Something about Jane Crocker and the myth of black excellence.

My thoughts are still kind of bare bones and disorganized so bear with me here (pun intended) but the condesce being coded as black to a degree and starting Betty Crocker on her own could be something that Jane admires about her and Betty Crocker as a whole. I think it’s pawssible to interpret it as falling into the myth of Black Excellence and/or Black Capitalism and Jane being a believer in it, the idea that black people can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and save the community by playing the game of capitalism. Since the condesce is proof to her that it was pawssible, even if it only really helped manifest wealth for Jane and ended up hurting people in the long run.

I DUNNO I JUST THINK ITS AN INTERESTING READ!!! And also a bit of why I purrsonally see her as black.

Maybe I’ve been too xitterbrained (because any discussion about race and/or ethnicity related topics and homestuck is godawful on that app) but whenever you talk about race related headcanons it feels more like ethnicities turn into stickers that you sort of just put onto characters and not much more than that (often without people thinking of the strange implications that may come with it.) Sure, you’re allowed to do whatever you want all that time but I would really like it if people put more thought into it!

I think there’s a lot of potentially intriguing headcanons ways to read a characters story putting them in the context of another race. I really enjoy African American John/June primarily because I think it would be neat to explore his story through the reading of him having the Upper Class Black Experience. I really like the Strilondes from the perspective of them being second generation immigrants but also heavily disconnected from their own cultures. Hell, even just headcanoning characters based on their regions is something I enjoy. (I.E; Dave being latino because of him being from Houston, making Jade Carribean due to her being on an island, making Rose Carribean as well due to her being from New York and the state having a lot of immigrants, et cetera, et cetera.)

but Some people don’t have any thoughts on it beyond “Roxy needs to be Black!”, “Making The Striders the Token White Boys Would Be Really Funny!”, or “Hussie Intended For Them To All Be White!” which drives me up a wall. I think that we could explore these characters in ways that don’t just fall into this and nothing else (or the people who are strangely defensive about reading them [especially the Striders] as anything but white.) and it would be awesome if more people did. Everyone get woker now!!!
