A lowly mining robot born, like most of his people these days, without the ability to transform, seeks to be more. He drags his best friend on an adventure to find a missing artifact and restore the world’s diminished energy supply, risking their lives and jobs and uncovering a horrible hidden past their world has hidden.

I owe it to my sister and my brother in law to post that this was actually pretty good. The story is well written and solid, with both funny moments, fun action sequences, and relevant messages on oppressive, abusive governments and class systems. Really nice animation. All star cast. Predictable, but that’s not surprising for a prequel.

I have so many questions the Wicked movie doesn’t answer. If Elphaba and Galinda are the only ones studying sorcery does that mean everyone else is just taking normal ass classes?

If Morrible couldn’t help Elphaba control her powers and refused to teach people with untapped potential like Galinda, how many Ozians could have been great or even just mid sorcerers had they had better learning opportunities? Were they intentionally suppressing those people like they were the talking animals? Or did they just wrongly assume they were incapable? Or was Galinda just a rare exception? Or did seeing Elphaba taking control of her power give Glinda the faith she needed to unlock her own?
