could you explain the post about shoelaces and presidents? it would be greatly appreciated thank you
Sure! Do you mean this post?
So, it started in a post in 2012 (or earlier, I don’t know the exact date). As the Urban Dictionary entry explains, you would say “I like your shoelaces” in public as a sort of secret code if you suspect there’s another Tumblr user there. And if there is another Tumblr user, they would reply “Thanks, I stole them from the president” to let you know they understood the message and are, in fact, a Tumblr user.
I don’t think people do this anymore, and if they ever did, it probably wasn’t a very common thing to do. Maybe they did back in 2012 when the post was recent and Tumblr wasn’t as popular as it is now.
I also don’t think there’s any deeper meaning to the phrases. “I like your shoelaces” seems like a pretty common and nice thing to say, and if it turns out the person you thought was a Tumblr user doesn’t recognise the ‘secret message’, nothing would happen. But then “Thanks, I stole them from the president” seems weird and specific enough that you would know they understood the ‘secret message’, unlike if they just replied “Thank you”.
Then other posts appeared making references to the shoelaces and president posts:

Writeblr Intro 💟
Hello everyone! This is my new intro for my writeblr~
To everyone new to my blog, I am lyuten, I am a 24 yo (extremely tired and done) university student, that has been writing for about 10 years now. I am hoping to be able to self publish my books in 2024, and most of all have a good time here with all of you 🤍
All of my wips will be exclusively here. My update schedule for my newest WIP will soon be announced.
I have a LOT of wips in mind and I get bored way too easily, but I will try to be as diligent as possible🤍
For anyone interested in reading ACOD which I will unfortunately not continue in the near future, head to my old blog intro here, where I have the links to every chapter.
My new wip that I haven't started writing yet, To Kill a God, you can find HERE , and the post containing links to every chapter here (hyperlink coming soon).
BOTH ACOD & TKaG are 18+ and contain a lot of tws, so please read the warnings thoroughly.
I will not be working on anything else until TKaG is done, but a glimpse of any future wips will be here:
(coming soon I guess)
You are all welcome to tag me in any game and ask me anything, when I have the time I will get to all of them❤️

This sounds interesting
Hazbin hate and bigotry
(This probably is rambly because it’s almost 2 in the morning and these are half asleep thoughts)
Maybe this is just a me thing- or maybe this is glaringly obvious, but it’s so strange to me that a lot of the fandoms that get the most hate are ones where non-conforming people make up a lot of the fandom.
Steven universe and Hazbin Hotel/ Helluva boss are the first things that come to mind. Women, LGBTQ+ people, and neurodivergent people are a huuuge part of the fandom. Do they do some questionable and problematic stuff sometimes? Yeah- but what fandom doesn’t?
Things like Fnaf, Star Wars, etc. that have a large male audience are rarely treated the same way. Even though they used to be considered “uncool”, you were just nerdy or a little weird if you were into them(especially if you were a dude). Now a days people generally would think you’re a dick if you’re making fun of people for liking these things.
There were way weirder cartoons on back when Steven universe was airing. There are weirder things on now- the boys, Rick and Morty, both shows I do enjoy, but If their audience didn’t have a large amount of members that were/are cis men- they’d also either be ‘weird’ or at the very least not as well liked.
Even shows that are popular- think shows enjoyed mostly by women. Twilight, the vampire diaries- they’re generally considered cringy by people who don’t enjoy them. And men will make fun of women for enjoying it- this is less obvious than my previous examples because a lot of women who are considered “normal” like these shows. That doesn’t stop them from getting made fun of for liking them, or judged- mostly by men. A lot of the hate I see for something like twilight outside of men just calling it dumb is actually well structured analysis of the books and movies, not just bullying.
I don’t think I’ve seen many shows that can get away with marketing to young adults who aren’t men. They are either blasted on the internet like the people who like them are some kind of cringy freaks (Steven universe, Hazbin hotel, etc), or they fade into obscurity or get canceled (inside job, tuca and birdie).
If something is weird- it has to be for men, or it’s suddenly a crime to enjoy it.
P.S.
This is also seen inside fandoms that have become more socially acceptable. When people are nerdy in ways that aren’t necessarily ‘cool’ or generally accepted they are often bullied by not just other people, but people in the fandom. Honestly even when more diverse people get INTO fandoms some fans go crazy. “Omg girls and gay people like Star Wars?! They’re ruining the movies!” By simply existing or posting silly little fan art videos on TikTok because they’re enjoying their media and not just letting their eyes glaze over while they watch a movie.
P.P.S.
This is of course not to say these shows or some of their creators don’t have flaws- obviously they do. However people often magnify these flaws in order to have a ‘non-bigoted’ way to make fun of people who don’t fit into their world view.
You’re not a good person if you bully neurodivergent teenagers off the internet because they like something you don’t. Do some self reflection. You can not like something and just choose not to engage with it.
P.P.P.S
The leopards will also eat your face, btw. (For those of this who it applies to. You know who you are.)

