more kaito factoids

squids are fast, and so is kai. he's very fast. not so much on land, he's pretty average with legs. but underwater? that's another story.

the spines along his tentacles are usually flexible, and actually kind of soft. but he can make them harder- and more dangerous if he wants.

kaito will ask before he feeds off of someone. unless he's really hungry, in which case he's pretty much an animal. he's going to hunt and find someone to feed off of. if he's starving, then it's very likely he's going to drain his victim completely. to avoid this, he keeps up with his hunger as much as he can.

the sun makes kai extremely uncomfortable. it wont kill him, but it hurts his eyes, and his skins burns very easily. being directly in the sun also makes him overheat more easily. so he wears enough clothing to cover 95% of his skin. and may even bring an umbrella out with him.

vampires have the ability to shapeshift, and kai does too. though it's very limited, in that he can turn into a human without the need of a potion.

again. he can change into a human without the need of a potion. so he learned how to walk all on his own.

NRC absolutely has a blood alternative available to kai. and he does drink it whenever he's hungry. but nothing beats the real thing. human blood really is much too rich to drink often. so kaito has asked any of the mer that attend the school for a taste before. with varying results...

kai is friends with rook. though it may not seem like it at times. their games seem quite dangerous; hunter vs prey sorts of games. but kai promises it's all in good fun-- and will reassure anyone who asks, that he likes rook very much! someone has to keep him on his toes, right?

he's got an admiration for vil that does not expand beyond appearance. otherwise just like epel, kai's opinion of him is very neutral.

sometimes, kai can display his bioluminescence in human form too. in his eyes, along his spine, in his ribs, and in his fingertips. as well as the mucous he can sometimes cough up if he's stressed enough. though thats...different.

he uses this for a lot of different reasons. most often it's an intimidation tactic, or to ward off anything that might try picking a fight. but he does sometimes use it to impress and even 'court' someone. like hey!! look how pretty i am heheh!

kai's high resistance to toxins is due to the fact...he needs to be able to eat from anything. now he has plenty of options, but most his life he had to eat whatever he could find. and in some cases all he could get his hands on were toxic fish and crustaceans. so, even though he cannot live off of regular food-- this means his resistances also carry into foods. it would take an incredibly specific kind of poison for kai to be put down. he can eat anything-- raw, cooked, hell he can eat expired food and probably be fine too. does it mean he likes the taste though? no. haha no kaito doesn't like the taste of old food-- or poison. and can actually taste poison when it's in another's blood.

kai does not know when he was born. he has a fairly rough idea on how old he is , but nothing exact. placing himself between 19 and 21. this is due to the fact he has been on his own since he was hatched. the deepest parts of the ocean are the most ruthless and unforgiving. a lot of sea life, mer included, need to be able to fend for themselves from an early age. so whenever kai is asked about their birthday, he does legitimately tell someone else to decide for him. like idk man!!! when do YOU think i was born?? if given a date though he'll stick to it.

the concept of birthdays is...strange to him. but not unwelcome! congrats, you've survived another year!! it's so silly, but really neat.he looooves recieving gifts, and rewards. so being given a day all to himself for being a year older...yeah, kai's gonna be really happy about it.
