March 2018 Book Recap
This month (like most months, honestly) I was not able to read very many books, only those I had to read for my college courses. However, one of those courses is Exploring Childhood Literature. In March, we read two books, This is Where it Ends by Marieke Nijkamp and Day of Tears by Julius Lester, and I thought I would post my thoughts about these books. These reviews are spoiler-free.
This is Where it Ends,  Marieke Nijkamp Rating: 2/5
When I read this novel, we were asked to view it from a teacher’s point of view, as well as a student’s point of view, to determine if this book is one that would be beneficial to teach in a middle/high school curriculum. With that in mind, I would say, sure, this book is a good one to teach if you are covering realistic fiction and want any book that fits that genre. It does capture the events of a school shooting, which is an important subject to talk about in today’s social climate. However, that’s pretty much where my love for this book stopped. That’s not to say it was bad; however, I felt as though it did not realistically depict all of the actions and emotions one might face during a traumatic event like a school shooting. I felt that a lot of the characters lacked emotional depth, and some of the events and actions character’s take in the novel did not make much sense.
Day of Tears, Julius Lester Rating: 3.5/5
Just like the previous book, we were asked to look at this book in terms of it’s educational value. This one I liked a lot better that This is Where it Ends, though it is an entirely different genre. This historical fiction would be a great addition to any classroom (of the appropriate age, of course) that is teaching about slavery in America. Based on the country’s largest slave auction, Lester does a great job at incorporating the factual with the fictional and offering different perspectives of characters from all walks of life. I thought this novel was done pretty well though it was geared toward a younger audience than myself. I thought some parts were a little cliche or dramatic, but it was overall a good book. It depicts a different side of slavery, and is not gory or overly violent. It will make you uncomfortable at times, but I think that’s the point. For my current tastes, it is not one that I would read again even though I did like it.

I created yet another bullet journal template, this time for the month of May. I found these flowers in one of my coloring books and fell in love. I had to recreate them! I’m looking forward to using a colored version that’s a bit more polished and clean looking with improved lettering for my May monthly spread when the time comes! • #bulletjournal #bujo #bulletjournalideas #bulletjournalidea #floral #flowers #bujomonthly #bujoinspo #bujomonthlyspread #bujoinspiration #monthlyspread #bujotemplate #hibiscus #bblogger #beautyblogger #fauxcalligraphy

Hey everyone! For my one and only New Years resolution, I decided to make an attempt at starting a bullet journal, especially because I will be a full time student while working full time this semester. This will be my first blown attempt, so I wanted to create some rough templates in a spare dot grid journal I had. I think my favorite so far is my Semester at a Glance page! These are my two currently favorites for my complexion base! I was surprised at how much I like these because I kind of rolled my eyes at another peach collection, but I really think @toofaced KILLED it with the primer and foundation from the Peaches & Cream collection. Keep reading the check out my review, and if you have any other suggestions of what I should try from the collection, feel free to drop them below!! 😊 The primer is a peach color but that doesn't translate onto the face, and it is very cooling (I put it on the back of my boyfriends hand and he wanted to put it all over, LOL).I found that it leaves me feeling hydrated but not greasy or overly moisturized even when used in combination with a priming moisturizer. I didn't feel dry or tight like some mattifying primers make me feel. The foundation lasts for HOURS. Seriously. I put this on in the morning at around 6am and by the time I'm done for the day at around 10:30 or 11:00 pm, it still looks flawless, like I just applied it. It even holds up well enough around my nose that I don't feel the need to touch up with a powder foundation throughout the day because of allergies like I do with every other foundation that I own. I feel as though I don't have to set this with a powder, either, but I do get oily so I always set my foundations with powder anyway. However, I find that I don't need nearly as much. My only complaint is that the lightest foundation color, Snow, is still too dark for me by about a shade to a shade and a half, and the shade range for this particular foundation is pretty poor. If they expanded to both lighter and darker shades I think it would be a total and complete win. These two products made me super interested in trying more from the collection, like the setting spray, setting powder, and the eye shadow palette. I think these are overall two of my favorite purchases this year and I'll be getting a lot of use out of them! These two are my favorites from my @tartecosmetics haul! The shadows in the eye and cheek palette are very blendable and flattering for my skin tone. My favorite way to wear this pallet is to put "glam girl" all over the lid and use "messy bun" or my bronzer to blend it into the crease, and then tap "posse" right on the center of the lid. I work in an office, so I don't go too crazy with the eye looks very often. This has the perfect amount of pigmentation and great everyday neutrals for my lifestyle! The blush is VERY pigmented to I use a very light hand but it is a gorgeous shade, and I don't think it's too much on my very fair skin tone. It blends really easily and has a bit of shine to it, so if I'm in a super big rush, I don't have to apply highlight and I don't feel like something's missing from my face. The lip tint is perfect! Online, it's described as a nude color, but in person it is WAY more orange/peach than I originally thought. But I actually think it's really beautiful and great for everyday because its not too pigmented. It gives a wonderful wash of color and is very comfortable on the lips. I find that the color does last quite a while, but it isn't long wear by any means. This guy basically lives in my purse. I think this color pairs perfectly with the eyeshadow palette, so they have become everyday staples in my routine.
