Umbra Vitae - Shadow Of Life

Debut album, released in 2020. Band features Jacob Bannon on vocals (Converge, Wear Your Wounds), Mike McKenzie on guitars / vocals (The Red Chord, Wear Your Wounds, Stomach Earth), Sean Martin on guitar / vocals (Wear Your Wounds, Twitching Tongues), Greg Weeks on bass (The Red Chord), Jon Rice on drums (ex-Job for a Cowboy, Uncle Acid). Recorded and Mixed by Kurt Ballou at GodCity. The band was formed during rehearsals for Wear Your Wounds. The intro track reminds me of Slayer. Real heavy death metal throughout the album. Great debut from some legends in the genre’s.

Seventh studio album, released in 2020. This is the first album without founding members Masahiro Tobita (guitar) and Dairoku Seki (drums). It’s another nearly flawless album from Envy.

Bazan, David - Blanco

Third studio album, released in 2016. This album was kind of surprise when it came out and features reworked versions of songs from his Bazan Monthly 7″ series. Another fabulous album from one of my favorite songwriters.

Bazan, David - Sparkling Water 7“

2018 single from David Bazan features a live version of a Sparkling Water, that had previously only been released as a part of his monthly song series. This version had been recorded before the release of Care, but wasn’t released on vinyl until after Care came out. Etched b-side.

OWEN - The Avalanche

Tenth studio album, released in 2020. There’s really nothing I can gush about Mike Kinsella that I haven’t already said on previous posts. He’s easily one of my favorite songwriters and has been for almost half of my life. This album is really no different, another masterful release. As with The King Of Why’s, this album was also produced by S. Carey.

Pink Spiders, The - Hot Pink

First studio album, released in 2005. 60′s bugglegum pop. I first saw them in 2005 at a little coffee shop named Old City Java in Knoxville. The next time I saw them was on Warped Tour after they had signed to Geffen Records. It’s a great album and I’m glad to finally own it. I was a extremely disappointed with Spat! Records for sending this with no padding in a paper envelope, as that caused all four corners of the jacket to be damaged. First and last record I’ll order directly from them.

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

Fifth album, released in 2019. Absolutely stellar album, his best from start to finish. It’s been a real treat to watch him grow musically and personally since Goblin. I say Goblin because that’s when he blew up. I wish I hadn’t slept on buying the deluxe version of this album. Usually I post a video of a song from the album, mainly studio versions but for this album I’m going to post his performance from the Grammy’s because it was out of this fucking world.

Yorke, Thom - Anima

Third (but really fourth) solo album, released in 2019. I had bought this online on black vinyl and like 2 days after it arrived I happened to find a perfect copy of the orange at a local record store. Yet, another beautiful album from the Radiohead frontman. Packaging could be better. I hate jackets that open from the top instead of the side. There’s a longform music video directed by PTA on Netflix that has three of the songs from the album in it. It’s beautifully well done as well. Part of that is posted below
