So a lot of people have said they want bird/aregetting parrots after seeing my birds. Mostly on tumblr but a few here and a lot of people I meet who see my sleeve. I always try and stress how important their diet is because birds are not meant to live on seeds along. This is what my birds get roughly every day, it is a bit more fruit heavy but that's just cause I haven't picked up more veggies yet. Birds (some small parrotkeet are excluded) NEED a varied diet to live a long and healthy life! Sure you mums bird lived for ten years on seeds alone but it probably had a horrid digestive system and was so bored of its life. Could you imagine eating the same shit everyday? That bird is surviving but not THRIVING. It can be hard to feed them diets like this. It can be expensive, they may not want to eat it, it can get smelly as t the end of the day before you clean their bowls but that's the responsibility you decided to take on when you said you want to have a bird in your life! Currently my boys only eat orange vegetables if they are cut up into small, small pieces or mashed. And sure it can be annoying to sit there and cut then into little pieces but if that ensures they are getting a whole diet then I will do it!!! (p.s they also get a pellet bowl and occasionally seeds without a higher fat content. I also always ensure they have branches they can chew, stretch their toes over and forage. Water is changed twice a day and toys are regularly added/swapped in) Just remember that before you decide you want any bird or animal in GENERAL! 😊 I am always happy to talk as well about anything animals! Also I am always learning as well!! I can admit that everyone starts somewhere and if you didn't know this and realise that maybe you aren't giving them the best diet or may know someone who isn't never attack them about it. Making snarly comments about someone's personal things/animals/life will get you no where except the person disliking or having hatred towards you. Educate them, knowledge is key!
