Ive been focusing on making more on my illustration backgrounds. I literally make gradients on all my pieces and call it done lol. 😂 Used a reference for this one. I usually get lost in the details of everything, so simplified geometric shapes work best for me and my time lol. Since i just got back from NYC, i thought a cityscape would be lit. 🏙 #animation #illustration #scribbles #digitalpainting #gifs #fuckthecistem #planetabstractblack #practice

One of the things I try to make sure to call out is the harassment, mistreatment, and murder of trans people, especially black and brown trans women, femmes, and non-conforming folks. Although it is a growing crisis, not much light has been shed on this issue. I was listening to the #NeverBefore podcast with @JanetMock when she was interviewing @kingamiyahscott and she made the excellent point that trans women support Black movements, LGBTQ movements and women's movements, but who supports them? Please join me and many others tonight for #TransLiberationTuesday to support our trans brothers and sisters. It is not a singular movement, it is intersectional and we cannot ignore the the needs of the trans community or let the injustices done to them continue to be ignored. 2nd Annual Trans Liberation Tuesday Rally & Call to Action, organized by The Black Excellence Collective on July 25th at 6PM at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY (#📷 @blackboikei) #BlackTransLivesMatter #TransLiberationTuesday #NoJusticeNoPride #BlackLivesMatter #SayHerName #Resistance #theglamfemme http://ift.tt/2uu3xgl

Why Black Trans Liberation Tuesday Must Become an Annual Observance
This week marks one year since Black transgender activists in the United States organized Black Trans Liberation Tuesday. Held on Tuesday, August 25, the national day of action publicized Black trans experiences and memorialized 18 trans women, predominantly trans women of color, who had been murdered by this time last year.

Happy #TransLiberationTuesday, friends. Today we're honored to celebrate Ky Peterson, a young Black trans man incarcerated in Georgia for defending his own life. Please help us free Ky: bit.ly/Justice4Ky. In 2011, Ky was forced to defend himself against a transphobic sexual assault. Despite the fact that Georgia has a "Stand Your Ground" law, and that his rape kit tested positive, Ky was criminalized for being Black and trans. Instead of receiving care, he was arrested and held in jail for a year with no legal support or a trial. Finally Ky was pressured into taking a plea deal. He was sentenced to TWENTY YEARS in prison...for defending his own life. Treatment of Georgia trans prisoners is so inhumane that the state Dept of Corrections is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. For the first 5 years, Ky didn't receive any transition-related medical care, and he continues to suffer dehumanizing treatment from prison staff for being openly trans. Follow #Justice4Ky and #SurvivedandPunished on twitter today, and read more about Ky's case at http://bit.ly/1E6n1qb. Special thanks to Ky's partner & tireless advocate Pinky Shear <3 [visual description: pencil and watercolor portrait of a young Black trans man in a white t-shirt, against a dark blue background. Text reads: "Ky Peterson, a young Black trans man in rural Georgia, was arrested for defending himself during a transphobic sexual assault. After a year in jail with no legal support or trial, he was forced to take a plea deal. Ky was sentenced to 20 years in prison. FREE KY."]

They are going to launch a Kickstarter in the next couple of days , so this is a save the date and your $$$ to celebrate and support a tremendous project. From one cultural worker to another shout outs to @micahbazant And their powerful project #transliberationtuesday !!! ・・・ Repost " Friends - for the past 15 weeks I've been creating or supporting the creation of one or more collaborative portrait per week - phew! And there are so many more in the works AND we'll be launching a kickstarter this week, so we can pay even more participants and artists. deep breath. I'm taking a moment to pause and appreciate. No new portrait this week—instead here's a look at everything so far. I can't even explain how many messages, texts, emails, phone calls and meetings go into making most of these portraits happen. And how many amazing people across the country have taken the time to work on this. Too many to list in a FB post. You know who you are. Thank you glittery stars for being alive and fighting together to get free. " - @translifeandliberation #qtpoc #art4 #art #socialjustice

#Repost @transliberationtuesdayart ・・・ Happy #TransLiberationTuesday! At least once a month this project features a guest star trans artist. Today welcome @noahmilanjenkins, a 19 year old self-taught artist, with a self-portrait! 💖 "Resistance, in a world where deviation from the mainstream can mean death, is a courageous act. To stand up and say, "This is who I am." is one of the most noble actions a person can take, one that can drastically change their life forever - for better or for worse. It is a powerful, unwavering declaration that your identity is beautiful and deserving of respect. I resist letting my heart grow cold in a society that would see me and my family erased if they had a choice. I resist hating those who hate me just because it's easy or justifiable. I resist any shame towards myself or my depression and anxiety. I resist rejecting these parts of me when society does. I will love myself. Unapologetically." Noah Jenkins is a trans and queer youth of color who is pursuing a degree in Sociology to further his knowledge and activism. He uses his passion for the visual arts to spread messages of love, solidarity, and pride. Noah is also available for commissions! Contact him at [email protected] or browse his art at artwrecked.storenvy.com.

The first Trans Liberation Tuesday was February 10, 2015, when transgender women of color led a march and die-in at San Francisco City Hall. Friends, advocates, and allies were seeking a cathartic response to the murder of Taja DeJesus, a beloved member of the local LGBT community who became the fourth trans woman of color killed in less than a month.
Activists at the first #TransLiberationTuesday action called for an end to anti-trans violence, better and more accessible support for transgender residents, and more safe, affordable housing. The action was channelled into a social media hashtag for nationwide calls to action by Danielle Marilyn West and Janetta Johnson, Bay Area-based organizers with the TGI Justice Project, according to the “Herstory” of the campaign as listed on the Facebook page for the Trans Liberation Tuesday Art Series. “The #TransLiberationTuesday art series aims to amplify and celebrate this liberation struggle,” writes artist Micah Bazant.
Bazant is a queer artist who lives in Berkeley, Calif., and identifies as trans, gender-nonconforming, and timtum (one of six traditional Jewish genders). The artist uses the gender-neutral pronoun they and them, and proudly works with trans people across the U.S. in their ongoing illustration series.
“Art is a powerful way to honor and celebrate people, and to change the story,” Bazant tells The Advocate.“Trans women of color aren't just victims — they are leaders, artists, and freedom fighters. And we need their leadership to make the world a more safe place for everyone.”

#Repost @micahbazant ・・・ Happy #TransLiberationTuesday! This week's #TLT portrait is of Isa Noyola - translatina activist, national leader in the LGBT immigrant rights movement, and director of programs at @TransLawCenter. Isa works tirelessly for the release of transgender women from ICE detention and an end to deportations! “My decision to do this work was not a career choice but a matter of survival, and I am committed to picking up the torch that has been violently taken away from my sisters.” "We have for many years waited for people to get it together and develop a language and consciousness around trans communities, and we no longer can wait. We no longer can wait for other people to get it together. We are demanding an acknowledgement. We want total liberation." Isa also works with #Not1more, El/La Para Trans Latinas , @familiatqlm and TAJA's Coalition. I love her quote. To me it sums up why we can't have trans justice without racial justice, why we can't have liberation movements without art, and why we must bring our full selves into the new worlds we're building together.
