Project: Fantastic Wearable Devices
Main Concept and Coordination: Oğuz Turan Buruk - PhD Researcher Principal Investigator: Prof. Oğuzhan Özcan Team: İdil Bostan, İsmet Melih Özbeyli
Pen and Paper Role Playing Games (PnPRPG) are the games in which players assume the role of their avatar and played relying on verbal communications in a social environment usually without using any digital artifact. However, several research investigates the usage of computer-assisted devices in such social games which are not meant to be played by the support of technology. One of the technologies which is used in this area is wearable technologies. Therefore, in this study, we aim at understanding the ways to use the wearable devices in such gaming context to design and develop them.
The study is in the Game Design phase. The first step for comprehending the environment and devices’ role was conducting a participatory design workshop. 25 participants consisting PnPRPG Gamers, Game Masters, Cosplayers, Interaction Designers and Jewelry Designers took part in the workshop. Our workshop resulted in 5 different device concepts and our analysis on these devices are pending to be published. According to the results of this workshop we designed a new Game System with a code name WEARPG. You can keep scrolling for more details. We even tested this system with 15 players and got first insights. Our insights told us that it was not a bad job ;) You can read the results here. Moreover, now we have a working prototype. Very soon, you will see it in action. Wanna little sneak peek? Than go there!
