Cursing Old Leaves

when I close my eyes

and attempt to sleep

thoughts of your grief

slaughter my sheep

cursing the fate

that kept us apart

cause I wasn't there

to comfort your heart

apologies falter

and crash to the floor

as if I were never

in your life before

and it doesn't matter

in the grand scheme of things

even if destiny's

destroyed both our wings

I've shed my own share

for the last several years

but I still will make room

if you'll give me your tears
