jaskier sleeping peacefully in the tent while geralt fights for his fucking life like three feet away is one of the funniest things. this would've done numbers in 2020-2021 witcher fandom

Okay so I know I posted earlier about possibly combining BG3 and The Witcher into a crossover fic and I may have written a thing

“And you say it fell out of the sky?”

“Yes, Witcher, like nothing we’ve ever seen! A nautiloid, I’d bet my farm on it!”

The Alderman shook with a level of anxiety that only came from genuine fear. This man truly believed he had seen a nautiloid fall from the sky. A vessel so large it would cover the entirety of Redania, and so evil its inhabitants would claim every kingdom for itself. Such sightings had long passed into legend, and the words ‘mind flayer’ were used only in stories to scare small children into eating their vegetables. Geralt had a hard time believing that such a vessel had appeared in the sky, much less fallen from it.

“And what do you expect me to do about this?” The Witcher asked, somewhat resigned but hoping for easy coin. His eyebrows creased slightly in irritation as he attempted to ignore the scratches of a quill against paper from his companion, currently seated beside him with wide eyes.

“You know what demons come from these ships, sir Witcher. They’ll kill us all, or steal our minds to add to their army of death. If any remain, they must be dealt with.”

“Mind flayers don’t exist. They’re just stories made up by charlatans to scare people into submission.”

“Please.” The alderman begged with sweat dripping from his brow, “we need to know for certain. We’ll pay you handsomely for any kind of reassurance.”

Geralt looked beside him towards the bard. Jaskier looked back with what could only be described as elation at the prospect of seeing such a rarity firsthand. The Witcher rolled his eyes and turned back to the nervous man before him.

“Fine. But I doubt a nautiloid is what we’ll find. And if we do, there won’t be anyone nearby who could’ve survived a fall from that height.”

Jaskier silently thanked any god who would listen, be it Melitele or Mystra. This was sure to be a most grand adventure.
