Epic, Vengeance saga. By now everyone has heard it, and if not, its available on Spotify and you should listen to it RIGHT NOW because its amazing.

During “Get in The Water” at the end of the song, we see in the official animating from Jorge during the livestream and we hear in the song, what seems to be the souls of all the people Odysseus has lost pulling him into the dark of the sea.

A lot of people have pointed out that this seems very out of character for the people who are pulling him down, and I agree wholeheartedly! Which is why I believe that the souls are more likely than not more of a representation of guilt as opposed to the actual souls of the people shown.

The characters pulling him down, namely his mother and Polites are characters that would certainly not try to pull Ody down, as they are some of his biggest supporters and love him dearly, and would not want to pull him down, but build him up.

We also hear the souls repeat the same lines from their respective songs, also implying that these are not actual conscious souls or beings, that they are simply a representation of Odysseus’s guilty conscious, repeating the final/most important words they spoke to him on repeat in his head.

Odysseus feels guilty of Polites’s death because his own kindness towards Polyphemus is what ultimately led to his demise, making “Open Arms” an almost mocking song, as all that Open Arms had brought Odysseus was more pain.

His mother repeating “waiting,” is pretty obvious, consumed by the guilt that he took too long, his mother dying, still waiting for him to return home.

For Eurylocus, his pain comes from knowing that he was right, he didn’t learn from some of his mistakes in time, trying to be too kind before learning ruthlessness.

I don’t believe that the souls shown in “Get in The Water” are actually the real Polites, Eurylocus, etc. They are representation of the guilt that Odysseus feels on his conscious for failing his loved ones, and it isn’t THEM pulling him down, but guilt tempting him to give up and submit to Poseidon and the abyss.
