Listen All Systems Red is so so funny from Gurathins perspective imagine you grew up with Space Socialism and was hired to go help some pal with science but you weren't allowed to go unless you rented AmaTeslas Torment Nexus Alexa Dot and then when you get there you find out a whole continent of people got annihilated by their Tourment Nexus rentals so you take a moment to check yours quickly and find out it already had disengaged its Don't Kill People box, the only thing you've ever been told prevented them from mass homiciding their clients, something that LITERALLY just happened to people you knew a day ago, and when you say to your fellow socialist doctors HEY I think our Tourment Nexus is fucked up and it's files said it killed dozens of people barely a year ago and we should probably get the hell away from it the same doctors are like look at what you're saying. You're hurting the Tourment Nexus' feelings. The Tourment Nexus is just a little construct who likes Netflix Gurathin stop antagonizing it on the plane ride.
#murderbot#and he was correct for this!!#if my colleagues blew me off like that I'd end up on the news

I think Quark and Garak should start a podcast. Cannot stress enough that I do not mean Armin Shimerman and Andrew Robinson when I say this. Quark and Garak.

It's 4 in the morning but I'm thinking about the little guys from Pikmin for some reason. Probably because I keep unearthing weird plastic trash in my new yard.
I think it's really fascinating how Nintendo made this guy Olimar as a kind of critique/exploration of capitalism and conformity - a middle aged guy with a wife and kids and a white picket fence who loves his family but is still dissatisfied with how things are and gets gradually obsessed with money. On the uncharted planet he is afraid of dying and misses his family, but he also genuinely has fun and gets to indulge in his hobbies for once.
Then Nintendo decides to make a two player mode and they need another guy, so here is Louie who is a weirdo and doesn't even try to conform. Louie lives with a single guardian who is not his parent, has no wife or kids, and is mostly fine with being stranded on the uncharted planet because it means he gets to do his hobbies and wander around even more than before.
It's just meant to be two very different guys approaching the same situation (stuck on a planet with funny aliens) and occasionally throwing aliens at each other in the battle mode. But there's a dedicated force of people in fandom who draw and write (actual novel length pieces) the "What If?" scenario where Olimar either never has a wife or divorces/cheats on his wife to date Louie. As adults, people see themselves in both characters - the little guy who loves life and wants to love it all the time, but hates capitalism and feels stuck, and the little guy who already does whatever he wants, alone. Who wins? Find out in battle mode!!!!
For real, I just think it's interesting and sweet that people want so badly for these imaginary salaryman characters to be happy. Like, that's all of us now. How DO we find a balance between survival and fun? As far as I remember the games don't really draw a strong conclusion besides I guess that nature is cool and brutal and that it's good to go outside and have adventures. I like the breadbug
