It's 1984, the last Pern story published was the novella Nerilka's Story, and every nerd's dream is suddenly achieved: the Dragonriders of Pern calendar is published!

Illustrated by Tim Hildebrandt, the calendar contained 14 illustrations including the cover and back page (which served as the centerfold). While wildly different to McCaffrey's descriptions, it's become something of a sought after collector's item, and depicts a few locations and scenes not otherwise depicted in official material at the time.

All the images below are sourced from either Tim's Facebook page, Pinterest, or the site Horsemen of Pern, Materials (Всадники Перна. Материалы) (link here). In the actual calendar they all had the border seen in 'F'lar Fights Fax', but I chose the clearest images I could find rather than show you them in their full bordered glory.

There are good things left in the world

Today I went grocery shopping, and I got enough food to make meals for a few weeks, particularly ones I can freeze for even longer than that, because I will be here to eat them.

Today a guy at the dairy section of the grocery store turned to me and said "is half and half cream? I want to put some cream in my oatmeal, but I've never bought cream before." I said I didn't know, and we looked it up on my phone together. It turns out, it's half cream, half milk. He was very happy about this.

Today at the grocery store, I rounded a corner into an aisle and an older lady had to play dodgecarts with me. We both smiled and apologized for the confusion. After I had grabbed what I needed from the aisle, I realized I forgot something in the previous aisle, and when I rounded the corner, there she was again! We laughed and said "Hello again!" like friends.

Today I cleaned the roach bin and Bug "helped" me by eating some of them. She screamed with delight. So did Eris when I brought her a few as well, later. Bug sat on my legs for an hour afterwards and preened.

Today I put in some work on my peafowl genetics site, and I'm proud of how it's coming along. I only have a few pages left!

DATV has barely been out a week and people are already arguing over if it's better/worse than BG3 but I'm just out here saying 'yay two cakes' because now I have TWO graveyard dates to go on, TWO gentleman professors of magic to romance, TWO elven hunks who love animals to tenderly gaze into the eyes of. I can pet the owlbear cub AND I can pet Assan. I'm sandwiched between Taash and Karlach's abs as I speak.

Somehow he still seems to enjoy basking in the sunlight and the quiet busyness of the birds and butterflies. They say necromancy is a dark art, but whoever reanimated the beast of the black swamp knew what they were doing.

The horns of the queen were inspired by Sol Regem from The Dragon Prince because I love his appearance a lot. The bronze was inspired by Meleys from House of the Dragon. The brown was inspired by Chris S. Baily's design, and the blue by @ranticore's. The design for the green just kind of happened by accident.
