Nutrek has a received a lot of criticism but you have to admit the newer shows have done a much better job of showing more female characters, a wider range of female characters, and more women in leadership. And I’d say more positive women in leadership. We saw a lot of antagonist female admirals in the 90’s. If I had made this poll in 2005, most of the options would be characters we only saw for an episode, or brief scenes.

Another reason to have more women not just in the workplace but in the leadership roles in the workplace
Tumblr media
If you want a fairer pay packet, you have a better chance of getting it with a female manager, according to new research.
When given the task of deciding how much to compensate employees for a set task, male managers chose to keep more for themselves than their female counterparts, according to the findings of researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
“Various studies observe that women make more selfless and moral decisions than men,” political economy researcher and the report’s author, Nora Szech, said on Thursday. “However, we were shocked at how drastic the discrepancy was here.”
The study found that both male and female managers took advantage of opportunities to enrich themselves by paying lower wages, when circumstances allowed this. But women were in general less likely “to be selfish” than men and generally awarded about 13% more than managers on average, the research showed.
“Male managers react stronger to incentives schemes than females. Female managers exhibit a more consistent behavior which seems to be more robust to the opportunity to be selfish,” the study found.
The findings come as European countries tighten quotas for diversity in the boardroom, with the region’s largest economies all introducing some form of mandate to ensure women get at least a third of directorships. The policies target not only inequality within companies, but are intended to boost performance.

Definitely had one of those "being a woman in medical leadership" moments yesterday where I was called out for being too direct and aggressive for writing a pretty dispassionate email where I essentially said I wasn't going to cover for mistakes that my leadership made. Cherry on top was that this feedback was from a woman, who didn't have the balls to deliver it to me directly and instead had another woman serve as the go-between, because she felt like she was called out by me.
So I spent all of therapy today just ranting about my leadership and the lack of support that I feel from them and how I can't actually trust those people or be open with them about my feelings at work. That was a swift kick to the gut yesterday.
But I'm sure if I was a man I would have been told that I was being assertive and practicing good leadership skills.

HER STORY: Leaders in the Cause of Christ, Mary of Magdala, a Disciple of Jesus
Like the five men called to be disciples at the beginning of John's Gospel, and the woman at the well in Samaria in Chapter 4, Mary of Magdala's story includes all twelve elements unique to Jesus's call. #MaryMagdalene #John20 #WomanDisciple
Though Mary of Magdala is a well-known figure in the gospels, she is not introduced by name until Jesus’s crucifixion in John’s Gospel (John 19:25). John doesn’t explain who she is, or what her relationship is to Jesus or his family, but there she is, with John and Mary, Jesus’s mother. That alone says how important she was to Jesus’s inner circle. In fact, Mary of Magdala is the only other…

Something that I absolutely *should* have seen coming - but didn't because I'm a goomba - is that becoming a woman supervisor in a massively male dominated work environment meant the young women will start coming to me with frankly shocking stories. I'm so glad I can provide that safe space in management they've needed, which I never had (second woman supervisor in 9 years, that women stepped down shortly after promoting; there are 13 other supervisors). I fought tooth and nail for this promotion for me, but I didn't realize until the first "hey can I talk to you about something?" today that it's accidentally going to be about way more than me. I am the only supervisor most of them have ever had that looks like them. Talk about stumbling your way into a responsibility. It's very sobering.

