fandom: ikemen vampire

summary: “Do not fall in love with anyone here,” Sebastian threatens, wiping a glass and carefully placing it to the side, to be moved to the cupboards a little bit down the hall.Written for Isaac week, day 4. Prompt: AU. Hanahaki AU. (AO3)
“Do not fall in love with anyone here,” Sebastian threatens, wiping a glass and carefully placing it to the side, to be moved to the cupboards a little bit down the hall.
She places her trembling hands in her lap: scared and her heart still throbbing in her chest. This place and this time suddenly don’t really feel like a dream anymore, the fear too real. Love is a concept that doesn’t fit in this image that she’s building of the inhabitants of Saint-Germain’s mansion, so his warning is hollow, empty.
“Why?” she still asks, dumbly.
Sebastian stops – and then slowly, he undoes his necktie and the first two buttons at the top of his shirt. With the downwards pull, she can see the small scar sitting at the base of his throat, nothing but a faint line, whiter than the rest of his skin. His finger is just delicately following the path of where there has once been a cut.
“You know what this is, right?”
She nods. It’s not proper to ask more about it, because what’s there left to be said, when you have given up all memories of a loved one for the chance to keep on living? When the flowers start growing in your chest alongside your love, there are only two choices, really: you’re either having your feelings reciprocated, or have them disappear forever, alongside your memories of the person you fell for. Sebastian chuckles, a dry little thing.
“This does not exist here yet.”

LMAOOO I laughed everytime she failed to seduce them! Yuki has got to be best one yet.
Hi! I don’t know if you are taking requests, and I am sorry in advance if you aren’t. But in case you are… how would the warlords react to a femme fatale MC? Like the ones you would see in one of those spy movies?
Hi Selena!  So sorry it took so long to get to this! Thank you for the ask! Femme fatales often have nefarious motives, so the question is, is the femme fatale there to spy on or maybe assassinate the LI, or is she willing to work with him…?
Sooooo…. We’re going to start with the moment MC…
… slides open the door to the room and poses, waiting for him to notice her. To see the dark red painted lips, the black kimono (with just a hint of depth to it created by artful embroidery) just hanging at the edge of her shoulders. If she takes a deep breath, the silky garment might just slither off her entirely. When he finally looks up, and sees her hovering there, his eyes wide, pupils darken, as she glides seductively to his desk, and…
Nobunaga – When he asks her if she wants to rule the world by his side, she replies, “That was my question for you.” He determines to conquer her through a game of Go. They… are still playing.
Masamune – Really isn’t sure what to do with her. She’s beautiful, and of course he flirts, but when she mentions she could use a new coat, and eyes Shogetsu meaningfully, he throws her out.
Hideyoshi –  “I don’t trust you.” She shrugs, borrows his pipe, and lights it, as she wordlessly blows a smoke ring in his face. “I’ll be watching you closely,” he says.
She smiles. “I hope so.” She sits on the desk and scoots closer to him. “This close? Take a look. Take a very good look.”
Mitsuhide – When he sees her, he laughs. “Nice try. But a snake cannot outsmart a kitsune.”
Ieyasu –  As soon as she walks through the door, he runs and locks himself in his panic room with his emotional support sourdough starter.
Mitsunari – He’s reading. She’s still posing in the doorway. She places on sexy foot on top of his papers. Without a pause, he reads around her foot. She gives up in disgust.
Keiji – He can’t figure out why she’s picked him.  Nega-Keiji mode activates and he is instantly suspicious. She caresses his biceps as a response, but he just picks her up and tosses her out.
Ranmaru – He offers to share his peach. She takes him up on the offer. They are not seen for weeks.
Kennyo – She’s trying to seduce him, but he keeps putting her on pause to rescue injured wildlife.
Motonari – He doesn’t like to be touched, doesn’t drink, and won’t eat any cooking but his own. But once he realizes she could be a partner in crime, they go on a Bonnie & Clyde style spree across Japan. Watch the world burn, baby, burn.
Kicho – Who do you think sent her to Azuchi in the first place?
Kenshin – Hey, as long as she can keep him stocked with sake and pickled plums… wait… why is she eyeing his bunnies and talking about their soft, pretty, warm fur?
Kanetsugu –  Looks up. Sees her. “Nope.” Slides the door shut in her face.
