Spoiler warning for my commentary
Tumblr media
Digital sketch of Isha from Arcane, referenced from a scene in season 2 episode 6.
I cried looking for this frame and then cried staring at the frame. It was (in hindsight) very dramatic and hilarious (me crying and drawing and crying lmao not the scene). anyway, this show is ruining my life. Can’t wait for the last few episodes to drop!

I got the thought it in my head to draw something that I find scary or difficult every day. The scariest part is also that I’m going to post the ugly things for accountability and to also not be so so scared to post things, ugly or not. So, day 1 was yesterday. Hooray?
Also, I joined Bluesky - I know it won’t last, but it feels like it’s full of mostly artists, which…is a real morale booster. I’m there under tragedybadger if anyone else is over there. :)

The last two weeks have been a lot for work reasons, but things are slowing down, and I am going to be back on my read Asunder train for another shift. In the meantime, just some random doodles while I try to land on a style that would work for things that need faster drawings.

Karys and Ferain from Asunder by Kerstin Hall. Quote from the book, image inspired by the text and by @asunder2024's fix-it fic. It was the balm my soul needed after finishing the book. You too can read it and be comforted at the following link:
(stuck in the) sunshine riptide @ ao3
I...think my soul is going to vibrate out of my soul as I wait for the sequel to this book. I don't know if I'm going to make it.
Please Tor Publishing. Please. Sign and publish the sequel before I combust. PLEASE.

Haeki Maas from Asunder by Kerstin Hall, 5 minute color sketch
Does anyone happen to know/remember what color her eyes were when they aren't all hallowfired up? And which side her scar is on?

I haven’t figured out what I think Haeki looks like yet but had this like - one minute doodle that i proceeded to have too much fun with making a bunch of stupid expressions. These are a handful that I figured look normal enough to post, lmao. (She’s always huffing or scowling or mumbling and I have to admit, I love me a good grumpy character - and this book has two in the main party!)
I kind of feel like I need to find and re-read the descriptions of her before trying to paint her for real, because for some reason I initially thought that her hair was curly - but going back to the first description, it doesn’t say that - just says her hair got longer. Hmmm. More research needed.

Found a few more interesting scraps, as well as some portraits done for others. I think, from the top left, Lady Maria for a friend that loves her, a portrait for someone on reddit, a scrapped joke painting I was making for friends in Destiny 2, and one tiny panel from a scrapped (there's a pattern here...) comic I was considering based on a cyberpunk campaign from a few years ago (blackwater belongs to my DM, etc etc).

POV: The price of greatness, featuring Winola from Asunder by Kerstin Hall.
aka a shitpost about being an exceptionally interesting pigeon around someone doing science.
I was working on something else that I ended up scrapping, and wanted something fast and fun to boost my mood, lmao.

Portrait study, referencing an actor photo (Daryl McCormack)
It's been a hot minute since I've done any real-people portrait practice, especially since I'm learning a different work flow. I feel pretty rusty, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. :)

Karys and Ferain from Asunder by Kerstin Hall, based on Klimt's The Kiss. First: Original colors, Second: Experiment with gradient mapping.
Post-work coffee and some doodling while watching tv - I'm not sure if this is exactly what I wanted it to look like - I like it but may take another run at it at some point in the future, restarting with the sketch phase. I think I had just a little too much fun making all the little marks, lmao.

Rough color sketch under the cut for Ferain and Karys from Asunder, riffing on Klimt's The Kiss. I know I have a problem. But I love The Kiss, and I wanted to take a stab at it for these two. 🥺 I'm excited to finish it when I get time.

Oh god, wait - does this mean there are puppy versions of these creatures??? Does their seating bowl...grow in like horns???
Tumblr media
Also realized the headlessness makes the puppies look...like frozen turkeys in full sploot, lmao.

Trying very hard to figure out what the hounds look like in Asunder.
I had assumed they would look like Irish Wolfhounds, but then there was a description of them being headless AND they - multiply? reproduce? without any kind of human intervention? And the bowl thing is - I mean, is it like a horn that comes out of their back?
So anyway, I'm choosing to believe there's a tiny little corgi shaped hound in the city somewhere that can't actually carry anyone in its tiny little bowl seat thing but everyone loves anyway, right?

Environment studies also found in scraps, because I'm bad at backgrounds and very occasionally try to get some practice in. :')

It always shocks me how many random scraps I have saved in random places, and they're all titled things like akjshdfkajshd.png. Letting these guys see the light of day, even if they never turn into anything more.
