Coal refuse facility beside Marsh Fork elementary off Coal River Road in Naoma. Marsh fork closed after activism ensued. Deregulation allows refuse to be dumped into the river, still polluting the water that goes downstream into the communities of people who often depend on coal and these facilities for work. For brunch, I made a cheese omelet, oven-baked bacon, what hash browns we had left, and berry clafoutis. Silas has worked on his flash cards a little bit and kept me company while I cleaned a bit, of course. He was getting really upset a while ago, so I rubbed a bit of baby Orajel on his teeth and played with him then rocked him until he fell asleep when he finally was so tired out from playing. Maybe he’ll nap through this first lesson, or at least feel better once he wakes up. :) Whoever’s reading this, enjoy your week!

Day 222: Deer Burgers!!! Saturday, May 14, 2016 Today we took Silas to the state farmer’s market and got some lavender and fruits and vegetables and bacon and sweet peas. Theres a German bakery there called #Annelore's that’s there only on weekends and they have these awesome vegetable phyllo strudel pastries but they sell so fast so you have to be there within the first few hours after it opens. Anyway, there’s Silas at the herb place where we found the lavender and patchouli. We were having trouble getting him to look at the camera. Before Brett went to work, he helped me cook the deer burgers. I pretty much followed this recipe http://www.babaganosh.org/venison-burgers/ (except we made our own breadcrumbs), and they came out tasty. Friday, May 13th, 2016

It’s Friday the 13th and tomorrow we have family plans, so in case I don’t get to edit the camera photos and update the site then, here is cell phone photo we took this morning together. Silas had been playing with the little shapes and the container they’re meant to fit in. When we do selfies, I try to make faces so he’ll smile–sometimes it works and other times, no such luck. 😄

In terms of anything new going on development-wise, Silas is able to roll over and over and over again from his stomach to his back to his stomach. He’s not quite crawling everywhere properly, but he is able to shimmy around better until he finds something to grab onto and pull himself toward. We were out for a bit and he just kept screaming at the top of his lungs, not in a sad way, he was actually excited and happy it seemed. One lady asked if he’d like to be in the fifth Jurassic Park movie because he sounded like a pterodactyl.