Shingen – Knows exactly what she is, what she wants, and why she is there before she is halfway across the room. Of the course of one long, passionate night, he convinces her to work for him.
Yoshimoto – She glides into the room… realizes he’s prettier than she is. Glides out.
Yukimura – Doesn’t matter. If female, then wild boar.
Sasuke – Tells her that he once wrote a paper on the role of the femme fatale in post-world war II noir cinema. MC: “So I won’t be able to seduce you?”
He thinks a moment. “I didn’t say that.”

[fic] a quiet glow
Tumblr media
a quiet glow
Ikemen Sengoku | Naoe Kanetsugu x Main Character!Reader | G | 1.3k words ao3 link
Making no sound Yet burning with love, Fireflies far More than chirping insects, Move me. —Minamoto no Shigeyuki
A/N: For @aquagirl1978 and @violettduchess's Summer Days Sultry Nights event. It's my first time participating in an event! :D The prompt I chose is fireflies and it's a Kanetsugu fluff fic. Dividers by saradika. Forgive the slightly anachronistic prose lol
Tumblr media
I haven’t seen fireflies since I was a child.
It had been a passing remark, a slide of fingers across the textured roll of fabric patterned with glowing fireflies. In your gaze an odd sheen flickered and faded – blinked away – that Kanetsugu caught, stole his steps and his attention. But you’d already moved on to the next item.
He lingered, however, arrested by this seemingly negligible thing, eyes falling upon the object in question – a column of benighted forest hue, spattered with yellow-green dots that counted as lights, nostalgic in a way that invited a quiet contemplation.
You hadn’t seen fireflies since you were a child.
Later, as he’d lay with you on the futon, your warmth seeping into his skin, Kanetsugu would dream of floating orbs amidst a beautiful night, playfully dancing, up and up and up.
Tumblr media
“Summer is upon us,” Sasuke said, falling into step beside him.
Kanetsugu ignored the man. He had just finished meeting with Lord Kenshin for an update about his territories and was on his way to the library when the ninja suddenly appeared.
It didn’t deter Sasuke at least. “Make sure your face is UV-protected.”
Not knowing what that meant, Kanetsugu continued walking.
But Sasuke kept on, unbothered by the lack of conversational reciprocation, “You’ve already done well with your body – covered and all that.” He glanced at Kanetsugu’s clothes, then hummed in thought. “I suppose it’s not that difficult to invent sunscreen …”
Kanetsugu let Sasuke talk some more.
“That reminds me – according to my calculations, it’s approximately three weeks from now that the Nigami Firefly Festival will begin.”
That rendered Kanetsugu pause.
He turned to Sasuke, felt his brows dip low. “What?”
“I once took my niece to a firefly viewing in Joetsu – which, by the way, is the future name of –”
“I see,” Kanetsugu interrupted. He pivoted to another hallway and left the ninja blinking, confused.
He’d forgo the library today, it seemed.
Tumblr media
Lord Kenshin ordered Kanetsugu to quell a minor rebellion three towns away. That required him to travel a week or two, depending on the size of the men and the number of horses his lord would allow him.
On the way to his destination, he and his men stopped by a village at the foot of a mountain to spend the night. The villagers were welcoming of them, having met Kanetsugu a year before in another mission. He was a familiar and memorable face, one that brought a delighted smile upon the village leader – and a score of young women.
“Lord Kanetsugu,” the leader greeted him warmly, “it is an honor to have you rest for the night in our humble village.”
They made him and his men a sumptuous dinner – rather, a feast – which he tried to refuse at first. But his companions stared at the offerings with great eagerness, so Kanetsugu relented with a condition or two.
In the middle of the meal a girl came up to him with large, trusting eyes and an enthusiastic smile, and told him, “There are pretty dancing lights outside!”
Food set aside, Kanetsugu permitted the child to lead him to the forest right outside the village. They walked for a while, the child never breaking pace, and before Kanetsugu questioned the girl’s knowledge of the area she skidded to a halt, spun around to grab Kanetsugu’s hand, and with a vibrating grin she proclaimed, “We’re here!”
Kanetsugu blinked and looked around, and found what the girl was talking about. He heard himself take a sharp inhale, his body frozen taut with a memory.
Moments later he patted the girl’s hand on his and murmured, “Thank you.”
As they stood there, an idea formed within Kanetsugu’s mind.
