A GIANT WOOLLY MAMMOTH IS COMING TO THE WEST SIDE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starlight Studio and Art Gallery Artist Chace Lobley is embarking on a public art project that includes the building of a life-sized woolly mammoth in a lot on the West Side of Buffalo.
This sculpture is part of CEPA Gallery's West Side Lots Project, a series of temporary site-specific public art commissions that will transform vacant lots into vibrant, engaging, and interactive public displays through works from professional local, national, and international artists.
The project is a community effort, with donations coming from multiple sources. Carrie Marcotte, Program Director of Starlight Studio, “Woolly Mammoth is a collaborative effort between Starlight Studio, its artist Chace Lobley, and Jonathan Daley of Solid 716. Lobley has rendered a prehistoric Woolly Mammoth to be realized in full-scale with realistic texture and color. Daley will help fabricate the mammoth, made of light weight foam with a concrete outer shell, with Lobley on site.”
Once completed, the mammoth will be installed in a vacant parcel on Helen Street. CEPA Gallery’s other public art projects include a Meditative EnergyGarden unveiled in August, and Full Circle, a twist on the typical swing-set, which was unveiled last week on October 25th. Six projects are planned altogether.
For more information about the project, the artist, Chase Lobley or Starlight Studio and Art Gallery, please visit the Starlight website at www.starlightstudio.org! _____________________________________________________________________

Together We Can Carry the Weight.
CEPA Gallery is pleased to present Together We Can Carry the Weight, a solo exhibition by Buffalo-born and Brooklyn-based Zack Boehler at Big Orbit Project Space.
Presented as an open house for the Foundations Corporation -- a medical company specializing in large-scale weights attached to the body -- visitors will be exposed to an immersive experience that offers an alternative history to our own. Through large mixed media sculptures, video, and a series of documents, along with opening night performers, Boehler will create a world that offers a different view of the way class and economics effects the individual in modern society.
This multi-disciplinary installation, bordering on immersive theatre, marks an important advancement in the artistic practice of Buffalo-born artist Zack Boehler. Come witness Big Orbit Project Space be transformed into an alternate universe that draws upon the dystopian sci-fi of Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, and Anthony Burgess, while also nodding to the cinematic tradition born out of this literary genre.
ABOUT: The Foundations Corporation, your partner in federally mandated appendages, is happy to announce an open exhibition to explore where we have been and where we are going. Public outcry has grown in the years since the 1976 Federal Department of Mandated Appendages announcement declaring the expiration of any exceptions to the Federal Mandated Appendages Act. We have been on a long road as a civilization since that time to understand how we can display our burden without further hindering our daily lives.
Since our establishment as the sole provider of appendages, we have worked hard to perfect the burden you must carry. Through expanded testing and screenings we have been able to more aptly determine each person’s encumbrance and properly enforce larger burdens on those deemed to carry it.
On November 4th, we would like to invite you to be our guest at Big Orbit, a CEPA Gallery project space, as we explore real appendages worn by citizens and unveil some of the new technologies in appendage design. We are very excited to announce that no longer will we need to carry oddly shaped and assembled appendages. Instead we have developed a cleaner production technique allowing individuals to have a much more simple design in their burden displays.
These new appendages are further enhanced with additional features to make your adherence to FDMA law simpler. Gone are the days when we need to wake up to strap bulky appendages to ourselves. Instead, new magnetic inserts will create seamless connections to the body, and connection via GPS systems will remove the need to watch the clock, as appendages will remain attached throughout all mandated hours of the day. These features will also help us as a society and the FDMA find and prosecute delinquents who prefer to demean the cooperative nature of our burdens and disregard FDMA law.
Please be our guest November 4th and help the Foundations Corporation streamline your future!
*This exhibition is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

Photographs taken by members of Buffalo's social justice community will be sold to raise funds for "Emerging Leaders", the cutting-edge leadership development program created by Open Buffalo to educate and empower local change-makers.
During the summer of 2016, Open Buffalo offered scholarships for a 6-week photography course thorugh CEPA Gallery. FLATSOTTER: LILY DALE @ B.O.
Big Orbit Gallery is pleased to present Lily Dale, an immersive installation created by FLATSITTER. The exhibition opens Friday, September 23, 2016 with a 5-hour durational music piece from Flatsitter featuring guest performances from: Jim Abramson, Kevin Cain, Bobby Griffiths, Shawn Lewis, and many more.
Tumblr media
Lily Dale by FLATSITTER is an exhibition that extrapolates an original virtual reality artwork based on the practice of spiritualism into three physical installation works by: Max Collins, David Mitchell, and Carlie Todoro-Rickus. The virtual reality experience utilizes: motion capture from movement artist Ginger Wagg, interviews with Lily Dale resident mediums, and a deck of hand-drawn tarot cards by artist Bobby Griffiths.
Tumblr media
Lily Dale is a small community located in Western New York that is home to over sixty people that believe they have the ability to commune with the dead. The community was founded in 1879 as a camp and meeting place for Spiritualists and Freethinkers. The ‘Guidelines for Spiritualism’ are posted on the wall of the Assembly Hall in downtown Lily Dale. Guideline #4 reads: “We Never Die”
Tumblr media
FLATSITTER is an interdisciplinary transient collaborative that incorporates video, software programming, performance and installation. Our artistic works nurture a perception of society, community and environment as interlocking parts of a creative experience and are exhibited in an array of formats, such as ephemeral web collections, live performances, site-specific installations, and live virtual reality experiences utilizing the Oculus Rift.
