Was told today that all native cultures of the Americas are closed cultures. Was told a year or so ago all cultures or religions you aren’t welcomed into by an existing member makes you a colonizer. Was told few years ago that fantasy writing or art is all colonizer stuff. Was told warriors cats was an insult to Native American culture and cultural appropriation.

Was told braids were cultural appropriation, burning herbs was colonizer culture, wanting to learn about other cultures and religions is being a colonizer.

I was also told most cultures and religions would rather die out and be forgotten than let some colonizer learn about it.

But let me tell you this it is completely okay to learn about different cultures and traditions in a respectful way and for curiosity. Making fantasy stories inspired by indigenous cultures can be okay unless you specifically make it an insult on purpose which most people do not do. Understanding the difference between a real cultural and religious belief and a fantasy or fictional dramatization is completely different and perfectly okay.

If you aren’t going out of your way to be racist or an extremist you are completely fine. It’s completely okay to call your warriors cat ocs whatever you want unless you are going out of your way to insult real cultures because there is a massive difference between fiction and fantasy and being a colonizer. If you are making the distinction between real and fake it’s completely okay, it’s also completely okay to want to research and learn about new things from different cultures as long as you do so respectfully.

Don’t let some dumbass people stop you from enjoying fictional or fantasy content because it might be in any way similar to a real culture or religion because again there is a difference between real and fake that is unless a person is going way above and beyond or make sure you know their content is made purely to insult a real culture.

Just remember to respect fantasy and real life cultures as entirely separate entities.

It a huge slap to the face of all of the wonderfully talented artists and animators that have made the community what it is. Without such a strong fandom, they would not have the show to begin with. There is no excuse for greed.
