In the Jens Hansen workshop: 9.8 grams of alluvial gold dust, weighed up against the Jens Hansen Movie Ring, which is usually around 12 grams. 

This New Zealand river gold will likely become a new precious Ring for a lucky person…

I manage to hold it together for about my first ten seconds at Jens Hansen. Then my excitement bubbles over and I start telling the shop assistant how thrilled I am to be here and how I’m making a tour of Middle Earth (and yeah…you’ve heard this all before so feel free to fill in the gaps…)

How lovely that she is as excited as me! Her name is Tanya and she’s only been working here six months and she’s really enthused about the whole thing. She starts getting the rings out of their cases and even lets me try them on. I like the silver ring best (it’s Tanya’s favourite too) and it fits PERFECTLY!

 I’m so tempted to buy it but exquisite jewellery just isn’t essential for my travelling lifestyle at the moment (and do I need to be any more of a walking cliché anyway?) so I take it off and give it back just before I fall completely in love with it. Tanya writes down the size and price for me just in case I change my mind later… Yes, I think we all know I’m doomed!

It’s the middle of winter in Middle Earth New Zealand - which must mean it’s the perfect time to get cosy for a Fellowship rewatch!

Paul and Lily got married a few weeks ago and Paul choose this very special ring for his wedding band! 

This is the same design we crafted here in the studio and was worn by actor Hugo Wearing - the ring of Vilya, ring of Elrond, for the Lord of the Rings film Trilogy.

In the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies the original gold and sapphire version of this ring can be seen in:

        The Fellowship of the Ring - early on when the elves are holding up the 3 elven rings

        The Return of the King - on Hugo Weaving’s hand near the end before he boards the ship

        The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies - on Hugo’s hand during/after fight with the ring wraiths

For copyright reasons we are unable to sell replicas of this ring under the name Vilya. Therefore this is a reproduction of the original ring designed and made for actor Hugo Weaving by Thorkild Hansen.
