It occurs to me that maybe not everyone in this fandom knows about the two official short stories from the League of Seven universe that you can read online for free:

Alternatively, these stories would be a great place for a non-fan to start, because they’re like a little taste-test of whether you like the world and writing style, without spoiling anything that happens in the actual trilogy.

i love when a character has something terrible happen to them and as a result they see themself as, essentially if not literally, a ghost. and so that means they only can (and have to) do what ghosts do, ie get revenge and then cease to exist. easy as that. but then halfway through this ghost vengeance they realize hey actually i might still be a human person. with human needs. that’s incredibly inconvenient, considering how much i’ve invested in this whole ghost thing

Archie: Mary Shelley was a Septemberist. She wrote Frankenstein as a cautionary tale against experimenting with lektricity and trying to mess with forces beyond human control.

Fergus: Yeah, I don’t think it had the intended effect on its target audience exactly… Victor Frankenstein was my idol growing up.

Hachi: Fergus, he gets everyone he loves killed and then dies himself.

Archie: Not to mention he abandons his creature and ruins his life too…

Fergus: Aye, but I wouldnae do that. I’d do it all right.

Hachi: [eyeroll] This attitude is why stuff like that happens in the first place.

there really are few emotions i find more compelling in a story than "you should be afraid of me. please don't be afraid of me"

i think the world would be a lot more interesting and worth living in if it spontaneously generated a gigantic monster every now and then. i mean really gigantic, like multiple stories tall. skyscraper sized
