So, it’s been a few days since the ending of the Bad Batch season one, and I finally figured out why I hated the ending so much, and I think it might have been a flaw in the entire show, not just the ending.
There were themes of family throughout the series. We see this in Omega finding her family with the Bad Batch, and then finding a family with her. But one of the problems was that except for a few times, no one really mentioned Crosshair, someone they clearly considered family. There were no plot points of them arguing about going back for Crosshair, no expression of feelings about Crosshair literally trying to murder them on Bracca, it was almost like he had never been a part of their family.
Then, we get to the big reveal where Crosshair explains his chip had been removed, but he still wants to fight for the empire. This implies he either a) chose to try and murder his family on Bracca, or b) was forced to do that with the chip, but now that it’s removed he’s just perfectly fine with what he did on Bracca. Either way, that’s pretty messed up and goes directly against the themes of family throughout the rest of the show. And with the information that Crosshair was alright in trying to murder them, the rest of the Batch seems surprisingly unconcerned.
I think in general the show failed in showing emotions. There was no emotions when they left Crosshair behind, there was no emotions that the entirety of the clones are being forcibly controlled, there was no emotions form anyone when Kamino, their home, was destroyed.
Maybe it’s on me because my expectations were different from what the show was going for, but could you imagine the emotions in season 2 if Crosshair, instead of being indifferent about what he did, was horrified by it? If the reason he didn’t come back after the chip was removed was because he didn’t think he would be accepted back after what he did? And they spend season 2 trying to convince Crosshair that they don’t blame him, and still trust him?
I don’t know. I really feel like there was a lot of potential in the show and it was kind of a big let down in the end.

i will say the funniest thing i’ve ever fucking seen on a tv soap is when my mum was watching holby city (british medical drama) many many years ago and there was this one really arrogant anaesthetist and he was bragging about something or other while holding a charged defibrillator pad in each hand and triumphantly clapped them together and just straight up electrocuted himself and fucking died. it was supposed to be like a serious scene but nothing i’ve ever watched since has surpassed that level of comedy

Geralt meets Jaskier and is like *sniff sniff* ‘yeah this guy’s part elf, I’m not going to comment on this because it’s a very personal thing to bring up in mixed company and also none of my business’ & never once questions that Jaskier knows this bcos like, that’s the kind of thing people know about themselves, right? and it’s a touchy sort of subject so it’s understandable that Jaskier doesn’t really talk about it, w/e
& then years later Yennefer comments on how improbably youthful Jaskier is and Geralt’s like ‘yeah he’s part elf’ (cause like, we’re all ambiguously-human friends here, nbd)
but Jaskier is like ‘what the fuck? are you talking about?? no I’m not???’ and Geralt is like ‘…..fuck.’