Tumblr media
“Clear your schedule for a week,” Kanetsugu announced right after coming back from his mission, opening the sliding door of his office with solid intent. “We will go somewhere.”
Perched at the center of the room, you paused from your work, wide-eyed surprise melting into excitement. The garment you’d been commissioned splayed on your lap like fishtail. “Oh! Is it a date?”
A barbed denial spiked through his mouth, but you’re blooming like an eager flower facing the sun, so he swallowed that reflex. Instead he answered, “Yes.”
Your smile rivaled the sun, your hands curling to form a heart. Kanetsugu squinted, and shifted his stance. “Then I’m looking forward to it!”
Kanetsugu exhaled, tamped down the rush of heat in his veins, and went back to work.
Tumblr media
The journey back to the village went faster than last time. The residents welcomed them again cordially, and you and Kanetsugu stayed there for a while before he took your hand and led you outside.
He remembered the directions the little girl took the first time. Night had arrived, the full moon illumining the leaves with its silver light. It was also a good time for stargazing, but Kanetsugu had another plan in mind.
“Where are we going?” you asked, your voice inquisitive, your hand kept warm in his.
When Kanetsugu peered at your expression, shafts of moonlight sliced through the canopy and grazed parts of your face, one iris aglow – a tenebrist diptych of curiosity. It made you seem ethereal, a part of the forest night’s wonder. Something translucent and could easily slip through fingers. Kanetsugu let out a quiet breath, returned his attention to the front, quelled the nervous pace of his heart.
He stopped all of a sudden, which elicited a sound from you, almost colliding with him. Still holding your hand, Kanetsugu whirled around, and the spill of moonlight shifted to illuminate your whole face.
“Watch,” he said.
And you studied your surroundings, waiting for anything. Then: one by one, in the near-complete darkness, they sprung to life. Fireflies. Little yellow-gold lights playfully whirling and twirling in the air. One brushed past Kanetsugu's nose and then flickered away, and your silverbell laughter filled the spattered night.
“They’re beautiful,” you tell Kanetsugu, the curve of your mouth soft and warm. You extended a hand, palm up, and one hovered for a couple of seconds then moved on. The look you gave him afterwards arrested him. “Thank you for taking me here.”
“After what you’d said before, I had to do something at the very least.”
There’s a puzzled silence, your head tilting in question.
“You haven’t seen fireflies since you were a child,” he elaborated.
It wasn’t immediate when you put the pieces together. But when you did, surprise rippled throughout your body, and Kanetsugu was tempted to push closed your gaping mouth.
“Did I say that?”
“Yes.”
“When?”
Kanetsugu sighed. “When you were perusing some fabrics in the market. There was one designed with fireflies, and you commented upon it.”
“Oh,” you said, dazed. “You remembered that? I didn’t!”
“Of course I remembered,” he said, tone almost offended. But then – a whisper: “I remember everything when it comes to you.”
It sounded like a confession, but you knew the depth of Kanetsugu’s love and devotion. Still – it felt embarrassing. Vulnerable, even.
Still.
“Kanetsugu,” you breathed. Like a prayer. Like a marvel. Like the hundreds of fireflies dancing around them.
Kanetsugu swallowed.
“I love you,” you said, impeccably, implacably, an arrow hitting dead center. “I love you so much, Kanetsugu.”
He exhaled a long breath. “I know. And I you.”
You smiled, and it was more radiant and more beautiful than the fireflies and the moon and the star-filled sky tonight. You stepped closer to Kanetsugu, wrapped your arms around him tight, and sighed happily. He reciprocated the act, his arms molding snugly across your back.
Around you the fireflies continued dancing, their lights burning brightly.

There's a rebellion happening, and your knight protects you.
A/N: My third contribution to @cy-inky’s one week challenge! This time it's Princess and Knight AU with the prompt "You have a good heart." Warning for angst and off-screen violence.
Divider by @/saradika.

Tumblr media

The thick walls don't prevent the noise outside from leaking in.
You're swathed in your blankets, fortified by your numerous pillows, arranged in such a way that they act as another wall between you and whatever is going on outside. Two hours earlier, somebody struck the bell that signaled of danger, and Kanetsugu immediately grabbed your arm and marched you into your room, instructing you to stay inside no matter what. Don't open this door, ignore everything outside, and wait for me, he had said, his voice edging into something frantic that you wanted to press him for more details.
