A 1952 #Mercedes 220A, with "Rose Garden" artwork by Hiro Yamagata > Today I had the fortunate #opportunity to meet Yamagata and listen to him talk about #art 🙏 #thanks to David & Nansi 💕 @davidcgallup_artist @nansijohnsonbielanski_artist inviting Yamagata to their studio 🎨 Hiro Yamagata began carefully sourcing Mercedes-Benz 200 A Cabriolets from around the world. He had them meticulously restored to concoursstandard then painted each one with the help of a team of artists in a series of brightly colored flora-and-fauna designs. In 1994 the cars were displayed in an exhibition called Earthly Paradise at LA’s Municipal Art Gallery, then the following year at the Venice Biennale. (at Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery)

'The Brook' oil on canvas by #artist John Singer Sargent - American painter  in the Collection of the Ormond Family > In a time when the art world focused, in turn, on #Impressionism #Fauvism and #Cubism - # Sargent practiced his own form of #Realism with bold #painterly style. During the greater part of Sargent's career, he created roughly 900 oil #paintings and more than 2,000 watercolors, as well as countless sketches and charcoal drawings. From 1907 on Sargent forsook #portrait painting and focused on #landscapes in his later years; he also sculpted later in life. It is in some of his late works where one senses Sargent painting most purely for himself. His watercolors, often of landscapes documenting his travels, were executed with a joyful fluidness. Kunkle > These days it’s a cherry on top when a #conceptual artist has #impeccable technical skills, and is able to play with various painting tools to alter the viewer’s state of mind. Artist Brad #Kunkle has this ability. There is quite a lot going on beneath the surface in each of his luscious paintings. He purposely uses a limited palette and overcast light source to flatten his imagery. 'The Sea B' #artist Emil Nolde (German #painter and printmaker, 1867-1956) He was one of the first #Expressionists , a member of Die Brücke, and is considered to be one of the great #colorists of the 20th century. He was born Emil Hansen, the son of a peasant family living in the #coastal Schleswig area of Germany near the Danish border. He trained as a woodcarver; & at age 21 moved to Munich to work carving ornamental furniture moldings. He taught crafts for 6 years at the #Museum of Industry & Trade in St. Gallen, Switzerland. He began to study #art full time in 1898, at age 31, which took him back to Munich & briefly to Paris & Copenhagen, where he discovered the art of Vincent Van Gogh. In 1942 Nolde wrote, "There is silver blue, sky blue and thunder blue. Every colour holds within it a soul, which makes me happy or repels me, and which acts as a stimulus. To a person who has no art in him, #colours are colours, tones tones...and that is all.
