This video is response to much of the criticism and hate I’ve received since posting this tweet: https://twitter.com/RaquelWillis_/status/737182196839112704
“PSA: If you’re attracted to women, you’re attracted to trans women. Deal with it.”
I wanted to break down some of the ignorant responses + go deeper than what 140 characters and a gif would allow me to convey.

TW: Hate Crime Recovery Fund for Marquez
“On February 12, 2016, Jaya’s son Marquez was visiting a friend when they were brutally attacked and doused with a pot of boiling hot water while they lay sleeping. Their attacker has been charged with Aggrevated Battery. You see, Marquez and his friend were attacked simply because of who they love. Marquez suffered severe burns to his face, neck, arms, and back that required skin graft surgeory. I cannot mention the name of his friend to protect the privacy of his family. But I will tell you his burns were so extreme that he is still in an induced coma in intensive care. Their attacker is the boyfriend of Marquez’s friend’s mother. He didn’t fore warn them and there was no altercation before the incident. They had no idea of the hatred he held in his heart. It was a ruthless attack that no one deserves. After they were burned, their attacker forced them out of the home, showing no remorse. They had to go door to door searching for help. The first doors they knocked on, the tenants would not help them. The family needs immediate help with medical bills, and the everyday expenses of recovery such as prescription drugs and dressings for the burns. I and the family will be so grateful for any donation your heart compels you to give. All donated funds will be used for medical bills, prescriptions, supplies, and everyday expenses such as rent and utilities. Marquez assisted his mother with home expenses. He had just started a new job, so he doesn’t have work benefits.”

Admitting Trans Students to Single-sex Colleges: Is Current Law on Their Side?
Back in 2012, Georgia resident Roddy Jacobson, enrolled at Mount Holyoke, a prestigious all-women’s college in South Hadley, Massachusetts. While there, Jacobson, who was assigned female at birth, thought about transitioning to a male identity.
“I think I was dealing with interpersonal issues, and some of them were in relation to being at this ‘all-women’s environment’ and not feeling any connection to that identity beyond biological parts,” Jacobson says, later specifying the feelings as disillusionment. “My sophomore year I was approached by a few trans guys on campus and they invited me to some events. I got into the small trans circles on campus. I opened my mind up about my gender [identity] through that.” Read more.

Black Twitter Drags New Black Celebs
One of the first and most influential users of the tag, #BlackCelebsBeLike, was Zellie Imani, an activist and blogger behind the website black-culture. “The goal really was to challenge the pedestal we sometimes put celebrities on and not to allow media to use them as spokespersons for [all] black people,” he tells BBC Trending via email.
Imani mentioned the remarks by Common and Terrence Howard. “I was surprised that the hashtag took off so fast but i wasn’t surprised at how many people felt about the issue,” he says. “Celebrities experience racism and discrimination even when they are in denial of its existence. Denying racism doesn’t make it exist any less.”

If you don’t think the idea of a romantic Disney movie from a non-Jewish German director about Anne Frank growing up and falling in love with a Nazi Officer, only to die of mysterious causes at the age of 22 after briefly being paraded around Berlin as a novelty and example of a “Germanized Jew”, sounds to you like it would be in good taste, then maybe you should do some hard critical thinking about the Disney movie “Pocahontas” too, and any Pocahontas costumes. An example of a good response about cultural appropriation.
You're very cool and all, I like + respect you, but your sugar skull makeup is kind of disrespectful to people's (mine included) culture. It has a cultural significance in some countries and it isn't really something to play with/make light of. I'm sure you're not doing it to disrespect anyone's culture, but I'm equally sure that you wouldn't want anyone appropriating your culture. Thanks. 💛 Not trying to be rude/mean with this message.
Hey! I am sincerely sorry if you feel I am being disrespectful! I appreciate all cultures and wouldn’t want anyone to feel I am disrespecting theirs. I want to apologize for taking it so lightly, I will keep this in mind for future reference. Thank you for stating your thoughts and letting me know how you felt!

There's only a few more days left to take the U.S. Trans Survey and it is of the utmost importance for all of those who identify under the trans umbrella, particularly people of color, genderqueer folk, nonbinary folk, those living with HIV, immigrants, those with disabilities and more to make their voices and experiences heard.
Hosted by the National Center for Transgender Equality, you can take the survey at ustranssurvey.org.
The survey deadline is Monday, Sept. 21.

Atlanta activists rally against anti-trans violence
ATLANTA - Nearly 100 LGBT activists rallied outside a MARTA station in downtown Atlanta on Tuesday, part of a national day of action to call attention to an epidemic of anti-trans violence.
The setting for the #BlackTransLivesMatter rally – on Peachtree Street outside entrances to Underground Atlanta and the Five Points MARTA station – was intentional. Organizers said transgender people face continued harassment on MARTA trains despite the transit agency pledging to protect trans riders in the wake of a brutal assault on two trans women in 2014.
The Atlanta rally was one of several across the country on what organizers called#TransLiberationTuesday. Events also took place in Nashville, Ohio, Chicago and Washington, D.C. A similar #BlackTransLivesMatter event is scheduled for Wednesday in Houston. Read more.

#TransLiberationTuesday (August 25) Masterpost
(Black Trans Flag by Raquel Willis) #BlackLivesMatter has consistently been supportive and in collaboration with black trans folks and especially with Black trans women. We have spent time developing principles, developing analysis, and creating deep practice that is full of love. There’s no action without practice. The time has come for us to practice what we have created. The time is now to resist in honor of Marsha P. Johnson. Islan Nettles. Cemia Dove. Amber Monroe. Penny Proud. Ashley Sherman and so many others. The time is now to join #BlackLivesMatter in action as we celebrate our sisters who are living- the very sisters who have fought next to us to sustain this declaration that has been heard around the world. Official Hashtags: #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter #TBackInBlack #AllOfUsOrNoneOfUs
Twitter Chat (12 PM EST): Led by Aaryn Lang & Alicia Garza
Selfie Campaign: Trans folks and cis allies to take selfies with a sign saying #BlackTransLivesMatter.
Youtube/Videos: Trans folks and cis allies to make videos discussing why #BlackTransLivesMatter. Trans folks would discuss personal experiences, if possible.
