Feral Frills (Dark/Poison) This Pokemon bears some resemblance to both Weavile and its ancient ancestor- Sneasler. Perhaps it’s an ancient common ancestor? It uses its sharp claws to overwhelm prey, and its vibrant-colored neck frills to intimidate enemies.

Iron Shears (Steel/Flying) This Pokemon bears some resemblance to both Scizor and its ancient ancestor- Kleavor. It’s possible that it was made with the purpose of trimming and maintaining care over hedges. Its wings are actually rockets that allows it to boost up into the air.

I’ve been in a sort of creative and artistic slump for a while, but just a few days ago I got the brilliant idea of ‘what if Weavile had a paradox form?’ And initially I was thinking of a giant prehistoric weasel but then realized ‘no- Paradox Pokemon aren’t natural and only exist thanks to the eldritch mind turtle. There’s no way a paradox Weavile would even remotely be based on a weasel, they made Suicune into a RAPTOR.’

And since I’m convinced Paradox Pokemon aren’t real, I thought of another thing that’s not real- that one acid-spitting dinosaur from Jurassic Park. And how Weavile has frills.

SO, Feral Frills was born in a sketch that I was so proud of I decided to color. And then re-color for the shiny. I know people have played around with the idea of past Paradox Weavile/Scizor and future Paradox Sneasler/Kleavor and I absolutely love all of those ideas. But I thought about how Iron Valiant is kind of a hybrid of mega Gardevoir and mega Gallade, and reasoned that if any of these lines had a paradox form, they’d probably be mishmashes of the modern Pokemon with their respective ancestors. But I still wanted them to primarily obviously more resemble the modern-day equivalent in terms of coloration and whatnot, because I was imagining ‘well what would happen if the crew (the player, Penny, Arven, and Nemona) came across this? How would they react?’

... Probably with a mental breakdown because I’m convinced Penny, Arven, and Nemona have never heard of or paid enough attention in history class to know what Sneasler and Kleavor even are. The only one who MIGHT have a chance of knowing what they are is Nemona, only because “oh damn I wanna fight them” until she’s informed they’re extinct. Then their entire existance just flies out the window to her.

And I think part of the ‘WTF-ery’ behind Paradox Pokemon is that they LOOK like familiar Pokemon, they just... are SOMETHING ELSE. So, Feral Frills and Iron Shears have the main colorations of Weavile and Scizor with some loose elements from Sneasler and Kleavor, like Frills’ gems or furry feet or feathery tufts at the elbows, or Shears’ eyebrows and segmented abdomen and saw shoulder-blades.

Speaking of Iron Shears, I wanted it to be able to form something like scissors to reference Scizor, but with one blade on each hand like Kleavor. Scissors cut paper, axes cut trees, leaves... are somewhere in-between that. So, I made it a futuristic gardening shear robot.

For the shinies, for Feral Frills, I wanted to highlight it being a hybrid of Weavile and Sneasler so I made its shiny just a mishmash of Hisuian Sneasel’s (I’m sorry but I hate shiny Sneasler) and Weavile’s shiny. Hence the yellow and pink feathers. Kinda reminds me of a fancy drink with grenadine in it.

And for Iron Shears, well, officially it would be just like all the other future Paradox shinies. But. I made a different version that would be more like how I would like it- and it was easier to make since, well, both shiny Kleavor and shiny Scizor are green. Even shiny mega Scizor is green, which, yes I did loosely incorporate elements of mega Scizor into the design as well.

As for the typing, for Feral Frills it was obvious- I wanted to make it a Dark and Poison type to pull from Weavile and Sneasler, and also still be an acid-spitting menace. For Iron Shears, it was a bit more difficult since Steel/Rock, drawing from Scizor and Kleavor, wouldn’t really work with my robotic hedge-trimmer idea, but... I remembered that Scyther is a Flying type. So I decided to go with Steel/Flying since it’s metallic and can fly all over- and I didn’t want it to be Bug type either since it’s more of a robot and less of an organic creature. So, Steel/Flying, it can hang out with Skarmory, Corviknight, and Celesteela. Feral Frills can chill with Skuntank, Drapion, Alolan Muk, and Overqwil as everyone questions this eldritch mind turtle-made unnatural abomination.

