Expectations: the true slayer of happiness
We live in a world full of expectations; either we expect something from others or we fulfill someone else's expectations; in either case, we suffer. We expect people to be like us, to meet our desires and needs. It's human nature to expect our children to do well, our partners to be understanding and trusting, and if there's a mistake or when anyone fails to meet our expectations, we get hurt. What we don't realize is that people do not exist to meet our expectations. Will you be able to survive if you woke up one day and found everybody to be just like you? I mean, I can't live in a world where my clones are all over the place. There's this thing about happiness and expectations: if the people around you meet your needs, you're happy; if they don't, you're unhappy and hurt. This is why we deal with anger and fear because we stress when it comes to our feelings. When our goals do not meet reality, we may experience significant stress.
Expecting and being expected is the same as exploiting and being exploited.
I believe that the word expectation is the most greedy word because when someone fails to meet your needs, you are hurt, then who is to blame? they're Things turn out to be more along the lines of "I am suffering because of you, you are the cause of my suffering!" But you must know that you are causing yourself pain by claiming that you wanted more than the individual was capable of.
Another name for expectation is "indeterminate grower," because it grows indefinitely, just like a lizard. You will never reach the peak of someone's expectations and it never stops growing. "The more you want, the more disappointed you will be."
You must realize that while expecting is fine, but not everyone can meet your expectations. Learn to shift the focus from me, myself, my needs, and desires to YOU. That doesn't mean you have to meet their needs; it just means you have to stop asking unrealistic things and start showing love and gratitude to those around you; no one will stop you and the more you offer, the happier you will be. ACT WITHOUT EXPECTATIONS. Give it your best.
The expectation war does not stop here; we also want certain things from ourselves, and when we don't get them, we begin to hate and doubt ourselves, asking questions like "why am I like this?, why can't I do this?, why did I rank less?" An individual should only do things that are within his or her capabilities. You can extend your abilities to do anything to a certain degree, but you cannot claim to do things that are not within your capability. I'm not saying don't try or just give up; I'm just stating, "What if you want to fly?" Is it possible? Maybe in the future, we'll have the infrastructure to make it possible, and all you have to do is set up your mind and body in such a manner that you can use it to its full potential. Simply put your 100% in everything you do so that you are not disappointed in the end. You won and you gave everything you had!
Finally, it all comes down to knowing how to get out of the expectations vs. reality quagmire. Being aware of what you want is a good way to start. It's also a smart idea to be aware of what you should expect.