🖥️🖱️Software Engineer's Goals for a Long & Healthy Career 🌷
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've been wrestling with this question for a long time: what are my career goals?
the problem is, this question easily becomes, "what should my career goals be?" which is the wrong question to be asking.
the more people i meet through my work, the more i see what different lifestyles and goals look like, and the more i'm able to crystallize my own ideal. this might change the more i learn, but for now, my main goal is to keep enjoying my chosen career path for a long time and here's how i'm going to do it:
🤗 be a people person
i'm an introvert-extrovert hybrid who can gain energy from both alone time and socializing, depending on the vibes, so i also want to improve my vibes that i give to people!
emulate the contagious positive attitudes of the mood-makers on my team — embrace the risk of awkward moments and silences, be curious! 😺
set up intros/catch-ups with coworkers again!! — i did this so much when i was starting out in my career that i think i burnt myself out a bit, but i want to slowly start back up again in a more sustainable way because there are some amazing people i've never reached out to because i've been too shy and now they've left the company, so i can't easily chat with them anymore 😭
improve my mentoring skills — i had such good mentors when i was starting out and continue to be positively influenced by my senior colleagues, and i want to be the same source of support for my juniors! 🙏
🤖 lead more projects
from my past leadership experiences, i've been on the fence about whether i want this or not, honestly. "the responsible one" has been such a big part of my personality for so long that i feel like rebelling against it and trying to be responsible for as little as possible, but on the other hand, i also think it's a good kind of stress that i can grow from and that this is exactly the kind of skillset that will serve me well even if AI takes over my job someday.
❓ check assumptions — i tend to default to being a big picture person, but the big picture is made up of many minute details that are important to keep track of, so i want to get better at this. i know i can't think of everything, but i want to slowly become more observant and thorough 🔍
💬 improve my communication skills — i tend to get flustered when explaining technical details and sometimes even when i think of something, i hesitate to speak up. maybe this is more confidence than communication, but confidence is such a vague thing to try to improve on, communication is more concrete ☺️
🎧 treat coding time more sacredly
i start to get really stressed whenever i multitask, but i continue to do it because oftentimes it feels like it's the only way i'll manage to get anything done. still, i don't want to make it too much of a habit or i'll just keep burning out. i want to see if i can still be productive while doing one thing at a time.
🎶 put relaxing music on when coding
⌨️ consider blocking off focus time or at least setting a heads-down status on slack
📱 if someone messages you and it's not urgent, for the love of god, stop dropping everything to respond immediately and schedule it for later

Men in leadership can use their power to seduce women then leave them but a woman in leadership enjoying a night out with friends creates a controversy.
People posting pictures and videos of themselves partying online has become a political statement for some women.
In social media feeds, women are showing themselves dancing, singing or holding a drink to show their solidarity with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. She has been under public scrutiny after videos of her dancing and singing with friends circulated on the internet. Those videos were meant to be private, according to Marin.
"I have a family life, I have a work life and I have free time to spend with my friends. Pretty much the same as many people my age," Marin said, according to the Finnish outlet Yle.
Some criticized her behavior, questioning her maturity and competency. Others called for Marin to take a drug test, which she took on Friday in response to the criticism.
The reaction to Marin's behavior struck a particular chord for some women who feel that in both their personal life and in politics, they are held to an unfair standard.
At Alt for Damerne, a Danish weekly women's magazine, female employees compiled a montage of themselves dancing to show women supporting other women.
"Our first idea was to write a column or editorial but then we thought, let's do this with some kind of humor and show that we all have those clips on our camera roll that wasn't supposed to see the light of day," Editor-in-Chief Rikke Dal Støttrup told NPR.
Støttrup added that Marin's ordeal reminds her of the treatment of Helle Thorning-Schmidt, a former prime minister of Denmark who received criticism over her taste in designer clothes.
Rixt Van Dongera, a public affairs coordinator from the Netherlands, also posted a video of herself at the Lowlands Festival with the caption "#SolidaritywithSanna."
Tumblr media
"I wanted to support her and all our rights to be an individual next to her extremely busy job and have fun with her friends," she told NPR. "Dancing with your friends should be regarded as a great way to use your free time."
Marin, who is 36 years old, was elected in 2019 — becoming the country's youngest prime minister and the world's youngest serving prime minister.

HER STORY: Leaders in the Cause of Christ, The Samaritan Woman, A Disciple of Jesus
Take a close look at this woman, one who may not have been there for Christ's ascension (but, then again, she may have been, as Luke 8:3 indicates many women traveled with Jesus), who said yes to Jesus's call. #SamaritanWoman #WomanattheWell
There are twelve calling elements to Jesus’s call to discipleship and apostolic mission portrayed in the calling of Jesus’s first five disciples: Andrew, John, Peter, Phillip, and Nathanael. The synoptic gospels key in on twelve men, eleven of whom became apostles. But there were many more disciples than that, all told 120 women and men who received Jesus’s Great Commission and watched him ascend…
