not understanding hidden meanings or underhanded messages or sarcasm and jokes that rely on tone of voice is literally one of the most common autistic traits that most people are aware of, so maybe y’all ableds can take a second to reconsider making fun of people for those things

the neurodivergent experience is thinking you’re sharing fun, interesting or helpful information in a normal human conversational fashion while they think you’re an asshole lecturing them or looking down at them like they’re stupid and also that no matter how many times you have this experience you always think you’re doing it the right way this time

People with ADHD don’t seem to know that Emotion Dysregulation is a part of ADHD.
They live their life thinking that they’re just overly sensitive, but you’re not! It’s part of your adhd!
I think that knowing what something is can help you feel better about it, because you know it’s not your fault.

Tics
Tics are a compulsive, repetitive sound or movement that’s often difficult to control.
They are caused by neurons firing at incorrect and inappropriate times. Often times, tics worsen with heightened emotions, lack of sleep, caffeine, etc.
Usually, they are onset in early years, generally about 5-7
There are motor tics, vocal/phonic tics, and tics of the mind/mental tics. These are then broken down further to simple vs. complex.
Simple Motor (very few muscle groups): head jerk, facial grimacing, eye rolling, clapping, finger flexing, muscle tightening, etc.
Complex Motor (many muscle groups): jumping, thrusting limbs, multiple tics in a sequence, bladder/bowel + stomach involved, etc.
Simple Vocal/Phonic: grunting, sniffing, coughing, snorting, squeaking, tongue clicking, etc.
Complex Vocal/Phonic: repeating others words, repeating own words, singing, immitating noises, change in voice/speech, etc.
Mental tics: intrusive thoughts, fears/phobias, obsessive thoughts, negative thinking, random phrases and words, etc.

Do you know what really gets me about inspiration porn?
It’s not the fact that we’re being exploited. I mean, that’s a huge part of it, but that’s not the biggest reason it’s so horrible.
It’s the fact that…nobody would have to go to the extra mile to do the things for disabled people if abled people would just treat us equally from the start.
Like when you see stories about disabled college students who beat the odds despite an inaccessible campus or a special ed teacher who gets resources for her disabled students because nobody else did or a company that hires disabled employees who have been unemployed for years like we wouldn’t be in that situation if you just treated us like human beings from the beginning.
Abled people will literally take away all of our rights and then coo and squee when we fight to get them back, like we’re a goddamn competitive TV show.
“Congratulations, Becky, you’ve successfully gotten past the twelve chambers of internalized ableism. Let’s give her a hand, folks. Isn’t she adorable? Tune in next week when Becky tries tackling the stairs of injustice.”
Fucking abled people.

i’d like to take a moment for people who struggle with “scary” mental illnesses. psychosis, did, substance abuse, schizophrenia, aspd, paranoia, spd, etc. horror movies and bad jokes can portray such an ugly picture, but you are wonderful and so much more than what you deal with.

The brain is an organ. Mental illnesses are illnesses of that organ. Brain scans show that there is a physical difference between a healthy brain and a sick brain. Telling someone “You’re not really sick. It’s all in your head.” is like telling someone with asthma “It’s not real, it’s all in your lungs.” The brain is an organ that can malfunction as much as any other organ.

Hypervigilance can cause fatigue guys. PTSD can cause fatigue, anxiety and depression can cause fatigue, Bipolar can cause fatigue, any and all mental illnesses can.
Please understand if youre mentally ill and physically or emotionally fatigued, that is not you being lazy! It is your body and brain being tired of fighting your illness! You are tired because youve been fighting.
This struggle you are going through is real, please do not let yourself or anyone invalidate you further by saying youre lazy.

Reminder that “tard” and all variations of it (“fucktard,” “libtard,” etc) are literally just a “PC” way of calling someone a r*t*rd and I’d really appreciate it if my mutuals stopped putting words like that on my dashboard.

Listen, listen, here’s a thing… you don’t have to have ADHD in order to use ADHD life hacks if they will make your life easier. Executive Dysfunction, regarless of cause, is a mother fucker that will ruin your life and make you utterly miserable, so if something helps? Good! I am so glad for you! Please do the thing! Life is hard enough as it is without giving ourselves extra invisible hurdles to jump.
So if you’re struggling? Please allow yourself to be kind to yourself. You deserve it, no matter what society may have conditioned you to think. You are allowed to not always be struggling. You are allowed to rest, and make things in your life easier. It’s not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of self care and adaptivbility, and those things are to always be commended.
