tutorial: how to get parts of a black and white picture colored.

requested by silence-can-be-so-loud . (under the read more)

i will be using Photoshop cs4 & this picture.

so first, open your picture. (ctrl+N)

sharpen the image if needed and click layer -> new adjustment layer -> black & white.

now click on ok.

now if it's right, you will see your picture in black and white and this in your layer section:

you can see that the layer mask is selected. keep it selected and select the eraser tool in the tool section on the left.:

now set it to 26 px and 60 % hardness.

now erase the parts you want to be colored. like this:

when you're done, flatten the image and save it to your computer! :)

Sorry should have made myself clear. I meant say for example you have your gif of Selena Gomez and then she's wearing a red dress or something but the whole gif is black and white, is there a way of making her dress stand out and not be black and white along with the rest of the gif? Doesn't have to be a psd but a general question. (:

Hay great blog. You're are awesome for helping people and taking requests. I don't have a particular person that I want a psd of but a colouring really for gifs. I can never get it to be the right kind of black & white, not too dark and just enough vibrance in it. Can ya help please?
