You know the Payneland fic trope that’s like

Edwin: (Overthinking) I can not believe I somehow emotionally manipulated Charles into being in love with me. How could I mess with his feelings like this? What if he does not even like me? What if he just likes kissing? No, surely he would not do that to me? Surely? Oh no! What if he was cursed? Or doused with a love spell? None of this has been real. How could I be so naive? I have to fix this.

Charles: (The happiest he’s ever been) Wow, I love my boyfriend, Edwin!

The switched equivalent of that is

Charles: (Spiraling) I am going to ruin Edwin like my father ruined my mom. It’s already starting. I am so easily jealous, like with that cat twat, Monty, and that guy I dragged him away from the other day. That was a client! He was probably just being friendly with Edwin. I don’t know how Edwin could ever forgive me for being unable to control myself.

Edwin: (So into jealous Charles he can’t see straight) I think I hauve Consumption.

a homecoming of the soul

Charles sort of dissolves into the energy, lets it take over his body until he's jumping and screaming along with no thought going through his head. Sweat is collecting on his skin and his voice'll be gone in the morning, but he doesn't care. It's all worth it.

They're a couple of songs into the set when Charles spots him.

He's standing some feet in front of them, closer to the stage, and he's got to have the fittest backside Charles has ever seen. Tight leather jeans emphasise the curve of his thighs and arse. He's wearing a jean jacket with the arms ripped off, spikes on the shoulders and paint on the back. Tattoos wrap around his bare forearms and biceps, disappearing under the fringy hem of the jacket. Multiple piercings on both ears glint every now and then under the quick changing light show.

It's like someone plucked his type right out of Charles' mind and then dumped him in the middle of the crowd.

When Crystal drags Charles to a gig of her favourite band, he spots about the fittest bloke he's ever seen. He's in for a bit of a surprise, though, when the handsome stranger turns out to be his long lost childhood best friend.

In the middle of the attic, floating a couple inches off the floor, was a vaguely humanoid assemblage of spectral energy. It had the right number of limbs, connected by a blob that could have been a torso, topped by something shaped more like a light bulb than a head and neck. The whole assemblage glowed faintly, and the wailing seemed to be emanating from it, unbearably loud in the cramped space.

My first piece for @chaoticbooklesbian's fic, The Case of the Faceless Ghosts, done for @deadbangdetectives. This little scene is from chapter one, which is available to read RIGHT NOW AS WE SPEAK, so go read it!! We're both so excited to share it with you!