Anyways, again, sketches that I was so proud of I slightly cleaned up and ended up coloring. I’m proud of these. I love Feral Frills so much I wish it was in the game, and then I think about how it’s not and I weep. I hope y’all like it!

That's fine, no worries!

And thanks for making sure I'm okay with it first. I'd hate to say it but I'm not entirely sure if I'd feel comfortable with that- not that I find an issue with anyone creating pixel art or fanart or 3D models or anything on my designs, but that they're made free to use and that anyone can use them.

The thought just kind of makes me a bit nervous and I don't think I can agree to that in good conscience.

I don't know when exactly this was sent (Tumblr apparently never notified me when I got this ask, thanks Tumblr) but once I did see it, I had to take some time and think about it.

And my answer ultimately is no. Nothing against you or anyone personally, but I just don't feel comfortable with someone taking my designs and using them for their own projects. I'm not exactly proud of most of my designs anymore, either, but even then they still feel deeply personal to me and it wouldn't sit right with me if I said 'yeah sure go ahead.'

I don't think I'd feel the same if someone came up to me and asked, 'hey can you design this Fakemon I have an idea for because I can't draw?', but I know I can say for certain that I'm just not comfy with the idea of giving up my designs like that.

Also, if I gave permission for one person to use one of my designs in their projects, then that'd mean all of my designs can be used willy-nilly by anyone.

And I have future plans for a few of my designs on here, so that really would not be a good thing.

I just had a realization

So gen 9 is based on Spain...

And Legends: Arceus shows that the creators have CLEARLY recognized Spheal as a fan-favorite. (With one quest centered around Spheal rolling down hills and Spheal randomly showing up in a cutscene with Adaman)

So I thought ‘omg what if Spheal gets a regional variant in gen 9, ah there’s so many possibilities and different kinds of seals like ribbon seals and ringed seals and hooded seals, but I wonder what seals specifically live in Spain’...

This was just for fun but I wanted to have a go at an Irida redesign! Maybe this could be her when she’s older, bc it’s implied various times that she’s newer to being a clan leader than Adaman. After more experience I think she’d parallel him and be more put together.

Again- I don’t hate her- I just feel like she had more potential and looks a little all over the place. Her outfit needed a bit of help… like the floaties needed to go lol. Alright Peculiar your character design passion is showing, get back in the box.

I DID IT AGAIN

I think I said I wasn’t going to do Sneasler because I actually really like Sneasler but the more I stared at it the more I thought ‘but... what if I could improve upon it...?’

So I did that instead of Goodra.

Goodra is hard anyways. And it’s not even related to Weavile, either.

I really enjoyed how Hisuian Sneasel had more splotchy, splatter-y-esque facial and claw markings, because Sneasel has kinda jagged pointy markings because it’s an Ice type and is aggressive, while Hisuian Sneasel has the splotches because it’s a Poison type and is (allegedly) passive and I really loved how the contrast in their behaviors is shown in their designs. (Even though Hisuian Sneasel charges at you on sight just like normal Sneasel but in my mind, in my headcanon, my delusional little world where Hisuian Arcanine has curly fur and jade orbs, Hisuian Sneasel does NOT charge at you on sight-)

But then it’s kind of taken away with Sneasler. And I kinda wanted them to keep the splotchy motif. So I incorporated that into my design and added some spots as well for some flair and also because ngl I love snow leopards and I felt like it would’ve been cool if Sneasler also had a snow leopard motif. I mean it already has white fur and darker spots, like why not?

This is also why I gave it a long tail, snow leopards have long tails to maintain balance while running and climbing and chasing after prey on steep cliffs and it just felt kinda weird to me that Sneasler just has... a little nub.

ALSO Sneasler being noted as being solitary, like this solitary mountain climber that’s vaguely cat-like also kind of fueled my desire to make it snow leopard-themed.