But you didn't—just responded with a shaky nod, and Kanetsugu expired a shuddering breath and released you. Lock this door and never let anyone in.
And now, beating down the burgeoning signs of panic, you watch the door with hawkish focus, straining your ears for a familiar sound, tuning out the screaming and the clashing of blades.
A coup d'état, His Majesty once predicted. And it seems that the rebel faction has decided to enact their plans today. On your birthday, when the entire capital is in a celebratory mood and vulnerable to chaos and violence.
You bit your lip, tears stinging your eyes. Kanetsugu is out there, fighting, protecting you and the kingdom, and you're here, inside your chambers—helpless, useless, powerless.
The noise gradually stops—like candles snuffed out one by one. A scream, a fall, a scream, a fall, then metal footsteps, getting louder, getting closer.
And you should've feared the implication of the change, but you intimately recognize the cadence of those footsteps, the even rhythm and weight of each movement. You know who is coming to your room—to you.
Slowly, you disentwine yourself from the heavy fabrics, climb off your bed, and approach the door. You press your ear against the wall and silence greets you from the other side. Faintly: someone’s breathing.
“Kanetsugu?”
There's a moment when nothing answers, and your heart wants to drop from its place. But there's a ragged sigh, and a raspy voice: “It is finished, Your Highness.”
You flung open the door to find Kanetsugu standing before you, rigid as a statue, covered in blood. You refuse to look at the scene behind him and instead focus on your knight, on his pallid face, his heartbreakingly empty eyes.
“Oh, Kanetsugu, come here.” You place your hand over his and carefully pull him in. He follows wordlessly, like a marionette that needs puppeteering. The door closes with a soft click and you're sheltered from the outside world again.
You maneuver him to sit on the bed, heedless of the blood smearing your clothes, your skin. You cup Kanetsugu's face and smoothen his harsh expression.
“You have a good heart, Kanetsugu,” you remind him, “please don't forget that.”
His eyes meet yours, and they're still dull, replete with their usual vigor. You swallow the pain bursting out of your throat.
You kiss him, desperate, and pray for his return.

One thing that really gets my goat about how Sakura is written is that she does occasionally start to do something, but the narrative shuts her down. Like this:
Tumblr media
Sakura goes to leap into the arena to see Lee after his fight with Gaara. Kakashi shuts her down. Contrast this to the panels that immediately follow this one:
Tumblr media
Naruto does the exact same thing and no one bats an eye!
It’s not that I think characters shouldn’t be stopped from doing what they want— it’s just that when it’s a consistent pattern it makes reading about the character really frustrating. When Haku traps Sasuke in his mirror prison thing, Sakura hurls a kunai to help… and Kakashi tells her to guard Tazuna. She does this obediently for the rest of the fight, INCLUDING when she literally thinks Sasuke is dead (Tazuna has to offer to go to Sasuke with her to get her to move). Sakura’s willingness to do this is actually an interesting character trait, but because it’s couched in this weird lack of agency, it makes her seem complacent and cowardly, especially when the take away of a lot of fights seems to be “try no matter what.”
Here’s another example: in the first part of the chunin exam, they’re all told they can pick to answer a final question and risk being banned from promotion, OR they can back out now and take the exam again later. If Sakura were alone, she’d take the question because she’s confident in her abilities.
Tumblr media
However, she starts to raise her hand to back out because she wants to protect Naruto.
Tumblr media
She backs off when Naruto gives a speech about never giving up, even though her making them all back out is arguably the more mature choice (why would you drag a teammate along on a mission you know they’ll fail?). She also tries to pull them out of the prelim tournament because Sasuke needs urgent medical attention, and he shuts her down AGAIN. Like, looking at this with the wisdom of an adult, Sakura was definitely in the right there.
To be clear, I don’t mind Sakura being a cautious killjoy to Naruto’s “Believe it!” Shonen protag energy. It’s just that whenever she tries to exercise that caution, it gets shut down and that makes it seem like a negative trait to have. (Also: contrast this to Shikamaru being REWARDED for exercising caution and knowing when to back out). I’m not even arguing that the scenes I cited need to be changed, because they do character work for Naruto and Sasuke. I’m just saying that Sakura could have gotten a few more scenes where her choices were plot relevant, and she’d be a more fleshed out character.

Kyubei - Lie - 🥹
So I didn't mean for it to happen but this turned a bit angsty. Ah well. Kyubei really shouldn't lie! Approx. 900 words.