It's been a minute and for once, it's not just because I was swiming in the dumpster after being down in a trash bin ☺
No, this time I was gone because I wanted to do something more with my writing and get it seen by more people. While Tumblr has helped my self-esteem (somewhat), it's obviously harder to be seen on here.
Then, it was like the universe heard me and it dropped this post to me.
So after some convincing myself to try, I attempted learning html and......... It was actually pretty fun.
All things considered, I'm no tech person, I dislike math, and cannot stand things that are too technical; but their resources broke it down in a way I could understand and I built my first website from the ground up 🕺
So, if your curious about what it looks like, you can check it out here!
And maybe don't look at it on mobile 😅
Also, obviously, I'm still new to codding so the site looks as basic as basic can be. I'm also waiting to learn javascript, so there's nothing too advanced on there either.
Regardless, I'm extremely proud of myself for sticking with this and trying it out. Physically, I haven't been so well so this is a good distraction while I get better.
But, let me tell you what you can expect to see!
More info about my stories (like how they came to be)
Personal goals for my stories
Excerpts of what I've written
Self-made covers
Character concepts
Funny tidbits about the development of my stories
I'm not finished with everything I wanna do, and some things I'll have to learn how to make, but I eventually plan to have more pages including:
An about me page
Pages for my ideas that are either dead, half-made, or ideas that are nothing more than that.
Some of my fanfictions
A hobbies and interests page
And pages for my 250k word collection of short stories: Quiet Girl
I'm excited for everything I have planned, so if you like what you see here, stop by my page and see if you like anything else!
That's all from me, thanks for reading and I hope things are okay now and they stay okay with you 🍂

write for yourself. put your fantasies on paper. no one knows what you are writing. no one knows what's in your head. no one is going to write it for you. if you don't write down your ideas they will disappear. if you are too scared to write your thoughts then don't write, try something different. if writing is the only way, get to writing. no one else's opinion matters. no one else's opinion will ever matter

"homosexuality is unnatural! there's only two genders! it's a sin-"
I'm sorry, have you seen NATURE???
and there's so many more species than this that exhibit homosexuality, varying genders, etc. SO! MANY!
it's very much a natural thing. it always has been. unfortunately, while homosexuality is found in many species, homophobia is only found in one
ALSO THE ARTIST IS HUMON, FIND THEM AT HUMONCOMICS.COM!! was so sure I had included that but apparently I forgot, so sorry!

How to Write Characters in Realistic Polyamorous Relationships
Earlier this week, an anonymous follower asked: Any advice for writing a REALISTIC poly relationship?
Friend, you are in luck. As a polyamorous person, I’m always looking for more stories that include good poly representation! So first, we’re going to dig into some information about what poly is and what it isn’t, go over some vocabulary, and discuss how polyamorous relationships function in the real world, and then I’ll get into some dons and don’ts for writing polyamorous relationships. Read on under the cut!

Thank you so muchhhhh!!!
Can you make a step-by-step shading tutorial? It would be REALLY helpful.
Of course!! This will be a longer post, with a blend of text and images, so buckle in.
Shading can be difficult, so I mentally break it down from step to step. There are a few things to remember, which I'll state below.
There is also the medium that you're using to keep in mind of. Dry mediums (graphite, charcoal, pens, etc) work best with some shading techniques while wet mediums (watercolor, oil, markers, pastels, etc) are best with others. Digital is unique and honestly depends on the person and their preferences. <- keep in mind this overall point is dependent on the artist and some people like to use wet medium shading techniques for dry mediums (or vice versa).
All the works I have posted now have been with graphite or digital. At the moment I'm struggling with my digital style, so we will focus on graphite instead.
Before I even begin to explain my steps, there are some stylistic shading preferences to go over.
I'm a huge fan of hatching and cross-hatching, but they're not the only ways to shade in dry mediums or with ink. Above are two different images showing different ways to shade, one on a sphere and one as a gradient value scale.
I know many people might get annoyed by it, but I find making 5-value scales extremely helpful. It shows you which values you struggle with and could potentially practice with more. I always struggle with going dark enough (or hitting the 5th value) and it can be seen in my value scales before I practiced going darker.
////
Step-by-Step
Reference: Sebastian Stan behind the scenes in 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'
---
Step 1: Sketch. Establish forms & features. Lines are loose and angular, with minimal curved lines.
Step 2: Hatch in mid-tones lightly & loosely. (Sorry for blurry photo)
Step 3: Hatch in more detail in denser parts of the face & light areas' shading.
Step 4: Hatch in gradual curves to the face & block in clothing's shadows and darkest points. (Both photos)
Step 5: Finish hatching overall, add/adjust shading and lines around small or delicate features, remove hatching where unneeded
^ isn't the final product, i probably will take a kneaded eraser to it and adjust further. it also doesn't 100% match the reference due to stylistic choices & lack of some skill.
////
Well, that's as much as I can think to include that is my process or is necessary for shading in my eyes. Let me know if you'd like me to explain a step in more detail, or if something didn't make sense. Hope this helped!