I kept the claw highlights the same, I considered removing them because Sneasler already has more colors than Weavile and I kinda wanted them to have an even amount of colors, but after consulting with two close friends of mine they insisted I should keep them and I’m glad I listened to them because they look good.

Sneasler’s shiny, I gave it a drastic redesign because... oh man.

If there’s one thing that’s consistent about Sneasel’s line, it’s that the pre-evolution has a better shiny than its evolutions do. I also had to fight so fucking hard to NOT make its shiny be the original color palette of Sneasel’s Gold/Silver sprite. I love it so much but I fought so hard to not make it be that and to stick with Hisuian Sneasler’s shiny.

ALSO my version of shiny Sneasler can be seen as kinda like a black panther? Maybe? Kinda? Because a black panther refers to any melanistic cat from the Panthera genus and also the snow leopard isn’t stuck in its own genus anymore, it’s in the Panthera family, so technically speaking-

Anyways, even though I really do like Sneasler, it was pretty fun to work on a redesign for her~ I already have a Hisuian Goodra redesign in the works but uh it’ll take a bit longer because I fully intend to redesign the full line (including Goomy, I’m making a Hisuian Goomy) and their changes will be... a lot more drastic than Sneasler’s or Hisuian Arcanine’s, so all that combined it’s gonna take a while.

Somehow I love how INCREDIBLY annoying Melli is but I feel like Adaman is slowly losing his braincells...

So I’m not... THAT PLEASED with Hisuian Arcanine... I love Hisuian Growlithe, but Arcanine just felt like a wasted opportunity...

And then I remembered I draw Fakemon so I gave a shot at redesigning them.

I like the Hisuian Arcanine design, but the colors is just.... NO, that dark gray everywhere doesn’t suit it well, and also I was hoping they’d continue the curly hair theme of Hisuian Growlithe, I wanted a big buff curly-haired maned dog.

Plus also Arcanine is based off of shisa dogs and komainu statues, and both of those have big curly locks and I wanted the locks to be continued.

I also wanted to incorporate some jade into the design because it was highly important in ancient Chinese culture, was considered lucky, and also a lot of statues were carved out of jade and I thought that was so cool. And part of me wanted to make all of H-Arcanine made of jade, but decided not to and instead stuck to just the claws, the orbs around the neck, and the eye color.

I considered doing a jade orb underneath H-Arcanine’s paw but a lot of people were already doing that and looking at a shishi statue, I noticed it had kind of bells around its neck. So I just kind of replaced the bells with jade orbs for my H-Arcanine redesign.

For the shiny form... I just like red jade and thought it looked really nice with the yellow color.

My redesign doesn’t evolve with a Fire Stone, instead a new evolution stone would be introduced called the Eternity Stone- which is a jade circle with a hollow middle, called that since jade in that symbol represents eternity, also Eternity Stone sounds badass aaaaand I feel like it puts H-Arcanine up to its representation as the “Legendary Pokemon”. Even though it isn’t really one.

I might do one or two more Hisuian redesigns, just specifically the ones I REALLY can’t stand (cough Goodra cough), or I might just do redesigns of Pokemon that never quite settled with me or light revamps of Pokemon that I do like but needed 1 or 2 extra things. I dunno! We’ll see. Just know I explicitly wanted to do H-Arcanine because it just.... it really bothered me.

I did my first ever commission! It was pretty fun, this one was an icon commission for Valentine’s Day for a good friend of mine, @typhonserpent

ALSO, I recently learned how to use BLENDING MODES and MULTIPLY and OVERLAY and all that good stuff, why did it take me so long to figure out it existed? It’s great. Clip Studio Paint is amazing!

Also also notice I got a little fancy with the roses and blurred them a bit since they’re in the foreground. I’m proud of that, too.

Point is, it was a pleasure to work on this and I enjoyed it a lot~ Maybe I’ll try more commissions in the future!

If you are American, PLEASE SUPPORT THE SSI RESTORATION ACT OF 2021

This new bill has been introduced in both the house and the Senate.

Among other things, it will:

Raise the monthly disability income by just over 30 percent - bringing it to poverty level.

