is currently accepting submissions for the 9th volume of Furthering Perspectives. Submissions are due February 1st, 2019. Email your submission to this issue’s editor, Ned Molder at [email protected].
AGSS accepts work from graduate students and upper-class undergrads from Colorado State University and CSU College of Liberal Arts. Submissions can include independent research, papers written for class, a portion of your master’s thesis, or any other scholarly work created while you’ve been a student at CSU.
Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of CSU faculty and AGSS officers, giving students a taste of the academic peer review process. Issues of Furthering Perspectives are digital and live on the CSU library’s Digital Collections website, making this is a great opportunity to add a publishing credit to your CV.

"Alumni of liberal arts colleges number disproportionately high among the nation’s and the world’s leaders," reminds John I. Williams, Jr, newly elected President of Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania. "The world has never needed graduates of liberal arts colleges more than now. We're preparing students for a less certain future than ever before, and they'll need to come up with ways to innovate and adapt to changing circumstances."
Williams elaborates with 5 reasons why the liberal arts is key preparation for future leaders.

Alumnus Jack Wheeler has been participating in several archaeology surveys this summer with History Colorado and PCRG (Paleocultural Research Group).
A few weeks ago, they surveyed El Camino Real between Taos and Santa Fe (an old horse/mule road that connected to the wagon road at Santa Fe and continued to Mexico City). In addition to the historic linear resources they recorded, they also found several prehistoric cites with lithic scatters, bifaces, tools, and ceramics.
About a month ago, he was also on a survey to document Culturally Modified Trees (CMTs) north of Pagosa Springs. Check out the KUNC article about the project.
