aug 8 2024 – thursday
academic weapon challenge – day 2
what i thought was my "seasonal allergies" turned out to be full-scale pneumonia... which gives me a LOT of time to rest at home! i'm still going to be doing this month's challenge, but it might look a little different than it normally would.
sleep: 8 hours, i'm debating getting an apple watch to pair with my phone so i can better track my sleep since there aren't any apps out there that are able to do it accurately. $190 isn't real easy to come by, but it's something to consider!
routine: i was thrown off quite a bit this morning with my urgent care visit, but i did manage to drink tea, have something light to eat, and take my vitamins. i also took some over-the-counter decongestant to help, and i'm on an antibiotic now :,)
deep focus: watched an art history lesson, because my pneumonia brain cannot handle any more latin structure *sob*
body: the best thing i can do for my body right now is to keep it fed and watered. and rested!! no strenuous activity for me today :(
reading: i finished "this is where it ends" and i will have a review coming soon!!
reflection: today has been a really good reminder to take breaks and recognize burnout. if you don't take time to rest, your body will pick a time for you, and it will almost always be the most inconvenient time.
take care of yourselves !! <3

You're the best thing that ever happened to me
You showed me what true love shouldn't be
I found myself the second I gave up on us

JOMP BPC - April 19th - Ended Badly
my favourite form of storytelling are stories where you know it’s going to end in tragedy but the journey to how things play out is what makes the story worth telling 💙

I like to read books. And I read quite a lot of books, I think. In the Past year, I read a total of 123 full length books, and so I decided to pick my top 10 and write them down, in case anyone wants recommendations. I would do at least some research on all of these before reading, because most of them contain topics that could be very triggering.
The Girl In The Castle by James Patterson.
This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
We Are Not From Here by Jenny Torres Sanchez
Loveless by Alice Oseman
We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
Kaleidoscope by Brian Selznick
One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
Odd One Out by Nic Stone
Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
I also read a few graphic novels and my favorite was Long Way Down: The Graphic Novel by Jason Reynolds, Illustrated by Danica Novgorodoff(I would also recommend the novel, but I couldn't put it on the list as I did not read it in 2023).
My favorite poetry book I read was The Surrender Tree: Poems of Cuba’s Struggle for Freedom by Margarita Engle.

Hawkeye: Kate Bishop  |  November 2021
Marieke Nijkamp (W), Enid Balám (A), Jahnoy Lindsay (CA)
Hawkeye: Kate Bishop picks up with Kate ready to leave her crime-fighting life in Los Angeles. “She’s racked up quite a bit of experience running a very successful and definitely-very-legal-and-licensed private eye business,” Nijkamp shares, adding, “She’s revamped the West Coast Avengers.” Now, Kate, who has been “living her best Hawkeye life,” returns to her hometown of New York when she’s invited to a “weird, murderous fancy resort,” aka Resort Chapiteau, to “solve a mysterious jewel heist.”
Nijkamp promises that you can jump in the series without any Hawkeye — or even Avengers — comic background, saying, “Because Kate’s story is in flux right now, it’s the perfect time to jump on board for the adventure.” They add, “You don’t need to know where she was to enjoy the journey” and that longtime Hawkeye fans would definitely enjoy the series as well.

If my mom sees a significant amount of blood she gets lightheaded, and has fainted on some occasions. Once it happened when we were kids, I wasn't there to witness it but I heard the story from my dad. Basically my brothers, around 7 or 8 at the time, were playing outside while my mom was making their lunch, and she accidentally cut her finger. It wasn't anything serious, but it drew a fair bit of blood and she passed out. My dad saw this and rushed over, but he didn't really know what to do so he just sort of started slapping her to wake her up (not recommended, but he had no idea and panicked)
At that exact moment my brothers both came in from playing, and all they saw was our mom unconscious on the floor and our dad slapping her. So, like, without even saying a word to each other they both just INSTANTLY start whaling on him, like, full blown attack mode to defend our mom. Which obviously didn't help the situation, but she did wake up and everything was fine.
Now our dad says that he's actually really glad they attacked him over what they thought was going on, because it means he raised good boys. And I still think that's true, they're very good boys.

[image id: a four-page comic. it is titled "immortality” after the poem by clare harner (more popularly known as “do not stand at my grave and weep”). the first page shows paleontologists digging up fossils at a dig. it reads, “do not stand at my grave and weep. i am not there. i do not sleep.” page two features several prehistoric creatures living in the wild. not featured but notable, each have modern descendants: horses, cetaceans, horsetail plants, and crocodilians. it reads, “i am a thousand winds that blow. i am the diamond glints on snow. i am the sunlight on ripened grain. i am the gentle autumn rain.” the third page shows archaeopteryx in the treetops and the skies, then a modern museum-goer reading the placard on a fossil display. it reads, “when you awaken in the morning’s hush, i am the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circled flight. i am the soft stars that shine at night. do not stand at my grave and cry.” the fourth page shows a chicken in a field. it reads, “i am not there. i did not die” / end id]
a comic i made in about 15 hours for my school’s comic anthology. the theme was “evolution”
