Hi! Do you think you'll ever share the rig for Jack? (I'm learning 3D in school and he seems like a really fun character to animate. You are also doing a fantastic job! I can't imagine rigging my own character. It seems so complicated.)

One day maybe when I finish him 100% I might share his rig but he has so many faults and extremely painful to use (especially the facial rig, that is horrible) right now. He's just too faulty for me to share yet, especially since I am always insecure and anxious about my work and I know that what I make is never perfect and drives me crazy :( But I have really been thinking about putting him out there once I'll finish him! :)

Oh and about the rigging part, I use blender and its rigify addon which is extremely helpful! Plus there's tons of help online and blender users are all amazing! I'm sure you could make your own character if you tried! Blender community is honestly amazing and there isn't a problem out there that hasn't been solved yet on a forum out there somewhere! :)

Are you going to make a short movie?

Aah would love to one day!! Right now I have tons of work and whenever I could have the time to work on something that big, it never lasts for long enough for me to actually even start thinking about anything :( I think it would take like a year to make something that is 5 minutes long in total :'))

I tried so hard to loop the whole thing and (failed so haaardd🎵🎶 ) managed to screw up even the walk cycle 🙃

I'm sorry guys I didn't have the time to make anything slightly more complicated than a walkcycle. Lately I only have time to watch some animation related tutorials while working and not much else. I added the strings to the hood finally! But that is all I had the energy for:(

Guys I seriously can't believe how can I be such a big moron :') I managed cut off the first 1-2 sec of the "How Bad Can I Be" video while rendering motion blur on it in After Effects :'))) Kill me.

Something felt strange but I just noticed it. Anyway I'll post the full version under the cut if you are interested, sorry for being an idiot. This one doesn't have motion blur (so you can pause it at frames and laugh at his stupid expressions) and composition so it's darker and duller a bit.

oh and I'M DYING AT THE TAGS AND COMMENTS YOU GUYS ABSOLUTELY MADE MY DAY I had no idea this video would had this effect eheheh

uuu and I have a question!! I am a bit tired for ideas now and I have been thinking of what to make next, but I can't think of anything :( do you have any small idea or any small clip or anything that you'd like to see Jack doing and doesn't require lots of props or other characters? :) I can't promise anything, but maybe you could give me ideas and I could try and make a little animation with it sometimes if you'd like that :) (I really don't promise anything and so sorry in advance if I won't end up making anything in the end or it would take long)

What is this project? How long have you been working on it?

Hi! :))

This project is nothing just a personal passion/love/stress relieve project :) I watched ROTG when I was 18 and before big choices of my life and still had no idea what to do with myself. I was going to become either a translator or a librarian and even though I have no problem with either, these professions were just not what I wanted to do deep down.

I remember I took my mom to cinema and I totally wanted to watch Paranorman because that was playing as well and had little to no interest in rotg (I didn't even know what it was because it was barely advertised in my country and I'm still angry about it). But my mom wanted to watch ROTG instead so we watched it and when it was over I knew I wanted to do this!

Like anything related to 3d and animation, I wanted to work on amazing and beautiful movies like ROTG. So basically I can thank my past 8 years to that movie and the fact that I found what I love and what I wanted to do just in time.

I started making my Jack model as a little practice and now that I am done with the model (sort of), I am practicing animation with it, because I am really quirky when it comes to 3d animation :'))

I've been working on it for, I think, 6 months now :) Always have tons of work to do and have very little freetime so that's why it took me half a year to finish one single model ehh :(

Anyways, I'm sorry for the DAMN long answer and thank you for the ask so much!! :))

This is strongly wip, but who else shares my love towards Jack's og clothes?? I love the hoodie with all my heart but I remember when I first watched rotg in the cinemas was the first time I ever payed attention to clothing in an animated movie! They moved and looked so amazing with the frosty textures and everything as he emerges from the water. (I will never get over how beautiful EVERYTHING in this movie)

There's no textures or materials on them only base coloring yet. That is what I am going to work on next time I think or sometime in the future when I'll finally have a little more freetime again. Sorry if I'll be even more absent again, I am sort of buried under work now and I don't even know when will the crunch times end this time :(

Ever since I had his rig I've been wanting to try and animate him flying so much, but it is just so hard. This is like my 100th try, like literally :'|

But it's finally here! Jack just flying and chilling and enjoying himself because he deserves it, he's a good kid

(Guys I know I keep saying this but I love you so much and thank you for the incredible suport!! 😭❤ You always make me want to do more and more, it's so great to be a part of this fandom)

Ps.: sorry for the glowing hair, I had to use realtime render because the raytraced one would have taken much longer :(

(I'm so sorry I haven't been active but right after my second job ended I got pretty sick - my tonsils decided they wanted to murder me t-t I feel better now, I can swallow my own saliva again and to celebrate it, I made a dark version of Jack because my brain is shut down and this was the only idea that came to my mind. I'll try to be more active soon and respond and everything and so extremely sorry again!! ❤😭)

(sorry for the wanky snowflake animation, I managed to render out the wrong layer but it took 4 hours and I don't have time to re-render everything so it had to stay :'(( so sorry!) I FIXED THE SNOWFLAKE!

I have also reworked the hoodie a little. I fixed up the model a little and also tried to repaint the textures but I gave up after some times. Jack's original hoodie is extremely perfectly detailed and I don't think I'd be able to reproduce that so I ended up trying to make it just frosty instead. It is still wip but it is like this now:

Plus I am reworking the eyes as well, but the current snowflake in his eyes is just a placeholder now that I'll replace in the future because it is a bit cartoony now hehe:

And I'm also sorry for the lack of interactions and posts overall, this second job is of course almost as time consuming as the previous one :( The "It'll be easier and shorter" part was a lie of course :'(((

I haven't disappeared again, I was just trying to make the old hair's physics work for days but the topology of the hair was so extremely messy that it couldn't be used properly and I also don't properly know the simulation settings of blender so I don't think I would have ever been able to make it work properly.

I tried to tweak it and replace the hair simulation with spring bones rigged to a lattice deformer that drove the hair but it looked like jello no matter how I tweaked the bones so I ended up deleting ALL of the hair particles and doing the whole hair completely all over again (kill me t-t)

This time I placed all the particles on his head one by one and groomed every single one of them in place - I can't use my right hand becuse my fingers and wrist got sore BUT the hair can be simulated now!!

The dynamics and groomings are still work in progress but I think we are heading towards a better direction :) the static hair was driving me crazy especially since my job is to make clothes and hairs move xD

(And I also replaced his eyes with procedural materials instead of the hand painted ones, but they are wip as well)

I'm gonna have another second job start soon this weekend but I got promised that it won't be as long and difficult as the previous one so I don't think I'll have to take a break from Jack cometely! :)

I love that scene so much where he's playing with the dreamsand and he's so happy about it, Jack is just too pure

I have been thinking about setting up his hair for simulation because it is always so strange to see it so stiff, but blenders physics is something I still don't understand to this day.

I think that is going to be my main project now, apart from learning 3d animation