Kyubei kept his gaze on the floor, unwilling to look up and force himself to see her. If he did, he wasn’t sure he would be able to hide his feelings. This way, he could smile and pretend everything was fine. As long as he didn’t look up.
The chatelaine poked his shoulder. “Come on, Kyubei. I know something is up. And Mitsuhide won’t tell me anything!”
“Nothing is up. You’re imagining things.” He shrugged. “Lord Akechi is just trying to tease you again.”
She was quiet for a moment, her finger still lightly pressing into his shoulder. Then, “I don’t know if I believe you. It looks like you’re packing up and that’s not normal.”
Kyubei held in a sigh. She’d noticed the barren rooms in Akechi’s manor, the disappearance of most of his staff. It was all in preparation for what came next, his ‘betrayal’ of the Oda. But he couldn’t tell her any of that. “Just spring cleaning.”
“I don’t see anyone cleaning.” She grabbed his shoulder fully, as if to shake the truth from him. “Kyubei. Please.”
The plea in her voice brought his gaze up, reluctant and slow. Her eyes were wide with worry and he could see she’d been chewing on her lower lip. It was red and a little swollen. He wanted to pull her into his arms and tell her . . . what exactly? He wasn’t sure if the truth would be better than the kind lie.
“Tell me what’s going on.”
He sighed. “Nothing for you to worry about. Can you trust me that far?”
“I -” The chatelaine studied his expression, as if she might find the truth hidden there. “I trust you. It’s your boss that scares me.” She took his hand, holding onto it like a lifeline. “I know something big is happening and . . . I’m worried. For you.”
Kyubei felt his heart stutter at those last two words. A confession pushed against his clenched jaw. All the words he wanted to say piling up in his chest, making it hard to take a breath. He wanted to tell her what was about to happen. That he might have to go into exile. Or worse. And that he loved her.
But he knew such honesty would only hurt her more in the end. This way, she could go on with a smile on her face if he could not come back. Innocent of the crimes that would forever taint the Akechi name. Able to move on with her heart to another that was more worthy of love. Free from the bond those three little words would build between them. I love you.
“I am glad you trust me, at least,” Kyubei said finally. “You are right that Mitsuhide is up to something - but he always is.” He tried to smile at her and hoped it looked normal. “This is just part of another ploy. Nothing to worry about.”
“But -”
Kyubei squeezed her hand. “There is nothing for you to worry about,” he repeated.
She sighed and nodded. “Alright. Just . . .” The chatelaine stepped close and wrapped her arms around him in a tight, sudden hug. “Be careful.”
He stood stock still, too stunned by the unexpected embrace to do more than nod. She was pressed against him, every line of her connecting with his body. The feeling sent confused signals shooting through him. Heat like the summer sun, lightning shocks racing through his flesh. He needed to push her away and could not bear it if she let him go.
His arms chose the desires of his heart, and reached to hold her. Wrapping around her waist, palms flat against her back. Kyubei held her as if she were something precious and fragile, irrationally afraid that his touch might break her.
She looked at him with such affection. Her lips parted, leaning close enough to kiss. “Kyubei, I have a confession to make. While you are still here to listen. I lo-”
He stopped her words with the gentlest brush of a kiss across her lips. Even that, he thought, was too much. But it would be worse if she finished what she started to say. “Friends need not make confessions to each other.” The lie hurt them both. Cutting her in a moment of vulnerability and twisting his heart into a pained knot.
The chatelaine pushed away from him with a look of sharp grief. Her eyes were damp with an onrush of unshed tears. “Friends. Yes. Sorry.”
In that moment, Kyubei hated the life he’d chosen. The schemes and plotting, the endless deceit. He pushed away every good thing in his life to follow in the footsteps of his lord. And now he’d pushed away the best thing. Telling himself it was for her own good did not make the agony less.
“I will see you when I return,” he said, his words laced with heavy regret.
She nodded. Swallowed back her emotion. “When you come back, we need to talk.”
“Of course.” He tried for another smile. “There are things I want to say to you too.” If I come back, Kyubei thought. If I am not imprisoned or dead or exiled . . . if if if. The words felt like a lie.
The chatelaine reached for him again, her fingertips grazing his arm. Then she dropped her hand and fled his presence, her face in her hands.
Kyubei watched her go.
