I once met an old man from a strange country, two minutes into the conversation he turns and says - "Why are you doing what you're doing? You should have been a philosopher!" - Then he turned and left.

The act of living is analogous to a baby learning to walk. The baby stumbles and falls, sometimes getting hurt and crying. But she never gives up saying, "Oh woe is me! I will never master the fine art of walking! I shall forever resign myself to crawling."

Perspective
There is a power each of us has. One that we can use to bring our entire life and the circumstances we face to our subjugation. Indeed, we can dominate life itself. No longer would we be enslaved by it; helpless and in chains. No longer would we have nought but to obey at the crack of its whip We can be the dominator and not the dominated What power is this? It is simply that of choosing our perspective. To perceive ourselves as grasshoppers facing a mighty giant Or as Davids about to take down Goliath To perceive that challenging circumstance as impossible Or as the greatest adventure of your life You choose what to see You choose how to perceive life And your choice will either bind you Or set you free

Perspective
It is ironic how your world view can change so drastically.
What one never paid mind to once can come to take an unusual pre-eminence in your life.
And things you once thought to be so important suddenly don't seem so any more.
This appears to be the way of life and growth.
It is a continuous process as you receive constant feedback from your own experience of living, and as you adjust your 'world view'.
You want, no you need, to frame the world right.
Otherwise, you are in a world of your own making, a dream world - whether a pleasant one or a nightmare, a bubble, that could be burst by the next experience you are about to have.

There are periods in life, few, usually far between each other, when one is forced to come to grips with radical, turbulent change. It is as though a hurricane out of nowhere sweeps through one’s life leaving the landscape radically altered. It will never go back to what it was ever again. The one sees utter destruction and weeps over past glory, refusing to let it go. The other surveys the scene, sheds a tear for the past, but sees the torn landscape for what it really is: a blank canvas, a new slate, and sets about making a new reality, more glorious than that which ever was.

Don't let life 'just happen', engage with it, make it happen. Don't let life dictate the terms, dictate the terms for your own life.

Quote
Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. If clouds are full of water, they pour rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie. Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
King Solomon (Ecc. 11:1-6)

"If you can't run, walk, if you can't walk, crawl, but by whatever means, just keep moving", someone said. Well, that's true. Unless just stopping will help your situation more than moving on: such as if you are struggling to move, in the wrong direction. Direction is more important than speed.

Sometimes the worst experiences in retrospect are those that lead to the best outcomes in the long run; the challenge is to stick it through and maintain that long term, big picture, perspective.

Life is like a river flowing gently upon the plains streaming Yet every so often finding Rapids and falls Strong and fierce raging. Yet after all the river still Flows ever so calm and still Till in sea glorious and wide It surrenders itself.
