Motivation Monday: CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY A lot of people face this issue when starting out their transformation journey. They lack consistency. When you're just starting, things might seem difficult, not too much positive motivation around. Not too many people around to encourage you, it might be painful in the beginning, you might feel sore the next morning, and the next, and the next. But remember this- You did not get fat in a week, so you will not get rid of fat in a week! Your body shows results in a progressive fashion. What I mean by that is unless you keep going, you will not achieve what you want to achieve. Progress is what brings us results and if done correctly and strategically, those results are a success! Just keep going, no matter what, no matter how difficult it becomes. Trust me, it's all worth it! We all know losing fat can be a horrendous task if done improperly. People all over the world struggle not just to lose excessive fat and/or weight, but to stay that way. Why is it so difficult? Well let's start with the basics: 1.Your caloric deficit. If you're reading this term for the first time, not your fault. But if your trainer is reading this term for the first time, run! Well It simply means the amount of calories you need to shave off from your total daily required calories to induce fat loss. Too little may not give you the best results and too high of a deficit may not be good for your overall health. A good rule of thumb can be 10-15% drop. That can be a good start. If you feel like dropping some more, go ahead. Keep in mind not to go too low! Other factors like nutrient type and timing, different types of diets are relevant but that's another blog. 2. Re-feeds: or should I say Strategic Re-Feeds! When you're on caloric deficit for longer periods of time and/or when your deficits are big(20-25%), a time will come when your weight/fat loss will slow down, your energy levels will drop, your muscles will lack that fullness and you will basically feel like shit!! HORMONES!! Guys the big three are Insulin, Cortisol and Leptin. All three together with glucagon, ghrelin, sex and thyroid hormones control everything that happens in our bodies. Strategic re-feeds are a way to improve your leptin, ghrelin, insulin and thyroid hormone levels. Re-feeds allow you to consume upto maintenance calories once every 15-20 days mostly through carbohydrates. Also your dietary fat intake lowers down and protein stays the same. This gives a boost to your metabolic rate and improves satiety and hunger. This kick starts your fat loss and you get back on track!
