Good News! He's not the main protagonist, Lessa is and she is much better. Also the dragons are much better, the dragons are the best part actually. If you get past this book and want an even better protagonist Menolly in the Harper Hall trilogy is Best Girl.
The bad news, while DRoP was revolutionary when it first came out. Because it had a powerful female lead in an era where most women in scifi were Sexy Lamps, and it also had gay secondary characters in later books in a time when people Did Not Talk About Such Things™, it has aged in some very specific ways.
I believe @shipfishwrites has written multiple essay length break downs on the various bits of fuckery in the series. I highly recommend poking at their blog. It's a great example of how the fandom as a whole has chosen to handle the more problematic sides of the story.
As a side note the art in the fandom is absolutely top notch. I personally recommend @ewna-art if you like whers, @threadfall, @wyrmoftheweb, and @loartacc for dragons and @pearlescent--skies for people and fashion.
I started reading Dragonriders of Pern, and it's introduced such a compelling villain within the first few pages. It's too bad I'm almost certain this guy is meant to be a protagonist.

Exercises for all the homies who want to have a long career drawing.
The true problem with being an artist and drawing all day (as I wanted my whole life) is that human backs are not designed to hold that position, so it is very common for artists and designers to have really stiff shoulder blades, creating a chain of muscle strain towards the arm AND the back… and a lot of pain.
These are some physical exercises for artists and honestly anyone who works at a desk.

the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

every time I see someone online posting their knitting a little grandma who lives in my head wakes up and goes, "now what do you have there?", "Oh look at that, isn't that beautiful?", "now how on earth did you do that?", "well that's just absolutely gorgeous"

To add on to what the previous poster said. I have seen this first hand, when I was young a cougar moved into the forest by our house. The first sign any of us had that something was different up there?
People's outside cats started disappearing one after the other. It learned that cats were easy meals and behaved accordingly. No one knew what was happening to them until a neighbor happened to see it on her porch, just like in the video.
Moral of the story, keep your damned cats inside and stop feeding them to wildlife!

This isn't technically good news, but I wanted to highlight it, because it underscores a DEEPLY important thing to understand about the news and social media in their current forms: They are warping people's perception of reality. Bad news gets shared more, gets reported more, and gets highlighted more. People think that means there IS more bad news than good news, and that is simply not true. There are lots of good resources for finding good news, and you should seek it out for yourself to get a more accurate understanding of the world we all live in.

now that trump has tiktok, twitter, facebook and insta in his pocket, get ready for a massive wave of internet censorship. one of trump's greatest weapons has always been misinformation; it's going to become harder and harder to spread facts and criticism going forward. posts that aren't made invisible will be magically ignored by the algorithm. dissidents will have their accounts deleted and voices erased.
this is a suppression tactic. this is another stage of fascism.