Remove penalties for reviewing financial help from friends and family.

Increase the amount of assets a disabled personay have from $2,000 to $10,000 (this hasn't been updated since 1989)

Update outside income restrictions to allow disabled people to receive up to $399 a month without reducing their benefits.

REWARD, not penalize, people who want to receive additional income while on social security income.

REMOVE THE MARRIAGE BAN YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT THIS WILL REMOVE THE MARRIAGE BAN

For those unaware current regulations do a lot to oppress disabled people. In fact marriage equality doesn't even extend to disbled people who risk having their benefits reduced or outright taken away if they marry someone. This means that in common law states disabled people can't even live with their significant other or they risk losing their financial independence.

Current regulations mean that if you're disbled you can't have so much as one penny over $2,000 to your name. So buying a car and gaining more independence or freedom is largely out of the question for disabled people.

Current regulations penalize social security recipients who receive income from outside sources, even if those sources are reimbursement. Did you get paid to babysit for a few hours? That's income, and you get your benefits reduced. Did you loan a friend $10 and they pay you back? The government considers that $10 income, and you get your benefits reduced.

These aren't mere anecdotes - these are all examples of actual things that have happened to disbled people I know, and if you have any disabled friends in your life I'm sure they can tell you the same stories.

If you value marriage equality, if you value financial independence, if you value the rights of disbled people, please PLEASE support this bill! Contact your reps, vote, and make noise! This is a great thing!

Hey.

I know I haven’t really been active on here for a while, but things have been getting really busy and convoluted lately.

Not only in just my family life, but college has been a thing taking up my time, as well as things going on in my personal life.

I feel like whenever I try to make things better everything just falls apart and becomes worse.

I wish I knew when to keep my stupid mouth shut. I feel like all I’ve ever done is ruin everything.

I’m not going to be on for a while. And for that I mean a while longer than I’ve already been gone.

Everything’s fine. I’m okay, and I’m not going to do anything risky or harmful. I just need a break. A long break from everything going on and everything that I keep blaming myself for. Probably going to just lay in bed all day and try to figure out how to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under and Espana with my mom, nothing too serious or severe.

I don’t know when I’ll come back or if I will come back on here.

But it was a wonderful time regardless, and I thank you all.

I’m sorry for all my mistakes, and I’m sorry for not uploading as frequently as I should have.

Lycrilic- Smeargle redesign (for @frogcroaks contest)

Dex entries:

All Lycrilic pups are born with floppy ears, but as they mature, one ear will become upright. They secrete paint from their fur, and can change their color and typing.

Though highly creative and artistic, Lycrilics are notorious for having an issue of painting on anything they find- your walls, the couch, an ancient artifact, a priceless sculpture, and other people and Pokemon.

In the wild they mark their territory with their own unique imagery painted all over the trees and rocks. Territorial fights between packs consist of painting over one another’s work.

I’m sorry, Smeargle fans, please do not rip me to shreds-

I based my Smeargle redesign off of an African wild dog, also known as a “painted dog”. They really missed an opportunity here.

I also know it’s a big risk picking a single stage Pokemon to redesign. But also. I told myself ‘the 18 color variations will make up for it’. And also the fact that the redesign is based off a highly endangered animal that many people do not know about.

I don’t know if it made up for it but the point is I tried okay

Also yes, I did come up with different color combos for each and every type, and even included a few of Frogcroak’s Pokemon redesigns to interact with some of the Lycrilic variants. They change their type and color depending on what move they last used, because... I think it’d just be neat for my Smeargle redesign to come in multiple colors. I mean I love Alcremie. Minior looks cool. ... We don’t talk about the satanic butterfly.

I kept the beret because I had to look up why people associate artists with berets and found out ‘it’s because they’re poor’ and that is very much true today, so I kept the beret, but made it kinda... double as like... a paint... palette....

Lycrilic is a combination of ‘Lycaon’ (the genus name for the African wild dog, but also the African wild dog is the only living member in that genus soooo) and ‘acrylic’, because it’s a type of paint and it’s also the only one I know how to use.
