Creating ‘Dramatic Decay’
The production of ‘Dramatic Decay’ has been very insightful to idea behind my technique. It has allowed to me to see how my use of watercolours have changed. The seemingly dainty and blurred puddles of watercolour that are no longer present in my recent works are a reflection that this style is no longer one I want to pursue. For instance, ‘Fuchsia Bloom’ and ‘Autumn Bouquet’ are examples of the dainty, illustrative collection which I haven’t been producing lately. The realistic style has overtaken, and it’s a nicer painting to accomplish. I enjoyed looking at the decayed yellow rose and seeing how I could make it look beautiful despite its rather depressing state – so of course this piece was very enjoyable and sobering at the same time.
The result is seasoned with the pepper of a black watercolour splash which finishes the piece off very nicely.
The choice to keep the stalks of a grey/green hue is due to the attention I want the roses to have. With pieces like these, less is more. An overly intricate piece would be damaging to its final presence.

The Drama In This Collection
The intention this week was to produce some beautiful watercolours of dead flowers and roses and this was partially manifested. However, as we got to the end of the week, I had created more acrylic based pieces than I expected. The watercolour pieces remained stagnant and my attempt to bring out the drama of Blossom into the summer’ had failed as far as watercolours were concerned. I had a week full of sketching, but I was even more eager to apply acrylic to canvas, and this is what I ran with. The result, many new pieces, including ‘Singing Rose’; an iridescent acrylic creation harnessing the colours of decay in a completely different light. The colours were singing. It reminded me of musicals and theatrics.
Blossom seems to be shifting into a completely new realm, and this is what the Summer is all about. The Blossom summer campaign looks to be taking shape. The heightened focus on citrus emphasises this idea of blooming nature. The iridescent colours are reminiscent of life at its peak, and the latter is being briefly forgotten. Colours are bouncing everywhere this week. Blue, hot pink and Green seem to be most dominant and there is a lack of strong reds and oranges.

Blossom
Blossom is a body of artwork that has been inspired by the shedding of flora and fauna over the autumn season. Categorised by crispy leaves and warm colour notes, Blossom takes these elements of autumn and puts an emphasis on the raw nature displayed so naturally around us . Here the limitations are boundless, as Blossom encompasses so much more than floral death. It embraces the blossoming of roses in glorified, thick colour, and channels dainty illustrations from new bloomers. Altogether it produces an album that gives us a chance to take a step back and appreciate the beauty.
It’s the beautiful life cycle that inspires this collection. Blossom is a study of how we feel about flowers and we allow it to make us feel. Nature surrounds us in our daily lives and sometimes we forget about its importance. Blossom is about exposing that raw side to the otherwise blissfully unaware soul who believes plants are just existing aimlessly. Consider this collection as an album of the daily lives of plants, living life at their peak and at their worst

Dark Ocean (2014)
This landscape piece I appropriately named Dark ocean represents the still ocean and its relationship with the sky. Throwing in a bit of red really elevated the blue shades in this piece and remains a firm favourite of mine.

The Magic Of Time
This is ‘ Vivid Skies’, a painting which is a part of the summer collection 2016. It has to be one of the few paintings which has led me to understand the work of contemporary art that exists today and it’s because of the underlining complexity of this piece. BARE WITH ME. I promise I won’t make art boring, just hear me out.
This painting closely resembles of the paintings called ‘Ambitious Skies’ which sold last year and similarly embodies the effortless, abstract, surge of colour in the sky.
Ambitious Skies was also another firm favourite and I believe it was down to the array of colours in the night skies which so obviously steers away from reality. Like taking Scotland’s aurora skies to a whole new level. That paint is pleasing to the eyes because it’s so captivating and touches upon a fantasy like world we would love to live in and can only do so through a medium, in this case a painted canvas. The uprising interest on abstract work and our ability to create that as opposed to centuries ago means we can appreciate the fantasy world in a clearer light. The beauty of the real world is stunning, but abstract paintings provide us with an insight, hope and even more mystery. I guess the name ‘Ambitious Skies’ is suited given the possibilities to do whatever you want with the medium of art and transforming that into a piece which illustrates and mirrors what the artist is trying to convey. Metaphorically you could imagine an artist painting a picture of himself painting. This is the idea I gather from that piece. Of course I’m not calling myself an Ambitious sky, I feel that abstract painting is one of the hardest things to get right because there are no limitations. Where do you stop and think ‘I’m Finished’? (Aside from the obvious). It took me a while to understand that practise where enough is enough. Lets not go into the whole ‘Less is more’ debate. I believe that Vivid Skies is almost a day version of ‘Ambitious Skies’. It’s so electric and fake and real at the same time.
You’re probably wondering where this magical aspect comes into play. Well… Vivid Skies, being very abstract never really felt right with me. If anything, I believe it went wrong, very very wrong. However I completed the painting and put it away to dry. I was at war with myself because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to enhance the painting anymore and fellow artists know you should NEVER throw away your artwork. I never saw the painting again till a fortnight later when I realised I’m in love with the piece. I really appreciated what I had produced. I don’t think the painting changed or discoloured at all, I just didn’t see the potential or any hope in its outcome! It was shocking as that has never happened to me before. Abstract landscapes are incredibly hazardous because of the amount of potential or creative input you have to invest in it. The end product, a seascape with a colourful sky and contrast is a simple idea in the grand scheme of things, but I really do believe it had enough fantasy to pass it off as a meaningful, mystery piece.
If you are interested in purchasing this piece, you can find the link below useful. Unfortunately Ambitious Sky was sold last year and is therefore unavailable now.

Welcome!
My name is Vivek Mandalia and this is my blog website where you can find the pieces of artwork that I produce. Art, painting in particular. is a huge hobby of mine which I have been passionate about for many years now. I have sold several pieces over the last 3 years and hope to sell many more to you lovely people. I am known for my landscapes and abstract pieces, which I really adore painting. Having travelled around many counties, I have allowed my journeys to inspire my work. On this blog, I intend to share all of my artwork, the progress and tell you about my inspirations which have allowed me to create the portfolio I own.
The displayed painting is one which I completed during the summer of 2016. I was inspired by a photograph that I found on the internet and warped it into my abstract style. I called it ‘The Pink Arctic’. What I just love about this painting is the colours I was able to create. Fuchsia and dark purple tones really elevated this scene against the paper-white snow and dark evergreen trees. It was a perfect marriage of colour and balance which screams through the canvas. Achieving this, in my opinion, can be a task and you won’t feel the excitement as I did when I finally got it right.
This painting remains a favourite, hence it’s evident prominence on this blog. This painting would make a great stand alone piece in any room, and isn't too big. Check out the details below.
